  1. Do you honestly think the government wants consumption to decrease in alcohol sales?

Same with tobacco. They're electronic cigarettes that are beginning to affect slightly tobacco sales, so what does the our gov't do? Begin discussions on the safety of these things, why because of the nicotine found in their chemical make up. Look if you use tobacco you get nicotine, but you pay a hefty tax.it's a legal drug.

Electronic cigs pay no tobacco tax, big loss of income for gov't, so they'll have to be regulated and taxed. Does the gov't care if they're safe for user and harmless to non users. No it's all about the money, not the safety of their constituents. Just how to make gov't bigger and stronger.

While alcohol and tobacco are different products, their alike in one aspect, It's all about the money.

  2. World Arms Dealers

SupplierTotal Sales in US Dollars (billions)Percent of total salesSource: Richard F. Grimmett, CRS Report for Congress; September 10, 2010

Notes: Percentages are rounded; Each country shown as follows:

    • bar-blue.png developing countries
    • bar.png industrialized countries

    United Statesbar-blue.pngbar.png166.27840%Russiabar-blue.pngbar.png73.96518%Francebar-blue.pngbar.png35.1758%United Kingdombar-blue.pngbar.png29.3797%Chinabar-blue.pngbar.png13.6523%Germanybar-blue.pngbar.png19.7425%Italybar-blue.pngbar.png12.5313%Other Europeanbar-blue.pngbar.png43.75210%Othersbar-blue.pngbar.png22.4595%

Yep. That makes a lot of sense. It sums up most of the thread.

    Percentage of total sales

    America 40% Russia 18% France 8% UK 7% China 3% Germany 5% Italy 3% Other European 10% Others 5%

So this Victor falls somewhere in the 5% of others. The USA is the largest dealer of detruction in the world.

THE ARMS trade is a booming business. Each year, more money is spent around the globe on the weapons and military expenditures than anything else--more than social services, agriculture, health care, even the drug trade.

But if you think that the biggest seller of the world's weapons is a "rogue" nation or one of the countries on George Bush's "Axis of Evil," guess again. The biggest arms dealer in the world--for decades running--has been the U.S. government. From 1996 to 2009, the U.S. supplied about 40 percent of the world's weapons each year. By comparison, Russia, the second biggest arms pusher, supplied about 15 percent.

I look as Western Europe as a single entity The same population basically as the US, and about the same amount sold. So while its good for Euros to bang on the US,I think I'd look inward a little bit.

  3. The US through fraudulent mislabeling of junk housing assets sent the world into a tailspin ...... a few years later people want to blame China and their exchange rate ...... Classic typical smokescreen nonsense, to divert blame. ......... Who ever told you the US values it's gold at 43$ an ounce was pulling your leg LOL

Actually I wrote $42 per ounce. The IMF values its gold at $47 per ounce. Perhaps you might wanna check it out before putting typing fingers in gear. Its just an internal accounting thing but true nonetheless.

  4. Or to get China to demand payment for exports in their own currency...:D, else, all those present and future US treasury bonds China holds will be buying peanuts.

Why not demand gold? Of course then Chinese exports to the US would tank :D

I wonder who has been buying up a lot of gold in recent months and pushing up the price. Bet you can see red there! :D

The Obamas financial backer that wonderful citizen of the world's financial market, George Soros is trading in his dollars for gold. We all know how loved he is in Thailand and the UK for his fiscal responsibility while aiding a country in its economic troubles.

20% of the worlds gold reserves are held by gov'ts the US holds about a third of that, and values its gold at the rate of $42 dollars per ounce. At spot price value that'd be close to $300 billion dollars. If counties started demanding payment in gold then the price would drop.

China has been buying gold and mineral assets through the world, without much public outcry. Imagine the screaming if the US had decided to do that.

The US following the lefts economic hero Keynes is tottering toward an even worse economic future with inflation followed by depression in the forecast. Without gov't intervention and unprecedented spending their would've been a downturn and they would've recovered fairly quickly, A better idea would to have reduced the gov't spending and the gov't workforce as Britain will embark on.

  5. I dunno if this is a European vs American thing but in America our cake icing tastes sweet, not like butter, or rather margerine and oil.

    http://en.wikipedia....cing_%28food%29

that is what i like, fwiw.

Is this why one in three yank adults is classed as obese.

Not to worry The Mail online Nov. 7 2010 headlines" Fat Britain: Tackling the obesity epidemic" so the UK is joining the fat folk, the French have proposed a fat tax on sweets.

Look around you in Thailand at how the kids look now and how they looked 20 years ago, big difference in weight. The world is catching the US in a hurry.

  6. Why in the world should I worry about a full body scanner. Just had three kidney stones lithotripsy removed three weeks ago. That's a dozen people in a small room looking at my junk. Two days ago I had a drop dead gorgeous Chinese American resident (female) an assisting nurse and a male teaching surgeon remove the stent, your not asleep for this doesn't really hurt and your internals are on 4 screens to see whats happening. My second surgery of the year the just as many people looking at my naked body with the first one.

It's only the shell you travel in don't get uptight over a few people checking you out, I'm sure they've seen better and are truly bored looking at people pass through the scanner and probably give not a thought to what they've seen only what they're looking for.

