Northern cyprus for starters. Its well known in the london underworld that this is the new costa del sol..Northern Cyprus is not recognised as a country by the UK so there is no extradition treaty in place!!!
If you don't mind the long haul flight, why not try columbia??
Columbia?
probably safer at home in the nick.
i think ill go for northern cyprus if the need ever arises!!!
thanks for the reply btw.
Colombia regularily sends criminals back to the US, and I think greasers is a pretty derogative term for its citizens. I will say Colombia has some of the worst people that walk this planet, but also has some of the kindest folk that you could ever meet.. People that I call my family, though not by blood

Now I knowe it bad for to mention other websites here so I will be obtuse about it except to say its a weekly column published from Bangkok.
The opening piece is nothoing but an advertorial for a new mobile telephone spying product and in this case its marketed at spying on Thai girls.
Now leaving out the moral factor for a while just what is the law in Thailand regarding this?
There has recently been a fuss in the UK about the Met Commissioner of Police recording calls and there are grey area's regarding illegality I an lead to beleive.
The other question is the article implies this is a brand new system developed for "Road Warriors" in the UK but the developers have seen another revenue channel in Thailand spying on partners.
Given this is brand new I would then have to question the "Testemonials" on the site - if they are made up they would be illegal in many countries but then again TIT
Kinda like businesses spying on their employees, but if its your phone I guess you can do what ya want, no matter who is using it.
I think the UK might be the lead for spying on its citizens in the western world. Their system of cameras is tops in the world. Their use of spy satelites by the building dept. to get their revenue from people adding on to their homes without a permit is cutting edge. As I don't live there, I really don't know what else is occurring, but I'd assume alot.

Hi, I'm new and ignorant, but I was wondering if people know of a place where I can watch baseball games here in Chiangmai. I used to have the Chiangmai cable package, but found it fairly worthless for sports anyway, so I dropped it.
The World Baseball Classic games on are on this weekend, and I'd like to watch one ("but why do they call it the world series when it's just Americans?" people love to ask. Ok, now, well, here's the WBC and America is already knocked out.). Anyone know of a bar that's sympathetic to American sporting interests? I doubt it will conflict with Chelsea or whoever anyhow...
Thanks in advance.
MLB.com offers a streaming package $80 per season all 2400 games. Not sure how it'll stream there, but the WBC is free so you might give it a look. I think they also offer free radio to all games as well as live box scores.

I'm so tired of the OMG... Global Warming Nonsense. I wish they would just publish all of the statistics that everyone has gathered and not just the one's that champion their own cause. Has anyone ever bothered to actually check their stats or look at some of the lesser known studies? Less than 4% of our Glaciers are melting world wide, most are actually growing. The water level world wide hasn't increased by more than 1/4" on a worldwide average in 100 years. Global temperature rise, some places are warming and some are cooling and not by strictly north and south regions. Most of this is cyclical for our world.
Has anyone noticed that this Global Warming Terror only started after the fall of the Berlin Wall? The world has to have a world threat to keep the masses in check... they have to divert our attention away from what the world governors are doing and focus it on a world threat. Well the cold war is past... Now we have to worry about either drowning, freezing to death or winding up on a planet that is total sahara. The Global Warming Guru's can't even agree on what will happen. Except that we'll all die and we'd better be very afraid. I'm afraid of them...
Just crap. Can you develop and give some proofs, links or some evidence Mr.professor. The world is in danger, believe it or not. My homecountry is Switzerland and I live right in the middle of the mountains, I can tell you that the glaciers are not growing, but melting. And I can bring proofs in photographies.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Yahoo a couple of days back had a story about Mammoths, and why they died out. Global warming. That was 10,000 years back.
1500 BC The weather in Scandinavia turned from warm and dry to cold, causing the people there to move southward into northern Europe and becoming a series of tribes loosely called teutonic among other names. Global cooling
1000 AD the weather turns cold once again, Greenland fails as the once warm clime becomes cold. Global cooling
The present day, the temperature has gone up 1 degree over the last century. Global warming
You get the idea? Climate is cyclic, we have no say on what the sun is doing, and its a bit hotter, so the earth gets a bit warmer. Big volcano, gets a bit cooler here, two very cool years after Krakatoa. l I say look at historical and geologic evidence before believing the same dunderheads whom were predicting a new ice age in the early 1970's.

