  1. The Finn I would try and ignored and if he pisst me off give him a slap

I would never let a French man get that close to me

And I would buy the Aussies a beer

And good idea to aviod large groups of drunk British louts

I'm (Your) having a drink at a roadside restaurant and there are three Australians guys drinking whiskey next to you. One of them starts to say hello.

And I would buy the Aussies a beer.

Whiskey they were a drinking my friend.

Kinda nice to have a chaser or just make it a boilermaker :o

  2. Ladphrao, nah, not close to home, I'm not really bothered too much about football (the real one) unless England are playing, but know it's far better than watching a bunch of fat blokes standing around, and so does the vast majority of the nations on this planet. No-one gives a <deleted> about the glory days or the loss of empire, blah, blah in Britain, so I wouldn't bother with that lark. Doesn't affect me or anyone else in the UK, and if you're think you're turning the dagger..555555555555555555555555. Economically 4th in the world...not bad for a litttle nation. But why bring all this up anyway? What has this got to do with AF versus soccer? I repeat, take your head out of your bottom and try drinking some beer if mummy will let you. :o

ps - Roll on Germany...best keep your fingers crossed.

I oft wonder why many think that a football game is a walk in the park. Sure you utilize only short bursts of intense energy with normally thirty seconds or more between plays. Seems like plenty of time to rest.

I then pose the question, how many of you have played the game? Ok I know very few have. So lets look at it this way,how many of you have been in an intense fight? Did it last very long? Unless you were unlucky to find someone of your abilities, it was short intense and someone took the brunt of it a hurry. But go back to the fight with someone of your abilities, it lasted a bit longer, and regardless of whom won, both parties were spent, battered and bruised. in a not so long period of time. Thats the weary you get from football.

I played soccer in junior high, there was no letter to be gained as it was played through the city recreation dept. It just wasn't the same degree of tired in comparison to my high school years of football. Footballs bone weary, bruising, intense motion and thought. Soccer, despite the occasional bump into each other, a gentle game with an ebb and flow. theres time for players to catch a breath, and if a sub is occasionally needed or wanted the coach takes one of his reserves and puts them in. Talk about sitting around doing nothing on the bench, soccer reserves, literally do nothing.

Some here still carp about the wearing of pads and helmets. Without them the injuries would sky rocket, Ever have anyone step on you face with cleats? punch kick, poke, elbow, knee gouge you while your pinned under a pile of players unable to move? Footballs a battle, modern jousting, not so much about moving the ball as it is to destroy the will of the opponent to do battle. To wear him down and out.

So enjoy futbol, root for your teams, sis boom bah But it just ain't in the same physical or mental class as football IMHO

It would be rather sad if they did'nt have the best players, as they are the only country that play the game.

    ]

Funny statement considering that most here say soccers such a great game. I guess the countries that play womens soccer are only a few (1), according to your statement.

Just as the US men field a team so do other countries field womens teams. Norway and China are among two of the best, but I guess as its not the UK winning or fielding a good team, the women don't count. I personally like women and do count them as players.

I'm sorry you don't like ladies, but I guess thats a personal preference.

  4. Don't be fooled by the ranking (as it appears you are not, the rankings are poor), the USA are gash and do not have a strong national side with any hope of being crowned the champions of the world any time in the near future. I would imagine that the problem is that until the USA have a side capable of being the world's best the general public, en masse, will not be particularly interested, but of course without that level of interest they have no chance of having such a team. After all, the USA is used to having the world's best American Football and Basketball teams, it must be hard for the association football failures to compete. But of course, they have somewhat more opposition :o

The US does have a side that can compete with and win the world,. Of course I'm talking about the US womens team. As I've said before it's a game for children and ladies, and our ladies take it serious. :D

Besides while I can't watch a bunch of men running around in their shorts, watching paint dry IMHO is more interesting.

I can look at the ladies doing the same actions, and actually be interested for a minute or two. :D

  5. I have not been able to figure out what the "fuel element" is made of. Does anyone know? It has a strong smell of fuel oil or something similar. I left a couple inside my car overnight and it took a few days to get rid of the odor.

