    1149 is a jewel.

Day 1 slept on the Mit just N of Korat.
    Day 2 N of UdonTani the top-box,
rack, and aft 8” of tail fell off,
    tethered by a bungee.
Mud guard w/ tag, ripped off.
    ceeber150 /63,xxx km.
Years of box vibration had caused bilateral weld failure
where the rails attached the rear stamping
holding for lights, seat latch, hand-hold mount & rear fairing.
    Oh my.   So …
Decided to unbolt the rack  w/ box
    hide them in bushes,
and head to the next town where,
the first little bike shop on  the left
welded stuff  back together for 50baht.
Rode back and retrieved box &
     N to NongKhai
    w/ license plate stowed.
Rode 2 weeks w/o plate on display
Including military check-point near Burmese border.

Yes, but go clockwise to the Akha village R1134 and keep going clockwise is hardly used, i so only farmers, off road up to the checkpoint then a wonderful ride along the ridge. Google maps say no way through, but easy riding.

Nice to ride with you again :)

  3. Today I went looking for some new tracks, but my first stop was at Wat Phra That Si Wiang Mun.

I then carried on riding west before south at Ban Mai Charoen and on to Ban A Mae.

From here it was sandy and rocky tracks with stream crossings until I was told by a local farmer that I could not continue as it was very difficult and steep, here.

He was a nice guy and after chatting shook my hand and said “God bless you.” Obviously a Christian Hill Tribe family.

  5. Today my planned ride around the countryside east of Chiang Rai was cut short by rain that appeared from behind the mountains and eventually caught up with me.

My first stop was at Doi Pha Chang, which is a mountain in the middle of rice fields with a small road around it.

    https://maps.app.goo.gl/8gJfM4wsrMaKf4BR8

Next I rode on to Mae Tak Reservoir

    https://maps.app.goo.gl/EqqK7Ep2ncw56YFx5

It was here I could see the incoming rain but I carried on hoping to miss it. It caught up with me near Nong Luang Reservoir and I returned to Chiang Rai.
