1. well, in all honesty, this is the best solution of the millions of soi dogs

Well in all honesty, if I tell you exactly how ignorant that sounds, and/or stupid you are, my post will be deleted.

But consider this: A dog, whether wild, privately "owned", or living as a resident street dog with regular food source (and name), is captured, stuffed in a wire crate with several others with no room to move, if not sophocated along the way, faces a brutal beating, alive, to torture it prior to skinning, still alive, and left to hang with a meat hook through it's face, and then gutted, often while still in shock and breathing, .. to be finally butchered for cooking. The entire torture process, which is done to make it "taste better", can take anything from two hours for the lucky ones to a day or more.

You think this is the "best solution" .. ? You perhaps deserve the same.

Sounds like what they do to chickens, pigs and cattle? What are you eating by the way?

  2. Kind of selfish of the Thais? since they have so much of them running around each Soi throughout Thailand without any control. Why so concern? Maybe if the government got a cut in the action it would be o.k., as far as I'm concern they can come down my neighborhood and round up easily 30 strays right now! Better they be eaten than run down on the road by a crazy driver!

  3. I kind of know the answer but nevertheless I will ask it?

I have a 1991 Jeep Cherokee in the United States, it is in good shape particularly the interior and is fully loaded and still running in great condition. I noticed a few similar Jeeps running around in Pattaya so I assume there are shops that can maintain and fix the vehicle. Since I live in Pattaya nearly year round and have been thinking of selling the vehicle which is basically in storage it is worth maximum $3,000. The problem is the vehicle gets bad gas mileage and with gas expensive now no one wants to pay even that price. I don't want to give it away or sell it as junk for its parts so recently I was thinking about shipping it to Thailand? turning it into CNG?

Is it worth all the trouble? the shipping? conversion? Changing the paperwork for ownership to Thai? etc????

    Thanks in advance!

  4. As far as I'm concern they can take a real hard line and that is don't allow any of them anywhere, Thailand the U.S.! Don't approve a visa for any of them. They can stay in their own country their own world and bomb the hell out of themselves as far as I'm concern! Their people are their government and if they Iran or any country can't seem to live with others I say isolated them and if they want to travel they can visit China and Russia which seem to love them or their oil?

  5. Not to be disrespectful to any dog owner but I just want to express my feeling regarding this topic as it relates to Thailand.

I have live in Thailand for sometimes over ten years and live pretty much the life of a Thai, I Asian born and raised in U.S. / Never ever having a dog while I was growing up I have had as many as 9 dogs and currently down to 4. In my neighborhood and through the years like many of you have seen the number of wild dogs running loose in the Soi. For those Farangs living in Jomtien/Pattaya and complaining about the number of wild dogs you haven't seen anything. Go to the otherside of Sukhumvit you want to see numbers!

I have concluded in general, Thais like to have dogs and kittens like they like to have children but don't take care of them. They just can't afford to take care of them or available to to feed them since they are working 12 plus hours a day. Sure they get all excited when they are puppies but all they do is cage them up in their home until they are big enough to fend for themselves. They neither have the money to treat them medically let alone fix them and the cycle continues and the breed and breed throughout the neigbhood. My neighbor again just got a puppy and for 10 hours a day it is in the back area caged up crying, hungry and shit all over the place with hundreds of flies? Not wanting to create another confrontation again I say nothing not to create another conflict with them and my family! A few days ago the crying stop because the dog is dead like the last one!

My dogs are all well fed and get medical treatment not a scratch on them and they appreciate it I know since they rarely venture too far out. The ones that do all have been killed by speeding drivers in a neighborhood. I have been to chicken farms, pigs and cattle slaugthering houses in the U.S. and I wonder what they look like in Thailand since rarely is anything enforce here, just talk in my opinion. In Thailand, I wonder why the outcry comes from the majority of foreigners yet the Thais that complain don't do a better job of controlling the population and promoting responsibility in owning the dogs exposing the inhuman treating Thais have in owning pets! It seems like anything else the hypocrites come out and mostly likely they are the biggest consumers of beef, chicken and pork?

