  1. Reminds me of George Soros when he shorted the Burmese Gov. in 1999 with like $1.4 Trillion in and out which nearly destroyed their economy.....poor communist wonderful peace loving leaders that the Burmese are :-) Hurt Levis Jeans Co and they had to pull out of the country and lose all that cheap slave labor....

The George Soros, the same George Soros whom backs moveon .org and others like it. The socialist whom backs every nutcase in the political left in the USA. Why he's a democrat and a friend to all suffering people in the world. He'd never harm anyone from the political left, he's a democrat.

  2. Going forward, given the lessons learned from the TRT party in gaining the support of those upcountry, I think the Democrats will take this to heart. I know some of their leaders (socially), and they are good people and I believe they will do the right things.

I hope you are right there.

Taking all in consideration, i believe the Democrats have so far been the best governments in Thailand. Lets wait and see.

And I believe the opposite, but I hope whomever gains power will lead Thailand to what is best for Thailand and its people, and the heck with what farangs feel is right.

  3. Always found it easy to give my cat a bath. From his first day with me at 6 weeks old I started giving him a bath. At first in the sink but as he grew I'd just take him in the shower with me and soaped and rinsed him up properly. His weight grew to 24 lbs but matched his height well as he was not fat, just big larger than a Maine coon cat, he was larger than the ocelot I had as a kid.

A terror to dogs and those who knew him not well, he never scratched me in anger, or trying to squirm around in shower.

I assume it was from the familiarity of the process, that getting a weekly shower, presented no fear reaction in him, or his trust in me.

Coming home with him after a three month trip to Colombia, he first, then I ended up in a small room with customs agents who were having a devil of a time trying to examine him without me. I calmly picked him up to show it was just his way to protect hisself from the unknown.... They then wanted to know why he wouldn't drink the water they offered to him. I simply said perhaps he didn't like you. We were dismissed curtly at that point

  4. Indonesia records more than 3 million illnesses and 400,000 deaths attributed to tobacco each year, and since there is little socialized medicine, cigarette consumers must pay their own hospital and funeral fees.

    --DPA/Bangkok Post 2006-04-06

Seems fair individual responsibility for an individual action, or why should someone else pay for your stupidity

  5. Also, I really would like to know what Taksin did to hurt the farang community that much? Raise taxes? Well, without taxes Governement is powerless. Made the visa harsher to get? No, but it's sure things went harsher for the cheaters (people who used to pay someone for doing the visa run in their places, or buying visa in Kha San).

Didn't he raise the financial requirements for marriage visa from 200,000 to 400,000 and set the amount for "pension visa" at 800,000?

Big whoppee. If your retired and haven't the wherewithal to have $20,000 USD to have deposited in a bank, what the blue blazes are you doing living outta your country? If nothing else your pension or social security should be enough to meet the minimum 30,000 thb per month in place of the bank deposit. If not what will occur when your too infirm to care for yourself? You expect the Thai gov't to care for you because you were too inept to plan for your future? to realize that the end of your time on earth will happen and you'll probably be sick to care for yourself for a portion of your time left. So Issan rice farmers taxes should go to pay for your sorry butt ? ( really I don't know or care to know the actual state of your butt condition, just a phrase :o )

Really they aren't or shouldn't be a great imposition on your financial position. If you leave, you get to take your money with you, if you die, your going to leave it behind anyway :D

  6. But by boycotting, forcing the issue of Thaksin's acceptability, it is plain 11 million, who didn't receive a single baht for their vote, said ,'NO'!

The Democrats will be back, they're not all a collection of businessmen disguised as politicians like TRT.

Not a single baht for their vote, come on give me a break, this is Thailand we're discussing. Demos are always very active in buying votes

  7. As you have missed the second largest province off the list i will have to vote other....

    Nakhon Ratchasima

If I were to live in Issan, it'd be in Nong Khai. I like the feel of the place, it's comfortable, I don't feel that way in Korat.

However I've no choice in the matter, my wife says we will live in Chiang Mai, which I also like :o

  8. My Fiance', her Father, and I went to the Thai Navy range in Samutprakarn a couple months ago when we got her a lovely 9mm. She carries all the time and everyone feels much better now that she dose. I only wish I could carry too :o what a lame rule that we can't carry guns. We (foregners) get victimized too. In the States I'm licenced and carry a Glock model 22 .40cal. In Iraq I pack a classic, Colt 1911 .45. I would like the Glock for Thailand, I would think with all the humidity the .45 would require much more cleaning and attention.

