  1. In Pattaya particularly in town west of Sukhumvit they are doing all the things as outlined. I went with the family to Big C Extra and we weren't able to eat together due to social distancing so we decided to try a local place no problem eating together nor sharing.

On the way home we drove around Lake Maphrachan it was a mad house vehicle parked everywhere no social distancing at all, foot carts with people waiting for their food, people drinking everywhere it was as they were celebrating the virus was over on the Pong side of the Lake they were even having a full soccer game being played with attendance this was right in front of the police station.

This was a clear violation that there is no rules outside of the main city interesting if there will be a uptick in a week, if not just open it all up!

  2. Both is kind of right?  I'm more with post #2 the Brit man, this is Thailand got to play the same game they play?

It was an accident the poor driver isn't like he is working for a S.P 500 company in a Union making top dollar and sand company with top notch insurance.  It was only a tug of the wire if this pole was put in the way it should it would have taken much more to get it to tilt or bend.

I like this one, call the Utility and tell them it has been bending for some time after the storm it is getting worse, you call Farang?  the guy might be replacing the whole SOI by the time they are finished with him. You guys do know the due pricing that goes on in Thailand .

What else from a Thai they are so conditioned brainwashed especially when they got a farang in the payroll, just like government when it isn't your money who cares!  Just tell her what I save I will give it to you that will change her tune real quick!????????

Nice if my Thai wife could access immediately if I died (though hope that is a ways off); thinking about the 2nd signature trick mentioned above.

We have had this account for 18 years in both our names we have other accounts. I've never trusted the Bank system in particularly what they are telling me as to what our rights are you find out later after the accounts are opened. I have a number of friends and family living here who have done all the right things Will and such when the Thai wife dies it is like putting teeth trying to execute anything.

This original account in the beginning I've taken money out on my own and so has she of course we both have knowledge of the withdraw. Two years ago when all this was going down I removed a large portion and place it in the other accounts this account I told her is to be used for my Visa extension and for any medical situation we both might have there is more than enough money for the requirement. Told her anything happen to me this account is an added bonus.

I believe in family tradition anyone who can stay with me over ten years deserve at least half!????

Yes - some offices allow it, while others do not.  I do not disagree about this.  It's the same, in that respect, as many/most immigration rules.
But, if you have 800K in your own sole-owership account, that seems to be accepted everywhere.

Yes, but the ops original report was regarding a joint account with his girlfriend it didn't meet the requirements since it was below the amount stated I included my opinion just as a suggestion 1.6 just in case he might be able to up the amount. I'm asked all the time for personal reasons I keep it in joint for a number of reasons.

If only the partner's book has the 2nd signature, you'd be safe, in any case.  Just don't use that one.

To be clear, though, the "double the amount" / joint-acct method may not be accepted everywhere.  I would not advise anyone starting fresh to go this route.

Sorry in all due respect but please go back and read my post again I went out of my way to point out JOMTIEN!  I also noted I originally started over 10 years ago with my first retirement then found out much easier for my situation to just go into Bangkok Embassy and get the letter was doing that for 7 years?

This year fresh I consider it and as noted went down spoke to a number of agents ALL stated months prior and all said O.K. that was my answer to those who quoted me it can't be done!  The subject has been going on now for near two years there are a number of reports since then about other immigration offices accepting joint accounts as long as you have 800,000 for each the information I provided isn't misleading therefore respectfully stand by it.

    No joint accounts are allowed.

Not true when it comes to the Immigration office JOMTIEN,  use this bank book years ago like 10 then easier to just go to Bangkok and get the letter since it ended January of this year I again used my JOINT bankbook,  months prior I double check at Window 8 with a number of staff they review the book and confirm since it had 800 x2 = 1.6 plus it was o.k.

January 17th, took all the necessary paperwork, including Bank letter, etc.. approved, after lockdown last week went down bank letter etc. to verify funds all approved without any problem.

Think if you look at countries such as AU, NZ etc you will find Thailand has been in lock step behind rules such as quarantine, allowing only nationals to return etc.

The one they came up by themselves is booze ban. Brilliant.

