  1. Well I am back from the Big Mango. They have the blank forms to fill in at the embassy and I had to show my divorce papers. Also remember to have your passport number as well as future wife's ID nuber as both of these are required on the form.

610 baht later was out the door. Went to the translation place opposite the police station (the embassy had a sketch map of how to get there). 3,700 baht later and was in taxi back to the airport. They said I should receive the translated and stamped papers by post in a week.

The area where you get the affirmation from in the embassy opens at 8:30am!!!

  2. Bumping up an old topic here i know. Going to try this guy Somchart thursday. Hope he's as good as people say he is although he can't be any worse than Joy from Patong. Don't want to do too much mouthing off on the forum but all i can say is, extremely slow, plenty of lies and excuses, very expensive and then some more lies and excuses.

I know she's had some critics on here before, maybe i should of listened to them. My advise, stay away! Seriously and joking aside, she will rip you off. Take your time to look around first. You've been warnedbah.gif

I second this about Joy - cost me a few million and still not over. Totally incompetant.

  3. Fished there yesterday and going again today.... Landed a 20lb plus Catla lost a Siamese, which where not as active as usual but where biting. Had customers on Arapiama Pond last week best fish of the day 120lb.

Cheers mate, sounds good, love it there, always had great fishing and fish, looking forward to fishing there again so much, wish I lived nearer, Phuket is a bit of a trek!

The shame is Phuket could so easily have a fishing park like it. There's so many lakes there and plenty of people wanting good fishing. Transport would be an issue of course. Tuk tuk more like <deleted>, <deleted>!

If there was such a lake here in Phuket it would be very very expensive, everything here is geared up to tourist rates, it is worth the trip to Cha Am just to get away from the tourists and tourist prices.

Phuket Fish Park quoted me 2,300 baht per head - whoo boy!!!

  4. You have to swear a stat dec. They have copies there that you fill in the details. If divorced you have to show your divorce papers. If died they need to see a death certificate. If never married you need to give two referees names addresses and telephone numbers

ripstanley - thanks mate that is exactly the info I was after

  5. On my first visit to Isaan a few years ago I had no choice but to put ice in beer as everywhere was serving warm/hot beer.

Anyway a few years down the track and back here in Phuket I still find myself putting ice in beer - have I lost the plot???

  6. LOL, typical Expat that has a job but won't share any details because he is afraid of the competition. hahahaha

Sent from my GT-I9100 using Thaivisa Connect App

No problem sharing information it's easy.

Go to university for 4 years and obtain a degree in an engineering discipline and then go out and get some practical experience in the real world.

Apply for jobs overseas and build up a career with a reputation for professionalism in the industry working for moderately sized companies, or the big boys if you can get in.

Come to Thailand and target expat companies that could use your expertise.

DON'T come to Thailand for the cheap pussy and beer with no skills or experience and think you will get a well paid job.

Very good point! I completely agree with you and believe me when I say I definitely don't fit your description in regards to beer and bars LOL... After 8 years of University training I'm pretty sure I'm not your average tourist smile.png

Ha Ha Ha I spent 7 years at university to get a 4 year degree!!! Good times though.

  7. OD I have a pond of about 2/3 rai which I stocked with about 800 tilapia and about 600 java barb along with about 200 odd catfish, 50 odd climbing perch and a few spotted featherback. Needless to say the tilapia have bred like mad things. I am not looking at any commercial sales etc only for my own enjoyment and few fish to eat. Anyway I am looking at putting a few predator fish in the pond to control the tilapia. I have easy access to snakehead which I catch regulalry around the area but am scared if I put a few in the pond I will end up with no other fish in some period of time. Other option is to source barramundi. Your thoughts please??? I am in the Maha Sarakham area by the way.

  8. I have an AIS aircard but the signal strength in the village does not allow for connection. I have heard you can put together an extension aerial which would allow for my aircard to be remote from my laptop and increase signal strength.

My mobile phone works fine in the same place for internt albeit a bit slow.

It is not an issue with the SIM cards as I have changed them over and the problem remains - phone connects but Aircard does not.

Any advice appreciated as to how I can increase signal strength to the laptop!!!

  9. Just caught my first few snakehead in both dams and a small river. Although all pretty small - about 400g - is great fun, more like hunting than fishing at times. Ate them all !!!

All caught on a surface frog but had a few takes on spinners as well.

Brother in law arrives tommorrow for New Years and apparently he is the number one fisherman around these parts so should get a few pointers from him too.

Thanks to all Impkenai and Quiksliva for your advice. Still a lot to learn but having a ball. already had demands from the missus to "holiday fishing".

  10. Asanee makes a valid point about Tiger's use of the Charter Airline Terminal at SIN but given that the two building are pretty close to each other that shouldn't be a major issue I wouldn't have thought. I can't agree with the comments though regarding cancelled flights at short notice due to lack of passengers, two of my three flights with Tiger from Phuket to Singapore saw me being one of only ten or fifteen passengers at most, the return flight however seem to nearly always be quite full. Thai Airways by contrast had/has a nasty habit of cancelling it's mid morning Phuket/Bangkok flight unless the flight was/is fully booked, even the travel agents in HKT advise against that flight due to the uncertainty.

I have flown Singapore to Phuket and Bangkok every 2 weeks for the last few years and probably 60 odd percent of that on Tiger. Only once was flight cancelled and must admit was not impressed as it meant I missed my connection to Khon Kaen - not much concern shown by Tiger.

  11. Interested to know if it is necessary to use a steel/wire leader when fishing for Pla Chon. Have looked at various photos but can't quite see whether a steel leader or some heavier test is used

Also any tips on which lures are more successful than others much appreciated.

I am just about to head off for a 4 month stretch in Isaan, Maha Sarakham province, and hope to do a bit of fishing while there.

  12. Thank you so much for all the wonderful advice and PM's I have recieved. Please, please keep posting replies even if you think your advice or information will not be of any use because so far most that has been posted is of some use. :)

I too am about to start the process of buiding a house in Isaan - Maha Sarakham province. Been quoted 2 million for approx 172 square meters. I have visited a house they are just completing in Korat and was pretty impressed with wokmanship etc. Obviously there will be a few plus plusses along the way but we intend to be there during the whole build so hope to keep some control.

As a matter of interest has anyone else come across the FACT that after Songkraan it will be very bad luck to buid a house for the next 4 years. Get your building going now!!!!