If you tried exporting I am sure it would have to be declared as a hazardous material, if it could be shipped at all. (No expertise in this matter).

Parafin is the main fuel source. Sometimes it's a roll of toilet paper soaked in the stuff...

Why not simply make them yourself? Simply tissue paper with a small frame to hold the fuel.

    [/quot

You can soak the roll of paper in kerosene. I found, due to my inexperience/ imcompetence that the tricky part was getting it airborn without the ballon burning up. :o I solved this problem by utizing a fan to keep the sides away from the burning center till the heat created was sufficent for flight. I used a propane torch to light the center mass as the fan tends to blow out a lighter or match. Don't let kerosene get on the ballon, attach not dripping kerosene roll while fan keeps paper sides of ballon away from attach point.

The ballons I had don't come with all you need for flight. I had to use thin strips of balsa wood to create a cicular ring at ballons bottom, a thin wire stretched across in a X pattern to attach the roll to. Of course the roll itself must have wire holding it together as well as to attached to your center point. And I used masking tape to hold ring to ballon.

This is not a solo job on your first effort, safety first please

  6. prostitution and pornography legalised in holland in the sixties

pornography legalised in america in the late 60's 68 i think

any way after these were legalised rapes incidences increased at alarming rates, why?

Perhaps the most signicant issue in the rape statistics is the attitudes of the victims to their experience. Tippaporn is coming dangerously close to suggesting the victim's mindset determines their victimhood. I don't agree with that argument.

However, women in the west, and particularly America, have become far more aware of their rights and perhaps more importantly far more assertive in claiming their rights not to be victims. This results in a willingness to report rapes and that eventually appears as higher rape statistics. The truth is not more rapes, but more rapes reported.

Thai women have yet to assert themselves on this issue, until they do, they will remain silent victims and some will see that as evidence that there is a lower incident of rape in Thailand.

Sadly we know from experienc of every country that has adopted more womens rights that the incidence of rape is hidden until women gain confindence to report the crime and, importantly, support when they do report the crime.

For now, point the finger else where, blame foreigners, blame the victims.

But at some time the reckonning has to be made. There is a causal link between a lack of woman's rights and rape and what a Catholic priest can do, so can a monk.

    .

Good posting, but it brings to mind things I've read about courts in Scandinavian countries blaming the victims mode of dress for being the reason they were attacked by Islamic males. They have strong womens rights in those countries that are set back in the effort to be politically correct towards those of a different culture living in their country. I dare say it should be our country our rules and justice should be blind when it comes to administering sentences, foriegner or citizen.

  7. I've always thought I was bad-assed when it comes to drinking. After reading the story, I started having second thoughts. Maybe, I should give "gasoline" a try. Who knows? It might just be what I needed.

    Which kind was that again?

Hope you don't smoke, or go up in smoke or with a bang after intaking. :o But I wonder what kinda hangover comes with a gasoline high? Is it by hours or miles?

  8. Would you be allowed to let them off in Europe

or US? I kind of doubt it somehow. :o

As long as it is not within 15 miles of a 'controlled' airport, I don't think it would be a problem.

I have this plan to send a dozen or so to my brother who lives in the cornfields of midwestern America, have him send them up over Hicksville some weekend evening then videotape for me the TV news coverage of UFO's over da crop circles!

Have any of you seen the old and frequently presented videos of the lights over Phoenix long ago that still stir folk's imaginations of little green guys and girls? If those are not our very own Thai lanterns, I don't know what is..

Hey, maybe if we exported enough of these things, we could start a whole new UFO rage in many of the "civilized" countries of the world, eh? :D

  9. Hockey - now that's the sport of the gods.

Hockey is similar to soccer, but the players have more skills while also smashing each other into the boards. Plus the players are allowed to square off and throw punches without being stopped by the refs. The new NHL rules have also made it more exciting - much more scoring.

    hockey is a great game

another great sport is hurling, one of Irelands national sports

15 men on each team with a tapered stick around 3' long, helmets are optional but apart from that no protection it is also very hard hitting and is the fastest field game in the world.a great sport to play and watch

  10. It seems that to know what we want, to try to achieve our little dreams, wanting to be independent from our partners, speak out when we think something is not fair make us less desirable to some western men who have found that a more docile woman is what they want. Fair enough...But why this bashing against us...

