So you broke the law and got away with it - well done.

I fail to understand why so many people are afraid to report where they are staying in Thailand.

It used to be the TM 6 card but that did not work. It relied on the honesty of the traveller.

Now it is the TM 30.

Photo id is OK on domestic flights.

But you do have to tell them your Nationality. (It's not on the DL.)

I once boarded a flight using a Tarongo zoo pass.

He did not break the law, the hotels have the duty to report customers.

If you can avoid being reported to 'checked in' at a hotel you can save yourself the trouble of re-reporting yourself when you're home, for the immigration office that insist on it

say you had a weekend away and the hotel reported you moved there say in Phuket or whatever and you didn't report that you 'moved' back to your usual place, would this be a problem when you present the initial TM30 at immigration that might not match where they had you last in their system?

It would depend on waht immigration office. Arriving back in Pattaya and a bike tour i have never reported i am back and never had an issue.

My 5 year Thai motorbike licence ends this Sep 2024. But I probably leave well before that, maybe 3 months before...

Then back again in the winter, could even be early 2025.

Now I rather put off renewing if I can - kick the ball as far as it goes... lol...!

But any issue renewing after a few months of expiry...? Any penalties or problem there, even after 5 or 6 months..., I don't have to start from scratch or anything ...!? 🤔

Or is it much better to go and do it before expiry, how far ahead can I go and renew, even 4 or 5 months ahead is possible ...?

Renew late and get 6 years license

To bad the other bike wasn't knocked into shape before the trip. Nice ride, never made it that far south only as far as HuaHin on my PCX finally parked it when to much problem with leg. I was riding around Surin a few years back and noticed a young guy following me. Pulled into Hotel parking and he came in behind me. The only thing out of his mouth was did you ride all the way from Chiang Mai to Suring and I said sure did, give it a try someday. He took off after giving me his Phone number if I had any problems. Nice kid.

The Vespa was running ok, when we we left, it became apparent it was not though. Top marks to Mike for cracking on and sorting and joining me with Al.

  5. Day 34. Kapoe to Chumphon.

Today we intended to ride Ranong Canyon on our way to Chumphon. I mentioned to Al I don’t know this track at all and as Al was riding a road bike we would check how we felt with the track conditions as we rode.

The track as far as went was not difficult but it was not enjoyable riding. Al and I decided we were riding too slowly and we did not know how long it should take. At 9am the weather was already very hot and we decided to call it a day.

Riding back we met some locals who said it was only an hour to the end of the track, that seems very unlikely. Measuring it on Gaia later we missed 17.5km. So it seems the locals were right.

We ended up looping around until we arrived at Ranong Canyon, here.

Taking the scenic route to Chumphon and keeping to the west side of the mountains I spotted a mountain with a hole in it, so I rode down a side road to take a photo, here.

We then rode into Chumphon City, 237 km ride.

  6. Day 32. Phuket to Khao Lak

Today was an easy ride north to Khao Lak. Our first stop was Natai Beach and Pier, here.

Next was Bor Dan Beach, here.

On the way here my foot pegs and crash bars came loose and needed new bolts holding the engine guard and crash bars fitted, great for 100 baht.
