  1. This story seems very confusing. Either there was only one Cambodian who was an army colonel who, after been arrested and put in detention ten days ago, then escaped and managed to take with him the data collected and other documents - ie. the evidence - or, there were two cambodians, one who was never caught (the colonel) and a second one who escaped after being arrested.

This should give the military a reason to buy another 10 broken down submarines from the Russians. Don't you think?

  2. Chart Thai Pattana leader Chumpol convinced Army chief is neutral in the poll and will not interfere in the results /TAN_Network

Yup!!! We also believe in the Easter Bunny. Is there still anybody that believes in a fair election?

Nothing ever changes here. Business as usual. Its a beautiful country and great ladies but one moves back 50 to 150 years in time.

  3. What a crock, European tourists do not go to Pattaya to learn about the Thai culture they go for sex, if they arrive totally unaware that Pattaya is the biggest brothel in the world they pretty soon find out and have a disappointing holiday. I must add I admire the large expensive hotel chains that are moving in, but being a cynic I suspect they have their eye on the rich middle East guys rather than mum, dad, granny and the three kids from Birmingham.I must add this guy sounds a little crazy ( read a lot ) to suggest Mexico will be a rival to Thiland ref tourism, nobody dare go to Mexico because of the drug murders. I have Mexican relatives living in LA who are too afraid to cross the border to visit their own family. does this guy work for TOT //???????

Just typical reporting from the local fish rapper "The Nation" Why do we never hear article from the Bangkok Post? I should not be even commenting!

I am waiting for a post from "The Nation" There is a Easter bunny! Go ahead and sensor me.

  4. He added that the money must be in the bank for a minimum of 3 months on the first application.

The money must be in account 2 months for first application per police order 777/2551. Perhaps the word intended was 'after' rather than 'on'?

' Married to a Thai national will offer eligibility to apply for permanent residency'. I am reading this correctly. You can apply for PR if married to a Thai, I thought that you had to be paying Thai tax to do this?

    Rick

I am married for over 7 years to a Thai and been living here we have our own house of course in my Thai wife name and renew my yearly non immigration O retirement visa. What do I do to get 3 year resident visa?

  5. Is this topic really even newsworthy?

List of ASEAN member states (http://www.asean.org/18619.htm):

    Brunei Darussalam

    Cambodia

    Indonesia

    Lao PDR

    Malaysia

    Myanmar

    Philippines

    Singapore

    Thailand

    Viet Nam

What city WOULD you expect to be first, besides Singapore?

What city WOULD you expect to be next, besides Bangkok?

Now, if the headline were about Bangkok's ranking within ASIAN nations, that might be more of interest!

No it is not news worthy! But neither are 99% of the articles out of The Nation. Also we(United Nation Countries) call it Burma not..........?

  6. Mark said FREE 12 years of education INCLUSIVE is not true. Care to disagree?

No! We have a 15 year and a 17 year old daughter. The new school year just started and my

wife figures about 10,000 Baht for each for this semester. However both of our daughters are in honor classes.

One has the live here like we do to understand what is true. Not to hear it from a guy in a bar or even other

Farangs that live here and have no children, they also do not have a clue.

  7. I have been a teacher here for 6 years and the government makes it harder every year for foreign teachers to work here and yet they let this scum open businesses and extort money from people.

It all comes down to money. MOST ( not all ) Thais do not have principles they can be easily bought.

Of course they are charging high prices because they have to pay off the police to stay in business.

If the government paid police a decent wage and got rid of most of it's existing police force we may actually have some law and order here, and the Thai people may even start to respect the police. Then the foreign mafia ( with Thai interests ) would have to move to another country. jap.gif

You hit the nail on the Head. Thank you!

  8. Once again shoddy reporting. The issue of fuel economy and a mid-air engine 'incident' are not related. Why conflate the issues? Now if Qantas are found to be taking short-cuts on maintenance well that is a more serious issue though given their impeccable safety record I suspect not.