I have nothing against western women, my mother was one. :o My first wife (may the earth rest lightly upon her) was a western women. She was born in Cali Colombia and raised in Bogota and Boyaca. A really firey headstrong Colombian women, but a good women none the less. She grew up with maids to cook and clean for her so her domestic skills were to be kind, rudimentary. Her skills in handling of money were noexistent at the time of our marriage. She slowly grew capable over the years, after the burning of much food and our bank account.

My lovely Thai wife speaks softly, doesn't nag, cooks like a first class chef, and saves most of what she earns for our future. What she doesn't save goes into land purchases. Other than skin lotions and a few clothes shes virtually maintainence free.

What she isn't is docile. Shes quiet and reserved, but our home is run to her liking. I'm content to let her captain the ship. I know what our goals are, and I'm very happy with our ideas, and how we're working toward them. The only loud voice of displeasure I hear from her is of my own doing, as I might throw a container of cold water on her while shes taking a warm shower, while yelling songkran. Do not fear, she gets me back. :D

As far as femininity, my wife is twenty five years younger than I and shes hot.

What shes "not" is a good looking lady who in 10 years will look loke a boar hog, overweight, overbearing and with a nasty disposition. I know many will remain as they are today. sweet and fit. Most will sour as they age, making life unbearable for the poor husband whom will have deserved better, but can't stop time or their appettite. Some will end up with a bad husband, and will take it out on future males in their life.

As a large majority of North American women will end up with big bodies, I'm content with my petite and lovely wife.

Some men have state that thai girls are more feminine...again I consider myself and most of my friends quite femenine...

  11. One legend I like concerns minature elephants that bring good luck. supposedly they congugate near water sources to relax and play. I'm not sure if you just need to see them or capture one for the good fortune to befall you. I don't know if this is a Thai or Laos legend or both.

I do like hearing of the Nagas in the Mekong.

  12. I have always been a fashion addict, In Montreal, my friends would say that I could teach a shopping or style class. Fashion 101. :o

I always thought the women in the warmer months in Montreal were quite chic. But as I spent my nights at Biddles I thought a lot of them overdressed.

In the winter at Mont Tremblatt (sp) they sure spent alot of cash to look good going down a mountain :D

  13. ( As I've said watching men play soccer just doesn't cut it world cup or not) I do remember a thai man killing his wife for not giving him the remote so he could watch a world cup game. Dang if he didn't watch the game and then go and turn himself in.)

Soccer? is that even considered a sport?. Women plays that game too don't they :D .

women wrestle too!! is that still a sport!hahahah :o:D

been play soccoe since 13 still like it better ther getting beat up over a pigskin

(Not sure what this means so I'll not comment on it. :D)

Ladies mud wrestling is a sport :D And I might add very watchable. :D In the US pro wrestling is known as sports entertainment as it isn't a sport because of predetermined outcomes. )

  14. The way I see it so what if your not Buddhist, you've married a Buddhist lady, who at this time in her life takes her philosophy serious. Look its great fun, a good party and it gets things off to a good start with family. We had only three monks at our blessing, but were in Atlanta Ga where there ain't a whole lotta Thai Buddhist monks availible.

Nonetheless it was a nice ceremony, with a little chanting, a little speech by one of the monks explainig our duties to each other (in english) a little more chanting. Dots on our heads string halos attaching to each other and water poured on our hands by all assembled, a little lunch ceremony (feeding the monks)and it was done. All non thais there loved it. We then proceeded to party a bit.

We're going to do it again when we return to Thailand to live as her mother and family couldn't travel to the US to be at this one. It ain't a big deal, just an excuse to party. Open your wallet and have a good time.