  7. Sounds like there is some fraud in the system in the UK. How about 15 million illegal immigrants with a huge portion claiming gov't benefits without having ever worked in the US. Many mothers claiming benefits saying husband left me, while husband works without paying taxes and drive home in his SUV and drives his wife to the store to get gov't approved purchases for children while paying cash for the beer cigs etc

I listen to their comments how little regard they have for the US and it's citizens and saying just how stupid we are as a people while they live off a system that won't even send anyone out to verify anything as there are just too many people to service in office, and no pressure from the top to do it.

  8. 'mogoso' if she goes to the Hospital and ask for a blood/glucose test, if it is very high they will give her an injection.. Is she type 2 or type 1 ?

She has been going a lot including several hospitalizations and they spoke of diet and I think finally she gets it, and has quit eating rice and noodles. She kept saying how can I live without eating rice, the eating of rice was en"grained" in her. My wife kept telling her you cannot live if you eat rice. But even with diet its going to be a tough row to hoe for us to deal with this long distance. We were supposed to be in Thailand permanently at this point but it'll be 7 months before we get there now.

I want to thank all who replied

  9. Mommas let her diabetes get outta control.

What are the best and easiest meters to use ?

Where can they be purchased and at what price?

Shes totally ignorant of computer usage, so just need it to give her a number.

Also are the disc operated ones better than strips?

    What are the least invasive?

Thanks in advance for your comments and suggestions

  10. Tip: I always go to K&K Business, halfway Tapae Road right next to Tapae Inn hotel, just before the + junction (AIS office).

This guy is an Indian, straight and down to earth and he does a lot for his customers. Always finds you the best rates, sometimes advises to wait with a booking if a little later you will save money etc, he really cares..

I prefer him over any Thai as I know I can trust him, and most Thais have too much reserves.

A smart guy you can trust, his wife is lovely too..

    K&K Business

    053-252388

I've done business several times with him also, and concur. He has always been a man of his word. I've called him from the US years back to handle a ticket for my wife who was in Thailand and there were no problems even with just reading off the numbers from a credit card to pay for it.

  11. Personally I'd prefer to see George W "half a biscuit" Bush extradited to Iraq to face charges of invasion and the deaths of 110,000 people who did (and do) nothing more than defend their country from a group of well armed foreign invaders that came from a land far far away, some of whom carry army issue Zippo lighters engraved with "Death is My Business, and Business is Good" - pathetic... - set the Russian free...

Saadam would've killed more than that figure if he had stayed in power. Just what was his yearly average of slain citizenry.

  12. 1. i like to pay tax - because i live in europe and my government gives me lots in return.

    2. i do not think it is right for old rich amerikans/ arabs//thai/ and other perverts to buy young thai women.

Your governments in Europe are going broke from from the lots they are giving you in return for your taxes. You'll also find that the expat population is a majority European that do what you solely lay at the feet of others. Your superiority complex shows in your comments, yet you have no reason to feel superior to anyone, as you aren't.

  13. Jiaogulan is an adaptogen, antioxidant, and supports the immune system.

It originates from china, but they've been growing it in northern thailand for a while.

Goggle gynostemma pentaphyllum you find all sorts of facts and claims. I tend to believe some and discard others, but it's history is known.

What we drink comes from either Chiang Rai or Chiang Mai area depending on where momma goes to buy it the kilo bags. As we're stuck in Atlanta till July, momma ships it over. Online its about $69 per half kilo so even with shipping charges its still much less to send her shopping and to the post office, than to buy online. Besides it gives a her a good feeling that shes helping us, and she is.

  14. You could be correct, but that is not how I understood it. I thought he was pointing out that he now thinks it is a waste of money.

By the way, I was not necessarily agreeing with him - I am quite interested in holistic health - but I can understand his sentiments. :wai:

    Gynostemma Pentaphyllum

I bought some tea recommended by my son from the Kings store at the airport. I have blood work done at least every six months and was told I had a high potassium and needed to control my diet. Diet said no tea, bummer as I don't drink coffee. Going through the kichen cabinet I saw the package and pulled it out. reading the name from the package I goggled it and found it was leaves from a type of wild cucumber. Seemed to me it wasn't tea per se so I started drinking it. Its slightly sweet and not unpleasant. A few months later my potassium levels were just fine. whether or not it helped I dunno. Its just supposed to help bring your body into balance, but is supposedly stronger by far than ginseng.

I do know it won't keep kidney stones away as I now am the proud owner of five of them suckers

  15. They deserve every bit of the bashing. The naval venture may be worthwhile, but there more worthwhile causes on the home front, such as promoting democracy and not military political influence and power. If a government needs the military such as the now Ruling Democrats (sic) to keep them in power then there is no democracy or freedom.

What is so important about Democracy. True Democracy is mob rule, or two wolves and a sheep deciding whats for dinner.

Democratic elected representatives to administer a system of laws, not the mood of the mob or union makes more sense than to bandy about democracy as if it is some kind of war club.

  16. I was at the dam today at Doi Saket. It's not going to happen. It would have to rain 40 days and 40 nights to fill the reservoir. The offical that opened the flood gates, he received a promotion and that's why Bangkok is sinking.

    :cheesy::cheesy::cheesy:

  17. There are lots of long-haired dictionary's throughout Thailand. Their English is usually broken but they are useful, but sometimes can be expensive.

Seriously you might seek a college student willing to spend time teaching you while improving their English at with your dime. Get some children's books and work your way up.
