I bought a lovely pair of Bally driving shoes in their Siam Sq shop.
Pricey but around what you would pay in London or Rome

An interesting retort to the new lockdowns in Austria here from a Scottish journalist & broadcaster:

Let her watch english kiddies shows on Youtube. GF's daughter used to watch Octonauts, Peppa Pig and Horrid Henry.
Be aware, watching too much US based stuff. They can end up picking up a US accent.
Peppa Pig is very good for young children as her diction is faultless.
Also look out for Mr Tumble.

Smoking is addictive but it is not contagious. Many, many places do not allow the use of tobacco.
Smoking is really not comparable to an infectious viral disease.
It is Scott when you just compare deaths.
Can you name any countries where tobacco use is illegal?
Chewing tobacco increases mouth cancers although that is very much on the wane although there has been a fashion for snuff lately in some quarters but too small for it to count on any scale.

my reply should read MANSTONS.....
The fella behind Manstons has a nice little bar in Bang Saray in a side soi just before the La Taverna restaurant (also very good).
A new bar called the Bang Saray Tavern has also opened on the same soi & seems popular with fellas drinking copious mugs of tea & coffee lately.
All that caffeine will make it difficult to get a decent nights kip surely

Can anyone explain why Gibraltar is threatening to lock down & it has the highest vaccination percentage on the planet?
Also may I bring up the subject of attacks on unvaxxed people filling up ICU beds & ask if we know how many beds are filled with smokers?
I don't hear any government or political party in the world saying that they will ban smokers from working or going to social events & yet smoking is a real choice whereas catching a virus is not for the most part.
Will that only happen when the tax revenues from tobacco don't meet the costs to health care?
Some countries are saying that they will make these vaccinations compulsory next year so will they also ban smoking?
Disclaimer: I'm double jabbed & used to chain smoke until I gave up 20 years ago.

There have been 21 education ministers in the last 18 years.
The previous education minister is a convicted felon currently out on bail. He was educated in the U.S.
The MoE "spends" a massive amount per student. With declining results. I think the 2020 budget was close to 480 BILLION baht. Probably fewer than 15 satang of each baht reaches students.
Thai teachers are extended an endless supply of loans and are massively in debt (as a group). They need to get bailed out about as often as farmers.
So many "Thai-style" functions, from government to democracy to education to flag carrier, are merely meant to look good, and provide for graft and corruption on an epic scale.
Thai education is not in reverse. It's already rolled backwards, off a cliff, lays in flames at the bottom of the ravine, while the driver has done a runner after claiming "brake failure".
The goal of education here is to instill fear, respect and subservience. The last thing they want is an educated populace, who then start asking pesky questions. Been there, done that. The PtB have co-opted the social system, including education which is beyond repair, as was their goal.
In theory they should have resumed formal education where they left off, but that will NEVER happen.
Well said sir!
I have no idea what they will do with hoards of farm workers when farm work becomes completely mechanised or the hoards of factory workers when robots & AI take over that industry.

The problem I have here is that there just doesn't seem to be good quality cotton for shirts.
Whenever I have got them made they look great but have a poly mix running through the weave so they don't breathe properly.
The collars blow after a few washes & then the material develops those little balls in areas of use & the same for the suits as the cuffs wear quickly.
If you only want one for the odd occasion then fine but I find they don't hold up to regular use.
Linen is great but you dishevelled in no time whatsoever.
Sikhs seem to control the importation of the material that's if it's actually imported from Italy as they insist but I am quite cynical of claims of authenticity over here.
Over the years I have had maybe 20 shirts, 3 suits some sports jackets with maybe a dozen pairs of trousers (the backsides go shiny in no time) & 20 odd pairs of shorts.
Many taylors shops have gone & won't be back but the business was struggling anyway as the younger generation don't really wear formal clothing much anymore & that includes shoes.
When was the last time anyone saw a shoe shine boy?
They used to be everywhere.
I had a pair of my leather sandels cleaned the last time the bars were open by a lad in LK but he also polished the leather on the inside which I didn't find out until I got home & took my sandels off to see my feet were pitch black, it took a week of scrubbing to get the last of the stain off.

Thanks to all the posters and their recommendations. I've tried almost all of them with the exception of three so my sausage hunt begins today.
If all else fails I'll import my favorites from NZ. Probably cost 1,000B per snag but I'm suffering withdrawal symptoms so the hell with the cost.
Cheers.

#1 - First Class Insurance
#2 - Stop worrying
Everybody knows many have no insurance, no money, they can not pay you.
So, Cover Your Ah Sole - in this as in all things
Exactly this.
There's a good reason that it's called bail insurance in some quarters.

we want to test before heading on a road trip to see yaai, and would rather do it at home than go to a hospitalThat's exactly what I do as I don't want to spend a few weeks in the hospital cells just because I test positive.
False positives are not unusual so get a few tests when buying & keep them in the fridge.
If you test yourself positive then test again.

I need to get my children tested so their school can reopen next week.
We have been asked for ATK tests which are antigen rapid tests & differ from PCR tests.
They must be done at a clinic that offers certificates to prove authenticity so can anyone point me in the right direction as this needs to done before Monday?