'Bloody hel_l' UK bans Aussie tourism ads
After watching the drivel on Oz TV for a year - where programmes seemingly interupt the adverts! Any criticism of British TV by an OZ is totally outlandish! So we dont want your swearing!! At least we have balanced, intelligent world class productions.
The BBC is the envy of the world for a reason!!!!!!!!!!
I don't envy the BBC, maybe thirty years ago, but not now.

Facts about the 1500's
Most people got married in June, because they took their yearly bath in May and were still smelling pretty good by June. However, they were starting to smell, so brides carried a bouquet of flowers to hide the body odor.
Hence the custom of carrying a bouquet when getting married.
Baths consisted of a big tub filled with hot water. The man of the house had the privilege of the nice clean water, then all the other sons and men, then the women and finally the children. Last of all the babies. By then the water was so dirty, you could actually lose someone in it. Hence the saying "Don't throw the baby out with the bath water"

"The U.N. {insert U.S.} is not my father."
The UN isn't all that popular in the US., I wish the US would drop outta it. The UN could move its headquarters to Haiti. They then could transform Haiti into a paradise utiling all of the diplomatic skills that chair that august body, thus showing the world they are capable and viable.

Thaksin flees the capital . . . and reality
Sums it all up really, reality ends at the Bangkok City Limits. The views and votes of the population beyond count for nothing.
As the majority of people don't live in Bangkok, don't they count as part of the population? Or do only democratic voters count as people?

Most people don't realize just how bad the pollution is in Chiang Mai and the damage it does to ones health.
Example: The GLOBOCAN 2000 worldwide average rates for lung cancer is 23.8 cases per 100,000. In Chiang Mai, the Thai Provincial Public Health Office had a 2002 rate for lung cancer at 138.87 cases per 100,000. That is almost 6 times higher than the world average.
On top of that, in 2003 there were 704,800 cases of respiratory diseases recorded and the numbers are rising.
Besides cancer, recent reports have shown a direct link to air pollution to asthma and heart disease as well. The damage toxic air does to arteries in addition to increasing inflammation within the body is well documented.
So don't be surprised when your eyes begin to water, your nose begins to run, you get that constant cough or pressure on your chest, or get some other mysterious disease that has yet to be diagnosed. It's just that healthy Chiang Mai mountain air that is filling your lungs 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
Just outta curiousity what are the radon readings in Chiang Mai. seems like an incredible amount of cancer rates for air pollution to be the sole or even main culprit.

"Brothers of Luzifer", "apostolic" ... LOL! You do come up with funny shit.[/size]
He who would laugh at the potential of his own fate does not understand how little impact he really has in effecting his own fate. They win, these brothers of Lucifer and your fate will be apostolic beyond ever grin you ever had unless you are they that win that is.

The most brilliant, informative and intelligent post I have ever seen on the subject, well said.
Its been a pleasure to read these posts, intelligent and well researched. I want a daily column in my newspaper.

when the media is stifled, alleged drug dealers are sumarily executed,
votes bought-n-sold, checks and balances thwarted, etc.,
it is not clear that Thailand even classifies as a real democracy.
I beg to differ. In the US the democratic party finds it convient to pay voters for their time. why in Chicago even the dead have been voting democratic for years.

Well, it's bloody cold in Europe right now and I don't feel like I would enjoy a daily shower here, although I would stink less.
When Mr. tourist arrives in Bangkok he does not realise he needs to clean the sweat off from time to time, that simple.
And I never saw a topless bathing beauty around Chumpon's beaches
I been in Europe on some bloody cold days, and its a rare day I don't shower at least twice. Can't imagine not feeling clean leaving my residence or climbing into my bed.