And the very reason that you have mentioned, it is a good idea that you are not allowed to carry one. You might find that 90% of the farang population here have no need to carry firearms.

In most cases just the brandising of a firearm is enough to solve your problem, as most criminals prefer their victims helpless, and not armed. If you have to use a weapon shoot to kill and worry about the future when it gets there. explanations are given by those who stay alive.

If I'm one of the ten percent who might be at risk that old 1911 sounds mighty nice to have along for company, nice stopping power.

  9. Might I place the University of Georgia into the mix. Top ten in Vet schools, small town atmoshere, yet close enough to Atlanta, which has great shopping, restaurants, and nightlife. Cost of life much cheaper than on the left coast or in the northern states.

Athens the town where its located produces many great bands REM , B-52s etc has great restaurants and nightspots and Atlanta's the hip hop capital if your groove needs to get down.

Climate varies, but not so much as in the north or midwest. It snows, but only once or twice a season and generally has a most hospitable clime for the winter. The summers will remind you of Bangkok.

Only a few hours to the beach and less to the mountains (or what passes for such in the southeastrn US) larger than those found in Thailand yet much smaller than the western states.

Georgia has good sports programs, especially womens gymnastics golf swimming and tennis whom were at the top or number 1 in country and a decent mens football squad. No soccer played. :o

The Atlanta environs are home to many golf courses, lots of folks like to call Atlanta home, including Elton John. Bars are open late, strippers still strip, a real active nightclub scene for every taste

  10. Thank buddah Thailand isn't just Bangkok. :o

I concur , If the voting percentage remains the same, its really a good old fashioned butt kicking. But I doubt they'll be gracious in defeat, nicities don't often come from that side of the political spectrum.

  11. I see not much difference in whats occurring in Thailand as to whats occurring in France or the US. Although the core problems are different, the basic idea is to ignore the law and let the mob set the rules. The idea is from the left and supported by unions and academica as well as easily swayed impressionable youth. Just a way to try to grab power without being elected to it.

Difference of opinion, healthy debate, any reasonable discourse, whether print audio or visual media is to be desired a gathering of mobs whether they be political or lynch that accomblish little in my mind.

  12. [quote name='massein'

I think it was a good plan they could of got out of the heat into the AC every couple of hours

but i guess the hi so ppl don't want common ppl interloping in there space

The pad should of not been so vocal about the plans, now they have no where to go

    [/quote

If I owned the center I'd close it. You'd want untold thousands of people rambling around the center, not purchasing anything much, but utilizing facilities that aren't built to handle that size of crowd. Your toliet facilities would be sorely pressed for the first few hours, before a breakdown would occur. Theft would be rampart, not so much from the political crowd but from those that take advantage of situations that are presented to them in large crowds. The buildings themselves would show a definite abuse from hordes. Its simply more economical to close than cleanup and repair and replace. It has nothing to do with the common people, just common sense.

  13. Northern cyprus for starters. Its well known in the london underworld that this is the new costa del sol..Northern Cyprus is not recognised as a country by the UK so there is no extradition treaty in place!!!

If you don't mind the long haul flight, why not try columbia??

Columbia? :D probably safer at home in the nick. :o

i think ill go for northern cyprus if the need ever arises!!! :D

thanks for the reply btw. :D

Colombia regularily sends criminals back to the US, and I think greasers is a pretty derogative term for its citizens. I will say Colombia has some of the worst people that walk this planet, but also has some of the kindest folk that you could ever meet.. People that I call my family, though not by blood

  14. Now I knowe it bad for to mention other websites here so I will be obtuse about it except to say its a weekly column published from Bangkok.

The opening piece is nothoing but an advertorial for a new mobile telephone spying product and in this case its marketed at spying on Thai girls.

Now leaving out the moral factor for a while just what is the law in Thailand regarding this?

There has recently been a fuss in the UK about the Met Commissioner of Police recording calls and there are grey area's regarding illegality I an lead to beleive.