I was at Saigon airport on March 16 and Singapore started 14 isolation for new entries. Thailand was very slow regarding inbound flights from China. In fact China stopped all tour groups to Thailand well before Thailand eventually closed its borders.

My bag I read your quote back to me I meant to say Thailand is taking or adopting from the West, yes only booze and as you know for good reason?  Thanks for pointing out.

  8. Sorry I can't agree with the poster.

I think he has it a bit wrong because when it comes to bike rentals in Thailand if one things it is the responsibility of the rental shop you are in cloud nine! It would be a shock if you think they have any type of insurance for these bike if one thinks then they haven't done their research any insurance is just your standard require registration each year that covers medical treatment this is when you hear Thais say " have insurance! "

In the rental you rent take a good look at the bike age, etc and determine what the value might be if stolen. If I was the ops take the bike if possible to a shop and find out the real cost most likely the rental shops is pushing the value up very common and adding in out of commission cost inflation of cost for Thais are standard. My opinion start dealing and prepared to suck it up you can threaten you will take it to court and if he doesn't have a license to rent etc etc..

As for the other biker this is as common as Som Tom when it comes to accident they all say they got no money especially when you are a farang even Thais I know got screwed with this line. You can chase but the cost will not be worth the end result and in the end you can't scrape and get something when you all ready hit bottom. Their court system isn't like the west they don't have the resources so the reason why the police handle these types of cases and many will not prosecute their own.

50,000 baht, how old is this bike most rental unless it is a PCX new will run 50,000- 55,000?

This really is a typical Thaivisa posters views - it really is

Has it escaped your attention that Western countries are adopting policies that Thailand have implemented? Such s 14 days quarantine etc?

No of course you haven't because like most of the pathetic posters on this forum you have a They all hate us mentality

You are more than welcome to have your view just as I am to mines. I have no illusion as to what is going on in the rest of the world " you are one of those who don't like what is being said so uses Western to justify your narrow view "  you need to get your head out of the sand see I'm not going to lower myself because I disagree and start name calling just because you haven't experience what others have and conclude their view in general don't mean it doesn't exist doing so just shows your ignorance to life!

Continue to have your good experience about Thailand but don't be so steadfast to believe there isn't another view doing so will make you fall into the category the " more patriotic the more stupid " which is what a Thai MP called his own people who think this way!

AGREE TO DISAGREE FOR YOUR SAKE LEAVE IT AT THAT!

  10. This is my own perception based on numerous comments I have heard from local Thais and reading between the lines of what the Thai government does or don't do?

I think by the end of this month we will hear what is going to happened regarding arriving or departing flights Internationally but of course don't expect airlines to offer prices and flight availability prior to the Virus.

The Key is what are the requirements going to be when one need to return to Thailand?  Prior to the complete shut down they wanted a health certificate 72 hours prior and health insurance 100,000 baht then when you get here it was added you needed to be quarantine 14 days.

Thais thinking is very racist and prejudice they feel that the main group spreading the virus are the white skin ones to them they are the true farangs although it was the Chinese that started it all. The lock down in Pattaya on Sukhumvit road keeping the Darkside locals from going into town unless they had business is a clear example of it. I heard it before, during and after I'm not going into town even if they open it because of the farangs funny stuff right how I hear this stuff because I'm not white I'm look like one of them and if I don't speak they don't know and you just hear stuff like this all the time ignorant. I wouldn't be surprise they have two standards just like their double pricing????

See they are going to let the Chinese and Korean in next month because they consider them especially the Chinese like a high MP said a few years back " we are brothers " but will they have the economic funds to do so and the KEY what are the restrictions for them will they have to provide any of the stuff I indicated above? What are the countries thereafter allowed and if so the requirements?  As long as there are restrictions if you need to come back I wouldn't leave and even if all of them are off the board Thailand the country you plan to visit make it short because as long as there isn't a vaccine things can close up fast?

The majority of new Bikes are bought by working Folk, normally on credit, which the Dealers prefer as more money for them.    Now there is a situation where millions have lost their jobs and won't have the dosh to keep making payments, so stands to reason that there will most likely be tens if not hundreds of thousands of secondhand Bikes being repossessed and sold off at knock down prices, so why would anyone want to buy new for a long time to come ?