Perhaps before using your favorite word,"racist" you should look up its meaning as your usage is tiring and incorrect. The use of the word racist is meant only to promote sympathy for your remarks. that it doesn't deserve. Actually your bias does a diservice to many of your fellow Islamists, those of eastern euro descent as well as Indonesians, subsaharans, the vast majority of those of the Islamic faith, by not including them within the scope of Islam, you show your own bigotry toward your own religion. So please look up racist, before you use it.
As for traveling to Islamic countries, been there, done that and just have no desire to return to any of them.
Theres always been trouble in Islamic countries, that why instead of nations made up of laws binding people together, you have systems of warlords vying for power within geographic boundaries. Hatred among Muslims, hatred of infidels, it doesn't matter, hatred is a driving force of Islam. Power gained by force is always the norm, its a tribalist society. Rule by warlords.
Counties that have progressed economically no longer have tribalist societies, but have banded together for a common goal regardless of what immigration has taken place into them. Islamic countries where the populace are mostly muslim tend to be back water cesspools unless they have oil money, and then that doesn't always trickle back into their population ie Iran, Iraq
Nothing keeps Muslims from suceeding in this world more than their religion and its "ideals"
Oh, my apologies for the incorrect term i used. Is calling you bigots more suitable?
And as to your speculation on my religion, i believe that i have to dissappoint you, i have been born a protestant, never was confirmed though as even at that age i did not trust any organised religion.
As to hate, start cleaning your own houses first. The posts here from you rednecks are some of the most hateful things i have come across, including the one that advocates to "wipe them all out", on a par with the "Islamic terrorists" you hate so much.
The rest of you pseudo anthropoligist babble does not even warrant any answer other than that you are in dire need of a few good books. Maybe start first with "Winnie the Poo" and work your way up.
And yes, i have been in many Islamic countries, some i liked less, some more, and of some i have very fond memories. Especially one where i would have died for lack of food and money would it not have been for the very gracious Islamic hospitality that i was given.
Calling the majority of posters on the subject "realists" would certainly be closer to accurate rather than bigoted. Truth is always difficult for those with an agenda to accept. Your story of a compassionate Muslim doen't surprise me, but it does show a lack of judgement on your part for allowing yourself to be in a position in a foriegn country to possibly die from an obvious bad decision on your part. So I understand somewhat your protective attitute.
I can renounce the religion, I can denounce the purveyors of violence associated with that religion, I can assail the Imans who preach intolerance and violence and not be bigoted. I've not said kill one innocent soul anywhere. I have said Islam as a religion condones all that has happened, takes offense at the slightest slur but sees absolutely nothing really wrong in the actions that adherents do in the name of Allah. And what I say will only be a truthful observation, not a bigoted attack. I will be showing a bias, but we're all biased in many things.
Next month I'll have three Maylay Muslims over to my home for dinner as their here for a conference. we get along or they wouldn't be a guest in my home, as I've nothing but a social interaction with these folk
. One will drink copious amounts of alcohol, ( the others won't) while telling me I haven't given Islam a fair shake. while I'll ask him what has he said or done at the Mosque to denounce whats occurring in Islam as a whole and particulary the south of Thailand. His sister and her husband, will be quiet on this subject.
The Islamic talk will die out, and we'll talk about Ipoh (a mainly chinese city) when our we coming to visit them in KL, hows so and so. They'll depart the next day and we'll see each other in a year or two. Nothing will change, they'll still hate a people (Jewish) they don't really interact with or know, for a spurious cause.
Isreal as a people have inhabited their land for three thousand years, twice as long as theres been a religion of Islam. Islam never totally removed Jews from living there, only reduced the number. So who has the better historical claim? Militarily the Jews kicked butt and only UN intervention stopped them from taking the whole region in the small series of wars. Gotta hurt to have the numbers but not the ability to use them.
I've read Winnie the Pooh, tigger rocks.

Incorrect and naive thinking on your part. Anti-west sentiment was there before and would be there after. Appeasement only worsens the problems and this has been proven over and over through out history.
With the appeasement remark i do hope you don't mean Chamberlain as this would open another huge can of worms, which carries rather uncomfortable similarities to todays situation... IBM, Ford, Standard Oil, etc...
Anyhow, roots of todays Islamic terrorism lie in the US, Saudi and Paksithani built up of those jihadis. Justification of those terrorists in the Islamic world lies largely in the US presence on their holy soil, and that presence came long before 9/11.
The sandpit was occupied by the US due to the lust for cheap oil, collaborating with the most corrupt royal house of Saud, which had in turn to appease their own Wahabit mullahs by supporting their radical causes in the whole islamic world.
If you guys would stop salivating over your racist and war-mongering posts, and instead take the time to read books about the subject, maybe even travel to the affected areas, then you might find out that all these people on both sides get killed because of the megalomaniac policies of a few. The few that have always profited from the sacrifice of the stupid and gullible, and still are profiting.

ABSENT Labor MP Robert Poole has resigned as the Member for Gaven, effective immediately.
Premier Peter Beattie told State Parliament he had received Mr Poole's written resignation from Thailand.
A former police officer and union organiser, Mr Poole has been dubbed the "Invisible Man" by constituents and the "Member for Thailand" by the opposition for his extended absences in Thailand where his wife and two young sons live.