The other question is the article implies this is a brand new system developed for "Road Warriors" in the UK but the developers have seen another revenue channel in Thailand spying on partners.

Given this is brand new I would then have to question the "Testemonials" on the site - if they are made up they would be illegal in many countries but then again TIT

Kinda like businesses spying on their employees, but if its your phone I guess you can do what ya want, no matter who is using it.

I think the UK might be the lead for spying on its citizens in the western world. Their system of cameras is tops in the world. Their use of spy satelites by the building dept. to get their revenue from people adding on to their homes without a permit is cutting edge. As I don't live there, I really don't know what else is occurring, but I'd assume alot.

  15. Hi, I'm new and ignorant, but I was wondering if people know of a place where I can watch baseball games here in Chiangmai. I used to have the Chiangmai cable package, but found it fairly worthless for sports anyway, so I dropped it.

The World Baseball Classic games on are on this weekend, and I'd like to watch one ("but why do they call it the world series when it's just Americans?" people love to ask. Ok, now, well, here's the WBC and America is already knocked out.). Anyone know of a bar that's sympathetic to American sporting interests? I doubt it will conflict with Chelsea or whoever anyhow...

    Thanks in advance.

MLB.com offers a streaming package $80 per season all 2400 games. Not sure how it'll stream there, but the WBC is free so you might give it a look. I think they also offer free radio to all games as well as live box scores.

  16. I'm so tired of the OMG... Global Warming Nonsense. I wish they would just publish all of the statistics that everyone has gathered and not just the one's that champion their own cause. Has anyone ever bothered to actually check their stats or look at some of the lesser known studies? Less than 4% of our Glaciers are melting world wide, most are actually growing. The water level world wide hasn't increased by more than 1/4" on a worldwide average in 100 years. Global temperature rise, some places are warming and some are cooling and not by strictly north and south regions. Most of this is cyclical for our world.

Has anyone noticed that this Global Warming Terror only started after the fall of the Berlin Wall? The world has to have a world threat to keep the masses in check... they have to divert our attention away from what the world governors are doing and focus it on a world threat. Well the cold war is past... Now we have to worry about either drowning, freezing to death or winding up on a planet that is total sahara. The Global Warming Guru's can't even agree on what will happen. Except that we'll all die and we'd better be very afraid. I'm afraid of them...

Just crap. Can you develop and give some proofs, links or some evidence Mr.professor. The world is in danger, believe it or not. My homecountry is Switzerland and I live right in the middle of the mountains, I can tell you that the glaciers are not growing, but melting. And I can bring proofs in photographies.

    --------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Yahoo a couple of days back had a story about Mammoths, and why they died out. Global warming. That was 10,000 years back.

1500 BC The weather in Scandinavia turned from warm and dry to cold, causing the people there to move southward into northern Europe and becoming a series of tribes loosely called teutonic among other names. Global cooling

1000 AD the weather turns cold once again, Greenland fails as the once warm clime becomes cold. Global cooling

The present day, the temperature has gone up 1 degree over the last century. Global warming

You get the idea? Climate is cyclic, we have no say on what the sun is doing, and its a bit hotter, so the earth gets a bit warmer. Big volcano, gets a bit cooler here, two very cool years after Krakatoa. l I say look at historical and geologic evidence before believing the same dunderheads whom were predicting a new ice age in the early 1970's.

  17. 'Bloody hel_l' UK bans Aussie tourism ads

After watching the drivel on Oz TV for a year - where programmes seemingly interupt the adverts! Any criticism of British TV by an OZ is totally outlandish! So we dont want your swearing!! At least we have balanced, intelligent world class productions.

The BBC is the envy of the world for a reason!!!!!!!!!!

I don't envy the BBC, maybe thirty years ago, but not now.

  18. Facts about the 1500's

Most people got married in June, because they took their yearly bath in May and were still smelling pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.

Hence the custom of carrying a bouquet when getting married.

Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty, you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water"

  19. "The U.N. {insert U.S.} is not my father."

The UN isn't all that popular in the US., I wish the US would drop outta it. The UN could move its headquarters to Haiti. They then could transform Haiti into a paradise utiling all of the diplomatic skills that chair that august body, thus showing the world they are capable and viable.
