  1. Not much of a night owl but am all for extending the hours and thing they should go to about 6:00 am and then people have more options to use public transportation to get home.

I am almost always in favor of less regulation when it comes to adults and business making their own choices to cater to each other.

However, I doubt any extension is going to happen because Thailand is moving more towards the west of greater regulations and reduced freedoms.

No ,I think Thailand is moving out of the Dark Ages towards a greater sense of social responsibility ,as befits it's status as an Asean leader.

  2. All bus accidents should give the owner of the bus and the driver 20 years in jail.

You can see lot of busses pass me on the highway in high speed. I know the road is slipery when its wet so I reduce my speed, but the busses continue as nothing happen. This is crazy so the driver should be punish.

You can see the coments from the driver in all bus accidents, the road was wet and slipery (its the roads fault).

The curv was very sharp (its the curvs fault). Its time to start propper training of bus and truck drivers, and punish them hard when involved in accidents.

Exactly. I'm pretty sure the road wasn't all that curvy to begin with...if you haven't been to Laos, you don't know what a curvy road is! Driving on a curvy road is easy - slow down, take the curve properly, accelerate out of the curve (but not too fast of course!) and then do it all over again when you get to the next curve. It's not that hard.

9 out of 10 locals would disagree with you....the correct way ,in Thailand ,on Thai roads ...is to accelerate into the corner then brake like buggery before using the whole of the road to corner , hoping not to meet anything bigger or more powerful doing the same from the opposite direction . !

  3. Anyone who has been here long enough knows that the numbers are WAY down in (Nana, Soi Cowboy, and Patpong), it's called simple observation. This is the only way they can make up the income.

Maybe if they learned to embrace the nightlife they could all benefit from it,for example stop charging 120 baht for beers !

The places you've mentioned are essentially go-go bar areas ...can't imagine what the eye-candy (or attitude of said) would be like at 4am !

Your beer goggles must be a lot more effective than mine ! Your stamina also !

  4. In Chiang Mai wwe have a large influx of tourist for Songkram but they will be gone next week, lots of chinese and farangs

Most will be gone, but I've met quite a few Chinese tourists who are in large groups that are here for a month. And they will definitely be back. All the ones that I met love Thailand. I even met some that want to come to start a business here. Chinese tourism to Thailand will explode over the coming years.

Thailand will quickly become China's Disneyland....and will most likely prostitute itself as such , quickly losing what it has left of it's true culture and remaining values.

  5. Kids ARE the future. Every good move starts with very small steps. I also think Toyota have taken on environmental issues seriously as a sales tool. They have reduced emissions from their vehicles substantially over the years so I would think the 'awards' may be more motivated as a PR exercise however, it is not getting much coverage other than a small write up here.

I really agree with you that kids are not only the future but every effort to help, however small is worth the effort. However, what ever is done will get the usual kicking from TV experts. Anyone have any idea how we can persuade the negative mindsets to become positive?
Another positive story to bring out the doom and gloom brigade. It seems for some every silver lining must have a cloud and that is just sad. Even more sad that it is so unThai to have this kind of attitude and the people who often have it act as though they understand Thailand the most.

As for the OP ... good job kids, good job Toyota and great job to all involved with the Stop Global Warming Project for opening they eyes of the youth to something worthwhile.

Are you guys joined at the waist ? I don't see any of your so called Doom and Gloom brigade here until you evoked them !

That should ,of course , read "invoke " !

  7. There are plenty of Thais who hate the massive death toll on the roads here. My only Thai family have been victims of drunk driving. Are they just supposed to accept it?

The vast majority seem to accept it , and many other issues, with apathy (my Thai family members included) until it directly affects them. Which is why anything positive is so slow to happen.

  8. I agree with the others My wife has shown no income for any of her three Family Visit Visas. All the finances have been mine.

The answer we've always used to the questions regarding how much money is available to you for the trip is "My husband will pay for everything" and "My husband will provide everything I need"

There's also a question "What will be the total cost to you of this visit?"

    Answer "Zero"

[May I ask if you included the original and /or certified translation copies of the marriage certificate with your application ? We are in process and I was hoping ,given that her ID and passport are in her married name (since 2010 ),that it wouldn't be necessary ?

    Any info gratefully received !

  9. Its just a bloody temple - as much as I am all in favour of maintaining historic buildings - if it comes to a battle and bloodshed over a xxxxxxx building...jeeesus...blow the damned thing up.

It is NOT worth a human life - not at all.

Worse than that. It's not about the temple. It's about a couple of square kms of scrubland.
It's not even about the scrubland...it's only about the loss of face and political leverage attached.

  10. The web site is quite amazingly well done. There are some clever people working here.

But the official rules are daunting: http://www.thelittlebigprojectthailand.com/images/file/Official-Rules-The-Little-Big-Project-R040413.pdf

Oh... so it's a publicity stunt not a program..

Would be termed a promotion by most people!

Winners must attend a Press conference ....produce daily video blogs using social media tools etc etc .....Sorry ,but it's a publicity stunt thinly disguised as a promotion .

  11. In my wife's village in Ubon, there is no shortage of labour force ...3-4 months annually they are engaged with farming , the rest of the year they are content to spend their income on improving their homes/land. And why not ? Why would they want to leave their families to labour and live on a consrtuction site for 300bt a day . They are mostly content with their lifestyle .....and the "skilled" tradesmen amongst them are in constant demand locally .

  12. good for Suvarnabhumi.

and good to see how the Chinese dominate the top 5 of the world's best airport list.

The Chinese DO NOT 'dominate the top 5 of the world's best airport list', they dominate A list compiled by such & such 'organisation'. The only thing I see the chinese dominating is the ability to flood the world with a trillions tons of garbage without being embarrassed.

Of course Chinese dominate the A list. They are very good.

Don't feel embarrassed if your hometown isn't even mentioned on the B or C list.

Ah...could this be .the witty ,sophisticated humour you mentioned in an earlier post ?

  13. I think what iritates most long term expats is the constant aggrandizement and embellishment that is the backbone of the Government.

Many things here a far less efficient than in the West and I for one accept that, however, little is done outside rhetoric and posturing to actually make things better. Thailand has to learn to accept things as they really are and stop pretending that they are better. Perhaps if they channeled some of the energy and cash asorbed by this meaningless nonesense and actually tried to genuinely improve , then there would be less discent . Because I likeThailand does not mean that I am blind to the conditions that prevail and I would dearly love for them to get their act together and bring this nation up to a standard that is commensurate with a developed nation rather than just making claims that it is so.

Completely agree.....and as for TV...grandiose ,out of context, headlines like the one attributed to this thread don't help !