Thank you so much for your clarification. To me The Nation is just another fish rapper. Now I am waiting to get warned! The subject is not a fish rapper. Like it or not it is!

  9. Maybe after writing this article he can expect to receive his check so he can go for a short time. Hate these guys who judge people by hangin out in Pattaya or Nana or Soi Cowboy in Bangkok or Patong in Phuket and then come up with all this crap...darn wanke_rs

I came here and married a Thai over 8 years and adopted my wife 2 Thai daughters. I know all about the normal life here but I am still not an expert.

85% come here never see the real country and should not even be able to judge anybody or anything. Many years ago this Thai visa was great and George was fair and

most likely still is today, but many are not. The Nation to me is a local fish rapper and Thai Visa was great years ago and not bias but now it is a run like British tabloid.

Warn me, kick me out, for saying like it is.You are very welcome.

  10. I dont think the Thai Elites want their country run by a woman. Especially a Shiniwatra. There will be Anarchy if she wins.

The daughters are good enough to take care of their parents and receive the education in LOS.Why is that?

I answer it for you. Most of the men are here are irresponsible. I think it is a great idea.

I know most of you be complaining about her name. There thousands of other women here that are more qualified then any man.

I myself would welcome any women. There been many great Women leaders in the past and what is wrong of Merkel of Germany

and Rousseff of Brazil now and their countries economies are still a dream in Thailand.

  11. It was still inexcusable the hotel remained open after continuing deaths. Cheapo owners excuse to control poor house cleaning issues. And of course there will be no prosecution other than possibly the exterminators being taken down as the hotel owner is related to people 'in uniform'.

Why? As long the owners can buy the agent legally, Thailand, ore their politicians are responsible for the deaths. Just walk to your next Carrefour, or TESCO. You still can buy floorcleaners with "nanophenols" in them, which causes birth defects. Moreover, the people in thailand walk barefeet on their floor or tiles. This "ingredient" is outlawed in Europe since ages.

It is the never ending story of "mai pen rai",the ignorance and inactivity of the Thai government, as those guys are only interested in how Thailand can be exploited to their own advantage.

Could not agree more.Who knows who is involved in the import export business in government or their relatives and makes sure everyone looks the other way. Consumer protection and safety standards are non existing because it protects the masses not the few privileged that have the money and power.

  12. When the Thai's have had a honest PM, they are hindered/blocked/manipulated/etc, by those who have no regard for honesty.

What do you expect when many of these individuals would probably be in the monkey house if they carried on as they do here, in the more honest governments of the world.

Err why should Thailand have something that no other country in the World has ever had!

    I second that motion

  13. I'm not in any way defending the man, but here is something, to me, that makes zero sense.

    1) He was convicted of corruption for "abuse of power" by signing a legal document that, BY THAI LAW, he is REQUIRED to sign if his wife (at the time) was buying property.

    2) So, he's LEGALLY REQUIRED, as her husband, to sign it.

    3) BUT the court then says he "abused his power" by signing it since he was PM at the time. Can anyone explain that to me in a rational manner?

    4) The courts have since ruled that the land purchase was "Null and Void" which, in legal terms, means IT NEVER HAPPENED. The wife (ex now) had to give the land back, and she got her money back, plus interest.

    5) So, therefore, if the courts ruled the deal was "Null & Void", and never legally happened, that means any documents he signed, in accordance with Thai law, are also "Null & Void", and therefore he cannot be guilty of "abuse of power".

Perhaps someone on here knows Thai law much better than I do, but as I stated earlier, this make zero sense to me. Unless, of course, you consider that TIT, where making sense of things is a totally alien concept to them.

Oh, and I also noticed someone said Thaksin's Goverment was the "most corrupt". I find that somewhat amusing, since Transparency International now rates Thailand as MORE corrupt than it was during the time when Thaksin was PM.

