Tipped for completion in 2023, passengers using the high speed train will be able to travel from Bangkok to U-Tapao in Rayong in just under one hour.
The high speed train line will also connect Bangkok with Nong Khai, where passengers will be able to travel from the capital to Thailand’s northeast border with Laos in just three hours
Sorry but this is just a pipe dream
You hit the nail on the head there

I've had some hit & misses with beef steak purchases here so can a dedicated steak man point me in the right direction to buy top notch steak in town please?
I know Tops in Central is off the chart but so are their prices so a bargain would not go amiss (DM me with this so it's kept on the QT)

Does anyone know of a decent gardener from around the Ban Ampur/Ban Saray area looking for work?

I've used this company before owned by a Scandi fella.
Very clean & very secure with fingerprint access required to enter certain areas.
They have whole lockups that you can park your vehicle in front of & load straight in or smaller deposit boxes of various sizes in the main building accessed by lift with trolleys supplied.

Johng is partially correct. The initial few Kms infrastructure work is substantially complete.
The second civil contract of 11km is well over half built.
There are several Civil Contracts bid. Many ready to go. Some will be let in the next few weeks.
Things were delayed for a few reasons, covid being one of them. The other most big delay was getting the EIA issues cleared which I understand has now been done and the EIA is/will be approved.
FYI, please note that the news on the contract signed was for the rail systems, by the Chinese.
The infrastructure civil works is being built by Thai Contractors.Getting more of the Civil Construction underway will be a beneffit in jobs for Thais.
Don't you mean a benefit in jobs for Cambodian, Buremese etc instead?

That's exactly what the missus told me.
I had no issues either way over the last few days on trains.

Thanks Champers for the reply.
I have never had a problem either. It is just since Covid-19 I check a lot of things. I guess the bus will only be half full due to social distancing - not sure if that makes a difference though as I suspect there are a LOT less people travelling around now anyway.
Much like the social distancing on the baht buses in town?

No, real ones. Apparently there's an oversupply. Grab 'em while cheap. I made three with garlic butter in oven, delish.
Very irresponsible reply, please remove it immediately as I can't get up there for a few days.
There may be none left ????

I have a bit of running around to do in town tomorrow & need to go back forth from Phaya Thai to Chong Nonsi using the trains so does anyone know if there any planned protests that may mean the trains aren't running properly?

Well, while not exacly prawns, Naklua fishmarket sells lobsters at 500 baht each now. Yummy. The price of kung must also come down, makes no sense when there's a surplus.
Rock lobsters?

"Freshwater" is not really accurate because it's far from fresh plus with commercially mono-cultured farming a ton of antibiotics are used.

CR never closed except during lockdown.
Same owner & key management for years & a few proper old Pattaya heads frequent it, well run & you never have to worry about padding plus they have a loyalty scheme so the more you spend is noted & will increase your bar-bill discount (I understand that other bills that you may decide to pay also go towards this discount)
Sue's Place is still ticking along & you'll pass it odd time with decent groups of US faces having a few & telling war stories.

Update for @HashBrownHarry - Near as I could tell, the place you mentioned near Walking Street is gone. I looked all up & down that area; lots of stores closed, apparently permanently.
I will have to turn to Plan G, after A-F have not worked out. I'll check out the FB group mentioned above. It never re-opened after the lockdown, a lot on that stretch didn't including 7/11s.
No one much walked around there except indians & arabs or persians who are all gone.

2 of mine went to Tara but we've moved.
Great school & James Swan the headmaster really has his eyes on the prize & runs a very good school with great teachers.
Sports facilities are excellent but you know that already.
Good location on the Darkside & remote enough to feel like it's in the countryside as there are many rai of farmland behind it.
If you can afford it then I would recommend Tara.

Does anyone know where the local tax office for the Pattaya area is?
Nothing comes up on gmaps:
Bang Lamung 2 Area Revenue Branch Office
404 Moo 12, Tambon Nong Prue, Amphoe Bang Lamung, Chon Buri 20150(This is from the revenue dept's own website)

Is that the leaf the old dears up in the villages wrap around those red beans to chew the spit red gloop all over the shop?

I just want to give you an update. After this great police show the bars cared about the legal closing times for 2 nights. After this the bars did not care again and I expect the same for the next nights. So a great show of the police for obviously absolutely nothing. I have no idea why the police did this if in the end they don't REALLY care. Otherwise the bars wouldn't do again what they want. It is easy to see and often to hear which bar is still open after the legal closing times - if you really want...
Apparently the top brass & some navy bods where paying a visit so the old bill made sure everything was locked up nice & tight.

Do you socialise with the bar owners or the people who lease the bars as there is a big difference?
Maybe you could ask the police that you socialise with what the major difference is between the two as they would definitely know ????
You should take a moment to admire the saving skills of senior officers around town as their wages are not very impressive relatively although some have great apparent entrepreneurial skills
A lot of the bars & clubs that have managed to stay afloat have some generous backers which is the whole point of this tread, closures of bars etc.
I'm not accusing anyone of anything just making some comment about some observations I've made close quarters around this town.

They are the mafia here.
There is no other version, no Thai/Sicilian tie up.
No little crews sipping expressos & discussing the meet with the Bangkok families.
If you tread the line then you will get attention & if you cross it then you most definitely will sooner or later.
Higher up then you will most likely need 'advice' from someone with military knowledge.
It's very hard to be a real fiscal success here without the 'help of a local partner'.
There may be cases that slipped through the net but for the most part it's a cost to business.

The new Glasshouse in Naklua should do them but Cafe des Amis in Pratamnak most certainly will.
I always get brutal hangovers from them & also Manhattans

Best shop for steak

You can actually cook steak from frozen & there's some evidence that freezing it helps to tenderize it as when water freezes it expands so breaking the cells walls in the meat.
It is one reason you can't freeze & defrost fresh tomatoes as they turn to mush.
Cook the frozen steak at a lower heat & use a probe thermometer to check that the internal temperature of your steak has risen to the required doneness.
