  1. many thai people have come to believe that the average farang male is inherently inclined towards prostitutes and indulging in licentious behavior... :o

...since prostitution in thailand acts as just another showpiece in a rapidly blooming free-market society, many farang men erroneously believe that visiting a prostitute is acceptable, when in heir own country... society frowns upon such deviances...

...as farang men continue providing ample demand to fuel the prostitution sector of the underground economy, thai women continue to suffer from a lack of viable employment alternatives in other sectors. jobs available to most rural thai girls are limited to dishwashing in a noodle shop, hairdressing, and waitressing... :D

girls are effectively cut off from educational opportunities once they graduate from sixth or ninth grade (the end of their compulsory education).... due to the great symbolic debt owed to their parents, they are frequently tempted to abandon the dim prospects of their rural villages in search work in the cities...

many leave for the cities to work in factories or restaurants, only to find themselves in the hands of brothel owners... :D

  2. one rai produces on the average about 300 Kg (10 bags) of rice per harvest...

fertiliser cost about 40 thb per rai...

the stuff sells for between 5 & 7 thb  per kilo...

a family of ten eats about 55 bags of rice per year, so that family of ten with a 25 rai farm makes somewhere between 30,000 and 40,000 thb per year...

...sure some areas have enough water for two harvests a year... sure they can sell the rice out of town, but that incurs transportation costs...

hardly surprising then that so many farming families send their best looking daughter to work in the whore-houses of bangkok or pattaya...

Sorry Harry... I don't see your point...! :o

    totster :D

the farmers are getting screwed... whilst many others sectors a rife with corruption...

pay them a fair price for their rice... they won't be so quick to pack off their daughters to work in the sex industry... less prostitutes=less farangs to prey on them... less sexually motivated farangs=a better thailand...

  3. "They are mostly typical Isaan women, rather dark skin, quite strong and healthy and not the type to attract typical Thai men," said researcher Decha Vanichvarod when asked to characterise mia farang, the Thai wives of foreign men."

"They are not 'beautiful' according to Thai men, or among the good-looking women who normally head for jobs in the sex industry in Bangkok, Phuket or Pattaya."

a study surveyed 15,284 mia farang in 19 provinces of the Northeast, ranging in age from 20 to 52 years of age, and averaging 32. Khon Kaen, Udon Thani and Nong Khai were the top three home provinces in terms of numbers...

most of the women - 69 per cent - had an education no higher than Grade 6, 24 per cent made it to grade 9 and the remaining 7 per cent graduated from higher levels...

eighty per cent of them had been married before. many have children with thai husbands, the study found.

more than 50 per cent were from farming households and found they could not survive economically after breaking up with their husbands...

many seek jobs in the service sector, such as hotel maids, waitresses or masseurs, which they feel give them a better chance of meeting foreigners...

many meet western partners through neighbours or relatives who have married farang. the study says 63 per cent met their husbands independently in bangkok, pattaya or another big city, 35 per cent through a relative and 2 per cent on the internet...

"Before meeting their farang partners, 33 per cent of the women had worked in Bangkok for less than Bt5,000 a month; 17 per cent worked in Pattaya for a similar income; 13 per cent worked in other tourist cities for salaries around Bt7,000; 26 per cent were farmers with a Bt1,000-per-month income; and 11 per cent had already worked abroad, many in factories, for salaries in the Bt30,000 range."

"Since marrying, 72 per cent have become housewives and receive money from their husbands upon request. The women send an average of Bt8,000 a month back to their families."

"The top three home countries of the husbands are Germany, Switzerland and England (20, 14 and 12 per cent, respectively). Other husbands of the women surveyed were from Australia, the United States, New Zealand, Canada, Sweden, France, Holland, Denmark, Belgium, Scotland, Italy, Norway, Greece and Israel, and Asian nations including Japan, Malaysia and Singapore, with small numbers from Laos, Hong Kong, South Korea, Kuwait and China."

"Businessmen comprised the largest group of foreign husbands (22 per cent), with smaller numbers working as state officials, technicians, engineers, retirees, teachers and doctors. "

  5. just be careful in your selection of a partner... :o

A Thai man who masqueraded as a woman to wed a German man has failed to get the marriage annulled, and now seems saddled with his husband.

A German court dismissed the Thai's request for an annulment because same-sex marriages are not recognized in Germany, and therefore cannot be reversed.

"I don't know why they got married, whether it was love or the desire for a residence permit," said Ulrich Skwirblies, a spokesman for the court in the western town of Celle.

The 42-year-old Thai married the man in Denmark under a false name in 1994 and was later granted German residency.

  6. i have seen several recommended including the dental unit at Bumrungrad, which i didn't like so much, but the place we used was this one Suk 49 Dental Hospital and I can heartily recommend it - a fabulous place, madame palmer actually looked forward to going to the dentist. then again, we did have medical insurance which covered it, though i get the impression that their prices, though very high for thailand, are VERY competitive v the uk and us...

if you make it to pattaya :o and still need a dentist try this one........................ Smile Dental Clinic - 24/47 South Pattaya Rd. Pattaya CityTel:038-427830....... made a fine job of cleaning mine!!

  7. Crush, if I may step up to the plate for old hairy plummer - I think you'll find he was dissing farangs (quote plum regarding farangs: exploiters of young women) and wasn't dissing Thai people (quote plum regarding Thai's: these lovely thai girls)

    Carry on.

many thanks FTH... i'm on the side of the thais everytime...

  8. Just imagine for a moment what it would be like if the western prejudice about Moslems was correct - you would get suicide bombers, terrorism, stupidity, racism. Now imagine if the Moslem prejudices about the west were correct - you would get presbyterians suicide bombing mosques, catholics sniping at ayatollas, orthodox leaders declaring crusades (religious groups and activities were selected at random). Hmmm. Wonder who has the more accurate prejudices?

  9. it seems that there is no shortage of customers (exploiters of young women) for these lovely thai girls and they are kept busy almost everyday.... however, what is the timeline on these girls? how long do they/ can they stay in the business?

sooner or later, every type of business has burnout, i can't imagine this one being any different. i know most of them are working to not only support themselves but others, which can get them sidetracked, but do most of them have a long term plan?

maybe this is just my westernised way of thinking?