    :whistling:

I have been here for 8 years and corruption is a way of life here. Put all those politicians in a bag pull them out and they all look the same.I myself find more corruption now and harassment especially from the police.

  14. God Bless America! This is truly a great day. It would be great to be in NY right now. This day came because of Guantanamo and waterboards and all the other stuff that US bashers whine about . Where did the information come from that made this possible? Only thing I am sorry is that Bin Loser died too easy, and now US will probably have to pay a fine for polluting the ocean. Today I am very proud of America and US Navy and now conspiracy nuts can drone on but nothing can change the fact that this is a great day and justice is finally done.

Let here some Yankee bashing which has been popular recently

  15. Better start with the Politions now as they have already started bribing the Thai voters with Holidays and Bus trips for weekends fully paid for for a vote.

Do people still pay the POLICE, IMMIGRATION and the list goes on.

    Quote

It's still legal for a minister here to endorse a contract with a bidding firm that is owned by the minister's son or daughter, she said.

More or less in hundreds of towns thoughout Thailand the voted in person is the one that is reaping the BIG rewards, most have HIGH connections, so no one can touch them. As for blaming outsideforeign companies amongst others is a bit real. This smell starts at home, but no one wants to see it.

Lets face it corruption been always part of their culture and always will and so is discrimination

  16. It smells: Discrimination?

Why not take it a step further and allow all from the "civilized" countries to get a 90 day on arrival??

If you been here long enough and stayed in the car so your wife gets a fair price you know how discriminating this country is.

The women are the best in the world and no comment about the men :)The word Farang says it all about the insecurity about Thai men.

  17. I watched the uncensored video and it is still out there.

This is extremely bad for the country's image around the world.

It has the semblance of the Brits loutish behaviour in the Spanish holiday resorts.

It is simply done in bad taste and should be kept in the bars. In fact these girls have brought the bar culture out onto the streets in full view of children and for the world to see.

A 500 baht fine is a joke for lowering Thailand's image to rock bottom.

I guess that the pillocks who uploaded the video onto the Internet are shiteing their pants right now and the girls claim to fame has backfired on them.

    You are joking, i hope..........

No I am certainly not joking.

This event may seem harmless enough, but this leads to other things and sooner or later becomes more extreme.

For example, in Britain young teens and thugs have practically taken over the streets and this is exactly how it all starts if rules are relaxed.

Personally I don't want to see too many Western influences in Thailand, I love the country just the way it is.

Boundaries need to be drawn otherwise it will lead to the demise of the whole of Thai culture, just as what has happened in the UK.

I am not a prude or in anyway against this sort of thing, providing it is done at the right places, only for adults and not as a public spectacle for all and sundry.

    Hey Beetlejuice,

I love Thailand as well and do not want to see it changed too much for it is beautiful as it is.

Although there are some points that could be improved, but that is like any other country in the world, not one of them is perfect.

Thai people are beautiful and a joy to be around, I mean that from the bottom of my heart.

In Thai culture (not that long ago) however it was perfectly normal for women to be dressed topless, so showing their breasts in public was perfectly normal.

It was Western influence that changed this and labeled it indecent to dress topless.

It was us with our puritan philosophy that corrupted them and also brought many diseases not only here but every place on this earth. Then we wonder why no one likes us.

  18. He said that the clip has negatively affected the image of Thai culture and that all parties involved with such behaviour should be punished, while asking police to give importance to this issue, for it destroys the country's reputation.

Just what does he think Thailand's reputation is? Shocking how this wonderful pure society will be marred by these hussies! The fact they are allowed to flaunt themselves in public and sell their bodies with impunity in bars often owned by policemen is doing far, far worse damage.

500 Baht for dancing topless; 100,000 baht or 5 years for uploading the video to Youtube... The message is that it is not a big deal to dance topless in public - as long as nobody finds out. Pretty much like Thai politics...

Often owned by the BOYS in BKK running the country