Though any terrorist acts have so far been confined to Xingjian province, it is perfectly feasible that there could be willing jihadists in most parts of China. I am sure however, that they are generally dissuaded by the certain knowledge that retribution would be swift and merciless. The Chinese Communist Party leadership makes Taksin look like a rank amateur in comparison.
The world be much more benign place if the western world would treat Islamists the same way.

The first notion you need to disabuse yourselves of, is the fallacy that my country, Thailand, is a democracy. It is not.
No populace that is as uneducated about the value of enfranchisement as the Thai rural poor can be regarded as a democratic constituency. They are many years from understanding the value and meaning of democracy, or the obligations that come with their ability to vote.
................................................................................
.............................................................
We've many poor undereducated people in our country that know the value of their vote, you keep voting for those candidates you think will give you the most same same in Thailand. Why put down your own people
................................................................................
..............................................................
Thai Ruk Thai is the largest, richest organisation ever to hit the Thai political scene. Most of those in high places there are many-times disgraced dinosaurs of Thai politics. The only successes they have enjoyed have been lining their own pockets over many incarnations.
Let us look at some of the many vaunted “successes” of TRT’s governance:
The 30 Bt. medical scheme. Every hospital involved is crying foul and desperate to find the funds to continue in operation.
................................................................................
...............................................................
Same same here, public hospitals who don't even get their $.75 cents from patient toward operating cost complain, sure its a hassle getting money from the goverment, but they've been operating for many years, paying their workers, buying supoplies and taking care of their patients. No hospital can turn an emergency away regardless of ability to pay. Non emergencies and continued care go towards the public hospitals. Our southern borders states are inudated with hispanics that clog up hospitals and use others monies to pay. yet manage to stay in business. A problem Thailand doesn't have. Hospitals that take care of public patients always complain and with good reason, its the nature of the beast, all goverment agencies always complain to obtain greater funding .
................................................................................
..............................................................
The 1 M-Bt. Village fund. A blatant act of bribing and purchasing votes from the rural population, possible only through legal loopholes. Most individual beneficiaries of these funds are now deeper in debt than they ever were before. They have to repay their loans at the end of each year. To do so, they need to borrow, at exorbitant rates, from local leeches, repay the loan and then hope they can re-borrow at the start of the new year, leaving the 20-50% “leech fee” to be repaid over time.
The multiple mega-projects are al, without exception, ill conceived and riddled with corruption.
Dinosaurs lining their personal nests at the cost of you, me and all the other citizens of our potentially great Kingdom.
................................................................................
.........................................................
As anywhere when you borrow money, you need to repay. Many whom have thought out what they needed to borrow, to obtain what goal, and how they could repay with a reasonable certainly do well. Those who borrow just to get money, without a real idea of how to repay, get in trouble. Not a Thai problem but a human problem. Many here owe credit card companies huge sums and pay outrageous interest legally to the issueing banks. They went for instant gratification in most cases, and now are paying the cost. I've credit cards for convience, but pay balance monthly, and actually make a few bucks doing this.
................................................................................
............................................................
The last "election" was won, not through a "democratic process" but through corruption, fraud and practices that would declare any Western, (apart from, perhaps, the USA) poll invalid and have the perpetuators sent away at his Majesty’s pleasure for appreciable prison sentences.
................................................................................
.................................................................
T The USAs elections were(are) fraudulent. Spoken like a true democrat. The ones crying foul (and I assume you refer to the 2000 election) were democrats and as it be shown on this board many titimes the claim is baseless, but a useful tool by demo leaders for explaining why they lost the election to their constituents, rather than saying we haven't a clue.
................................................................................
..............................................................
Throughout most of the rural areas, voters, in deep hock to the state through the 1M-Bt. village fund, were told their loans would be called in if TRT failed to win their local seat. Local officials, Poo-Yai Baan and others, were told they would lose their jobs. Those who could not be threatened into giving their “Free” vote to TRT were bribed in other ways. The result, a landslide.
This next election, if it went ahead normally, would be no different. No opposition party could possibly ever win on this, possibly the least flat playing field on the planet.
................................................................................
.............................................................
To you the only election results that you would accept would be a demo victory, which would of course have been election without fraud, while if the opposition wins its fraudulent. Typical democratic thought, only we can lead well.
I do not like Thaksin but he is at least democratically elected!
Democratically elected?
My partner's familly in far Issan got 100 baht per person to vote for the candidate of the opposition last time, and then 200 to vote for Thaksin....

Truly a democratic election, vote for who will give you the most
