  1. Taxi in Phuket is bad. They charge very high for the trip from airport to Patong which is weight more than Suvarnbhumi to Silom.

This whole thing is a joke as usual. What do they have a police force for? They can say: You give me money everything be fine, but

to enforce a law what is that. Then the military another useless commodity. Lets face it if it would not be for the great women in this country

as my wife is and there are many more like her but if it comes to the men, sorry no comment

  2. Won't the police find out who the driver was? After all, it was a big truck (10 wheels). Or is it that in Thailand, the truck owner does not keep track of who is driving his truck?

Funnily enough I know a director of a haulage company in Thailand and he reckons they tell their drivers to flee the scene of accidents so they can get their story straight and limit damage from criminal and civil lawsuits.

Fleeing the scene seems to be all too common in Thailand especially in the case of fatalities. That's those cultural flaws hampering progress again folks.

Easy! They should add a hit and run law to double his punishment like they have in most western countries or is this asking to much here where a free for all and do what ever you want on the road exist?

  3. 'Left Hand Down A Bit, Mr Pertwee. Whooop ! Whooop! Oops, Sorry Pardon' (UK's Navy-Lark radio-show of old)

At least they're not nuclear-submarines, but the need for these does seem a bit of a stretch, are there no Italian 2 Man Subs left-over, from the 2nd WW ? B)

My god, Ha Ha  Pity they couldn't have got the BISMARK -HOOD-BELGRANO-Troop carrier TITANIC, and with the aircraft carrier they have, they would become collectors items, and good money for the set.

My post I know is ridiculous, but the purchace is a joke ..The only threat could be Laos--in full flood they could go up the Mekong. :redcard2::cheesy: :cheesy: :cheesy:

The whole idea is a joke. Do they have anyone qualified to operate them. They may submerge and never com back up.Sorry left the manual on land.

  4. All elections are bought here. It is the greatest unspoken joke in Thailand. Always funny to me to see all the bar girls head back to Isan to get their 500 baht for voting. It appears to me that the red shirts, with Takki funding them, would have the best chance of winning. However since both sides are buying votes...

...we are looking at true democracy.

I live up North and in my wife family there are doctors and one professor and many nurses and teacher some with masters degree they are ALL RED

and none of them are holding their hands out and they been waiting for an election for a long time. In this forum there is lots of assumption from people living in Bangkok

sorry to tell you there are 5 times more people living outside of Bangkok and the masses live in the country. For me was always a mystery why not call an election earlier and

all of this bloodshed maybe could have been avoided. To me it does not make any difference there be alway be Farang prices and we will be always be discriminated against

no matter who wins or looses.

  5. monitors don't have to be "the westerners", they might be from asean or from any other country in the world.

as suthep does not respect westerners, than equally the westerners should not respect this corrupt and ignorant military put government.

decline all proposal for observers - the right step to stay put in an authoritarian form of government thailand always was.

anyway, general elections are sham and show for the poor, if there is no an alternative political force to the present socio-economic system

Get Singapore here to monitor and while they are here lets impose their law. Just think all the corrupt official red or yellow would high tail it out of BKK and there be no one left.

  6. Im in Chong Nonsi area and im hearing an extreme amount of loud sirens, it cant possibly have anything to do with this can it? Anybody have an idea what is happening? Its got to be something big.

CNN showed a map which showed severe to extreme shakes near the epicentre in Myanmar. Mild shakes in Chiangmai. Judging from their map, I see no reason why anywhere in Bangkok would have suffered at all. Sirens more likely to be connected with a fire or road accident or someone important is driving home after dinner and needs the roads cleared for him/her.

We live in Bang Na area Bangkok. Didn't feel a thing.

    jb1

I live in Chiang Rai. My house is 3000sq feet on one level believe me it was rocking and rolling with several after shocks and a very good one 30 minutes after the first.

Went trough worse in America but this one up here was a pretty good one. Scared the living daylight out of my Thai wife and daughters.

  7. or become a non elected member of the cabinet

Who has avoided paying damages by "becoming a non elected member of cabinet"?

Well it a pointless question by you because as yet nobody has avoided paying damages because as yet we do not know if they will pay or not, but I am sure you know this full well and I am sure you know that I refer to Kasit who so far has avoided any charges as he is a member of the cabinet whilst not being elected for parliament. Ergo by becoming a one elected member of the cabinet you can avoid charges and therefore probably avoid damages.

On another note if you wish to be pedantic, this matter was in the civil court, the damages awarded will probably never be paid as Thailand does not have any procedure to ensure they are paid, therefore going to 'nick' if they don't pay is not on the agenda. As this is the case i doubt there will even be an appeal, it will just go unpaid.

Just another regular day and who really cares or worries? The Boys in BKK are not!!! Amazing Thailand to say the least but then this is the way this country runs and always will.

  8. Just another crazy , mind boggling statement.

Surely Tourist Police , means help for Farangs , so maybe the local police see another opportunity for additional income perhaps.................

What a stupid idea , so who will teach the police how to speak multi lingual ????????????????

Going another step backwards in 2011.............. Amazing Thailand !!!!

I figured that was coming next. Lets give their regular mafia police a complete free hand.