Right, time frame is usually 3 months of missed payment before they start to come after the bike, with the pandemic they might wave some time the pandemic has destroyed their economy for the poor there will be some a huge stock of use bike in a few months.

Underground temps are consistently cooler than surface temps and thats a global phenomenon due to how the heat from the earths core radiate outward. Couple feet below the surface the temps are constant year round.

I can state unequivocally that my hot-ass water is due to my stainless tank being exposed to about 4 hours of direct sunlight per day, combined with daytime temps being 40C.

As soon as it rains the tank cools off and water is cool again.

I need to build a shelter for the tank but im too lazy.

Let me be a bit more cleared about my first statement!  I have two stainless steels tanks also total volume is something like 5000-6000 lits, there is a small gap between the tanks and my retaining wall where I put my ladder so I can climb up to the roof to keep my balance I need to put my hands on the tanks you talking about hot so I usually need to put a blanket or towel prior.  I know what you are talking about when it comes to HOT.  This is the reason I said just shut off water heater.

I noted I have an apartment building all Thais non of them have water heaters the water is deliver from the City in PVC pipes then to PVC blue pipes in the ground to each unit the water comes in much cooler many of the tenants have a large container in their bathroom which they fill and just do the normal scoopy doo thing.

As I made an earlier reply for this apartment I also had a underground tank it's nothing but problems cracking full of sand tough to get inside to repair so I purchased a new PVC tank and place it above surface for emergency.

Here is the difference between you and me, I'm not lazy nor cheap which you seem to be although you got the 2 steel tanks I easily build a cover for both of them less than a 1000 baht each for the metal tanks I got some insulation wrap. If you too lazy pay someone to do the job.???? you have a problem because you too cheap!???? but have no problem like most buying cases of beer?????

The water in tanks is indeed heated (in shade to daytime temps (about 38C) - in sun to much more).  The amount in pipes in only a few seconds and many of us do not even have pipes in ground.

Chance for more issues, very hard to repair, very hard to keep clean (it does flood here) and if pipe has no pressure who knows what is leaching in, have to have foot valve working or lose pump prime.   But yes it may be a bit cooler in the hot weather months (I have not found warm water to be objectionable for anything but drinking and use cooler for that).

If you don't have pipes how are you getting your water into your tanks? I get City water delivered by large black PVC under the road in front of my house it leads to the meter and out the other side to the PVC blue pipes which are under the ground all along the side of my retaining wall then into my tank.

Second agree the last thing you want is to put the tanks under the ground unless you build some type of cement box to contain it because if you just place it into a hole sooner or later the dirt around even with the tank full majority of the time will create a crack you find out when you get a huge water bill. I had a rubber tank in the ground for my apartment after so many problems I got a new PVC and placed it above ground for emergency.

  14. The tanks aren't the problem with it being so hot the water is being heated simple from the ground where the pipes are located.  Your systems sound like what I have but larger and both tanks are in the sun. This time of the year I and my family just turn off the water heater.  My apartment all locals renting no water heater no tanks water being deliver by City pipes the water comes in warm this time of the year.

If I'm not mistaken there is a member of TVF 'Colin Neil' who is paraplegic and I believe his IO allow his wife to submit his extension applications each year.

Sorry if I'm not clear about my question?  in my brother situation he just went through the entire process for a marriage for the first time and it was approved he went from retirement to marriage. As you know there is lots of paperwork, picture even agents visiting your house he was wondering you got to go through that stuff each year what is required next year when he does?  He is just running around and alive and get there himself does he have to go through the same process each year or does he just take a picture?  Thanks

  16. 4 hours ago, ubonjoe said:

With proof she cannot be with you to do the application. They may give you the statement she has to sign and bring to them to complete the application.

From the conversation regarding a " marriage extension " if one already has one approved just this year going through all the requirements it sounds like you pretty much got to jump through the hoops to have the extension extended each following years which seems to me your wife is got to go down each year to apply with you?
