The members of the "vast informal economy" would very much like to keep it that way .
"Formalising" (regulating ) them would be about as popular as forcing them to wear crash-helmets or not sitting in the bed of pick-ups, even if it is for their own good !!
Similar minor error happened recently to a friend in Ubon...resulted in immigration officer " helping" for bt 10000 !
In Burirram, however, another friend said they were more understanding and overlooked the same issue.

I rather think that the mother knew she had gone to Pattaya, kidding herself that she would be working in a restaurant. not a bar .
Personally, I prefer to respect all people actually deserving of it . Sadly. Thai in general, respect money and status. seemingly regardless of how it may have been obtained.

Always wondered why these excessively rich folk ( high ranking civil servants, politicians etc) crave even more, but have come to the conclusion that they seem to need it to "protect" themselves from those that would potentially expose them!
