  1. I use the bus service from Suvanabhumi Airport to Hua Hin and back fairly regularly and they charge extra for more than 1 bag, I think it was 20 baht for more than 1 bag. So 325 baht to get to Hua Hin with 2 checked bags and a backpack carry on is pretty good, and it's in good condition and the drivers sofar have been pretty good. I stopped using Thai taxi's long ago for fear of my life because of theirs and most other road users dangerous driving not the cost of the ride.

Now farang is really going to complain.

No other land transport charge extra for baggage.

Not train, not bus, not car rental; why on earth Thai taxi going to charge for baggage is beyond my logic.

Perhaps the happy Thai people's logic is a world different from mine.

  2. Well this is all fine and dandy there MR> Educator.

    But:

    1. 60% of all Thais do not know the driving laws.

    2. 75% of all thais do not care about the laws.

    3. Police in the rural districts do not care about the driving laws.

    4. 65% of the police in the rural arears do not obey the laws themselves.

    5. So how will you enforce these laws? - which are the same as international laws.

Your daft percentages are wildly inaccurate

I agree, they should all be 100%

  3. As my nickname says, I travel a lot.

Have been to almost 100 countries.

By far, is Thailand the worst offender in this regards.

Never any other place (maybe some city here and there), is the total disregard for the traffic regulations so universal, as it is in Thailand.

Never been to Vietnam then ?

He did actually say (maybe some city here and there), but i agree Vietnam is worse than Thailand, at least the parts I have been
  4. ezzra states we need a better trained and honest police farce forcefacepalm.gif indeed correct.clap2.gif

However a properly defined learner driver course and educated drivers in all vehicles with a strong emphasis concerning both the operators and drivers of P.S.V. along with H.G.V.vehicles might well go a long way to actually improving the standard of the way that the average Thai aims his or her vehicle.

Interesting to note that in the majority of cases of foreign managed logistic operators both vehicle drivers and maintenance is much higher than the home grown bred of the same beast. A lot to be said for driver and mate and engineers education and ongoing training schemes operated by foreign managed entities and also a few Thai owned entities too..

Reckon to date I have been lucky. 10 Years of motorcycle (Kawasaki 400C.C.) riding and 13 years of car and pick up driving plus the family toy (150cc Honda Click) and no serious mishaps.

Lot to be said for those old ''blues and two's'' courses.

The criteria for passing Thai driving test is about to be raised. Effective June 4th, so some positive news.

A lot of people out there without a licence unfortunately so raised criteria won't do much to solve that issue. The police need to get them and the rust buckets and smoke blowers off the road and enforce the law then they might have a shot at it

  5. Just having some kind of reshuffle to become a ministry is not really major reform. Changing the structure is one thing but changing the mindset of the police actually do the job they are paid for is another thing altogether. However, it is positive they are talking about reform although the cynic in me suggests this proposal has come out before something else is forced upon them. We should wait & see the exact nature of the proposal.

But aren't the police partly funded by the fines they collect?

If so, stopping that practice, issuing receipts for fines and tracking where the money goes might help.

Friend of mine was stopped in Hua Hin today to check the car rego. It was the old rego but he had not put the new one on the screen. When he pulled it out and put it on the policeman said he must pay 300 baht but he didn't have any money on him. He asked him to give him a ticket but he refused and wouldn't let him leave until his wife brought the money. Reforms, doubt it, it's ingrained and I think it will take generations to clean it up and even then I think it's wishful thinking

  6. My tot wi fi was working great for about 18 months until about 2 weeks ago went bad called tot to complain and they sent out engineers, same guy that fitted it. He did a few tests and agreed it was rubbish and said they would go and check equipment down the road. Never seen again, getting really pissed now. Local speed test was showing 6-7 mb down and 0.4 up but that was using a server in Bangkok as soon as I use one outside Thailand it drops to 1-2 mb down and 0.4 mb or less up. Ok for email but as soon as you try video, forget it. A 30 second video clip took over 40 minutes. University near me had their own fibre optic cable run in, anyone know how much that cost? Incidentally i am 5 k's by road from tower perhaps 2-3 as the crow fly's. I hope they can sort it out but they don't seem interested unfortunately no other provider here

  7. Do you love Thailand? Pol Lt Gen Pharnu said he asked the complaining operators. I told them that if you love our country, you must understand that these types of tourists are destroying our country by stealing jobs from Thais.

Thai people can't do this in other countries. Why would we let people from other countries do this to us? We have been kind to these people for so long. Now it's time to be stricter about the law."

I see and feel your kindness everyday, how could I have been so blind. Thank you for showing me the light, I didn't realise that by bringing my entire salary into this country and using it all to support my Thai wife and daughter and Thailand without any chance of ownership or rights in return, that I was being so thoughtless and selfish, sorry

can a Thai do the same in your country?

Don't know really as I've been here for 10 years, legally I might add and I still can't get a telephone line. My point is that officials in this country always seem to be blaming everyone but them selves for poorly managing their country. You don't see them getting too concerned about the large death toll on the roads but they are worried about cheap labourors taking jobs that they don't want themselves. I think they need to reassess what their priority's are, but if they can fix my road or at least fill in the pot holes and give me a phone line I'll be happy

  9. We bought our land about 3 years ago for 1.3mil a rai. We are 10 k's from Market village (by road) and that's fine with me. Since the Bangkok floods Hua Hin traffic has gone over the top and that is probably my biggest gripe as I need to get through it twice a day taking and picking up my daughter from school. Infrastructure is something Thailand is not too good at either. I live about 3k's from the ToT office and they won't provide me a land line for the internet. If they can sort that mess out I'll be happy but I don't see it happening any time soon. Mai Pen Rai :)
  10. The position of PM was way above her abilities and she shouldn't have been there in the first place. Her brother has basically thrown her under a bus but more the fool her for letting him do it. Hopefully the rest of the politicians will see that good governance is needed with complete transperancy, or the law will ping you. Wishful thinking maybe but would be good for the country