  15. Sad, yes. :o Be happy they're not camcorders watching you!

I think I read somewhere that Britain will utilize their system of cameras and computers to keep track of the movements of autos for the next two years. While I'm sure it won't matter to most people, it wouldn't affect me if they did it in the US, it'd sure be creepy, knowing big brother is watching. With thought crime just around the corner, turns out George Orwell was not just a scifi author, buta Prophet.

  16. Why would it take scientists to work it out?...simply ask 99% of the global population!

I ain't a scientist but I dunno, my math must be wrong, as the US has what 5% of the worlds population. So your supposition of 99% would mean 80% of the US population prefers the little girls game to American football, I don't think so. Watching paint dry has as much attraction to me as watching men play soccer. There are some places where badmitton is preferred by a percentage of the population over soccer ie parts of Pakistan India

Im at a loss to understand just how complicated it is to play zone and man to man defenses in soccer compares to the intricacies of offense and defenses of american football. Theres no blitzes, dogs, pulling guards etc etc. No one is trying to cut block, tackle trap etc Just kick the ball and occasionally use your head. Boring simple minded game, real life foosball with less action.

NHL is soccer on ice with more scoring and occasionally a fight breaks out. Lots of hard hitting. Theres a large amount of folks who like hockey more than soccer in the scandinavian countries, and I like going to a game every so often. It helps to live in a city where we have an NHL club as well as a minor league team. We do have a soccer club in town, but the minor league hockey team outdraws them in attendance as do most of our high school american football teams.

If I had to watch a soccer game I'd prefer to watch the US womens team play the game, as at least theres something to see. Too bad Mia Hamm has retired, to marry a baseball player (Nomar Garciaparra) Well at least he graduated from GA Tech

So while soccer maybe the most played sport it ain't the best sport. IMHO :o

  17. Concert starts at 7pm with drum troupe, Hawaiian band. Then The Jackalans at 930pm, Funkin Donuts with Took 1030pm, Maya Band 1130pm ...

Saw Loso and China Doll at one of these free concerts 5 years ago. Enjoyable evening, I think it was during Songran.

  18. We would just get a troop or two of Girl Scouts who would do the job quicker, cheaper and easier and wouldn't be looking at stealing things on the side.

Girl scouts would be ok, they are an American organization. but they might pilfer a bit as alot of young folk shop lift. Of course they'd have to NRA certification and instruction, otherwise they'd only be able to handle the French ("cheese eating surrender monkeys" bart simpson) Army.

Ever wonder why the Cinco de Mayo is a much bigger celebration in the US than in Mexico? Because it celebrates the Mexican Army's victory over the French. If it hadn't occurred, instead of Mexicans sneaking over the border we'd have the French.

  19. It sort of feels different from being in Oz/US/UK...maybe because you have to drive so far to find what you want, and then its not there anyway!

What did you do in your home country when bored?

Get into your car and drive with nowhere in mind, just to see what is there when you get there. The price of petrol can't be a stopping point if you shop at N. Marcus.

Read a book, a paper, or paint you home. Plant a garden, tend a garden. Go have a beer, a coffee, or visit a hardware store (I love tools)

If your in Bkk there lots of places to visit, try the forensics museum. Go to a Wat and sit down with a monk and have a chat. Do some volunteer work, gotta be someone near you that needs help or advice.

Grab you fishing pole and have at it, you might even catch something. If all else fails go get a massage, be careful you might even catch something.

  20. Bread, milk, cheese? Can any western farang live without them? We'll see.

    Gary

quite easily, if said farang has dietary intolerances to gluten and lactose :o

Whats so hard about finding bread, milk and cheese. I don't remember having a problem finding them in Chiang Mai. Although when I return as a retired old %^^*&* I should have more than ample time to bake my own bread. It ain't hard, but its been 45 years since last I watched my mother make it (once a month or so). Not because its cheaper than buying that packaged crap (its not) but because it tasted so much better.