Was just shook down from them close to my house. They claimed they could not speak English

    but knew this well

" You Give Me Money do not worry " Then told me we are looking for drugs. I am 68 years old I told them I do not like drugs but they must.

They understood!!! After figuring out I was not intimidated by them they say " Sorry" What a joke they are to say the least.

  9. Thai army chief vows to stay out of election

Thailand's powerful army chief on Tuesday vowed not to meddle in the kingdom's elections and stressed his neutrality following coup rumours and increased street protests this year.[/b]

General Prayut Chan-O-Cha, who is considered a key ally of the ruling Democrat party, said the army would help "steer our country back to democracy" and would abide by the results of a poll due in June or July.

"It is up to the people to decide which party will form a government. Whichever it is I am still the army chief," he told reporters.

    The mili

Let's hope the comment that the General is a key ally of the Democrat party is not as straightforward as it sounds. His political views are a matter for himself but his confidence he will still be army chief if the Democrats'political opponents legally obtain power might be open to question.

In most countries he would be quickly sacked for aligning himself so openly, if indeed that is what he has done.

And they call themselves a Democracy

  10. The Thai cancer agency should discuss all the burning of the rubbish lying around the roads and fields that is readily set on fire - billowing cancer particles in the air

They should have some law here but apparently do not and would not hurt to educate the people about the danger of open burning

and was told after I complained that is part of nature. We compose our clippings and also taught my Thai wife to compose the clipping from fruit and vegetable.

Her family always asked what are you doing?

  11. The more that I read comments on ThaiVisa, the more I believe the IQ of most commenters is less than 70.

I understand why many Thais think farang are stupid. Many people on this forum constantly prove that assumption.

Many people that moved here and also joined since I did ThaiVisa sure fit your description.

This was a place years ago where people showed respect, no bashing and then we also called Thailand LOS.

Maybe I am asking to much for everyone to be civil.

  12. Japan is a "hi-tech" well organised country, that has spent a lot of time, thought and money on dealing with earthquakes....

Imagine if this happened in another country with nuclear power plants!

I feel sad for Japan but like you said we all should be glad it happened there. We are in the best of hands and lets hope it will not be another Chernobyl.

Even with the best organisation and planning and foresight things still can go wrong. This will be also a setback for all countries to try to shake away from the dependents on oil.

The future is at stake here too.Very sad to say the least.

  13. People are dying as we are reading this and all the tourist industry of Thailand can thank of is its pocket book.

Given this country's ignorance of anything happening outside of Siam Paragon I'm suprised they even reported on it! Of course their only focus is on how much money the scammers are going to lose here. Pathetic! They have very short memories here!

Well women are usually the educated and smart ones here however I do have to agree with you about " The Boys in BKK "

  14. This is all well and good but the vast majority of Thai children abused by paedophiles are abused by Thai offenders, often close relatives or untouchable people with money and influence. Massage parlours have private rooms offering under age girls to their special customers that include senior police and military officers who give them protection in the same way they protect the procurers who provide foreign tourists with under age boys and girls. Efforts by Western governments to deal with their own nationals abroad are just dealing with the symptoms of the problem and allow authorities in Thailand and other developing countries to sit smugly back and blame foreigners, while the root of the problem and their own sex offenders are left largely untouched.

You are so right. Thais make big money in border towns to supply anyone with under age girls or boys. I live in Chiang Rai and was approached in Mae Sai with even my Thai wife next to me, Burma 14-15 year old virgin

40,000 Baht for one night or anything else I was interested in. All supplied by Thai middle men. These people are just as guilty as any sex offender. Everyone involved in the under age sex trade with children should have

a tattoo put on there forehead "I am a sex offender" so everyone should be able to see. Actually the all belong in prison for life.

  15. At the press conference at Chiang Mai police headquarters today Chiang Mai Governor Pannada Disakul tried to allay fears of tourists caused by the four deaths in one hotel last month by saying: "We have to admit that these deaths coming one after another, are nothing more than coincidence. We have done and will continue to do our utmost to make tourists confident in our city."

I was hoping that they would say that they would do their utmost to find out what the tourists died of...

You're kidding right? Do you think the Chiang Mai police honestly care? Heck we still can't even get the facts on David Carradine dying in Bangkok. Farangs don't matter here. Never did, never will.

We are just like a bank card here. When it expires we are gone forever.

  16. ...

In terms of specificities concerning Thai Constitution, neither does it state that a dual Thai national could become Thai PM...

Have you read the constitution? It also does not state that persons with black hair or taller than 170 cm can become Thai MP. I gives a definitive list of requirements for candidates for Prime Minister and for members of the House of Representatives. Anything not in the list does not matter. This is how it works.

    No gray hair?

  17. Here we go.....Reds stole them right? gives the illegitimate government an excuse to shoot innocents again, next major protest watch the blood in the streets..... sadly.....

Got to blame someone instead their own incompetence.

What they need a military for? Sorry forgot to keep them safe from their arch enemy Cambodia? :o

  18. If they want tourists of any description it might be a good idea not to shut the country's major international airport down in the middle of the high season :whistling:

Shutting down the Airport made them the laughing stock of the world and I know several people that will never ever come back here again because of it.

Then Immigration with the grumpy high and mighty attitude are no help.