If this story had happen in the U.S. I would gladly see those responsible jailed and punished but here in Thailand, I wonder if the dogs are better off being someones dinner? This isn't a knot on those that own dogs and take care of them but here in Thailand I see very little of that and the large and increasing numbers prove me to be right. Not to take it likely but obviously the Vietamese know where to look?

    Just something to think about?

  6. Like all economist and A--, we all have one, but here all one can do is speculate as to what is going to happen? There are the Bulls and the Bears and it will always be that way. When there is a Bull market the Bears come out, when there is a Bear market the Bulls come out?

Whatever, my opinion and hope is being this Thailand they just screw it all up. From what I have seen the former finance minister was pretty good but he has been replaced and this morning I saw his picture on the Bangkok Post and he was against the current debt situation. I want and hope for a weaker weaker and real weak Baht, that might be selfish but I've live here long enough so I can feel like a Thai at times? What goes around comes around it true then its my turn? I'll get ready to ship some green backs to Thailand when it happens?

  7. In Pattaya, what was the check point outside Big C South of Sukhumvit for? All they did was pitch a tent put a dozen of so police with flashlight on the road to signal everyone bye. There were around 12 other police sitting under the tent and another 10 standing outside but all they did was create a traffic nightmare but never pull anyone over?

I'M thinking shouldn't this all be done before the holidays?

  8. You are asking a legal matter in a public forum which is good and dandy but has no legal experts? but your best answer you got was from Mario and that is go to the people that have the Legal expertist and that is your Embassy for which I believe can help you best. You got 1 week left, tell your stupid friend who has good friends like you to bail them out again. Am I not right? If he doesn't want to go and take care of the problem he created then leave him behind!

  9. I drive and worry about myself here and never take it for granted for one minute as I watch cars tailgate cars and motorbikes. Motorbikes cutting off cars thinking they can win against a ton of metal or a car thinking they can stop in time when they are tailgating a motorbike.

I ride with the thought " if they don't die today they will die tomorrow " and each year the toll rises! Each year 12,000 death with about 60% of them on motorbikes and those in the age of 15-25yrs? then there is hundred of thousands that end up in the emergency room. If one is into pain go to a local hospital like Banglamung and look at all the pain for motorbike accident each day. They are killing themselves slowly and if the government ever made videos as to how their people drive around and act when they get behind the vehicle and how foreigners view them they think they loose face now?

It it will never change and the above doesn't even count the stupid accidents with trains.

Your figures are off. The official number of road fatalities are around 14.000. But only reporting the deaths on the spot and those reported to the police. The actual number is more like three times this figure.

It is nice that you point that out but instead of being anal retentive as to reading other responses you might want to add your own opinion to the actual article instead of nick picking on data. by others. You seem to miss the point and the word " rising " in general. Let take your total 14,000 as I write it most likely has exceeded that total you yourself quote.

  10. I drive and worry about myself here and never take it for granted for one minute as I watch cars tailgate cars and motorbikes. Motorbikes cutting off cars thinking they can win against a ton of metal or a car thinking they can stop in time when they are tailgating a motorbike.

  11.
Even if the driver applies the brakes immediately the train takes more than a mile to come to a full stop. A guy with a red flag at the crossing can't do much more that warn the engineer to brace himself for a crash, because the engineer can't see him from even a quarter of a mile away.

I've passed that crossing many times and the fault lies with the placement of the traffic light and the impatience of Thai drivers. I remember thinking many times that it was just a matter of time until they had a disaster there.

Every time I have ever seen a train passing through the crossings on this line they have never been moving more than 10mph and at least half of those times the train has stopped to wait for the crossing to be cleared. The crossings in Bangkok are regularly completely chocked with traffic and the trains move at a speed which reflects this. They can and do stop to wait for the signal man to give the green light once the crossing is clear and regularly do so.....

In this case it must either be communication breakdown or perhaps mechanical failure.

Do the math, take a train and its weight, even at a slow speed a train hitting a car is like crushing a can. Take the weight of a car and up against a motorkike. I have seen a car tap a motorbike at less that 2mph and sent the bike in the air!

  12. The police would not provide a citation because they themselves have no idea as to the concept of basic driver education. Rules are made and might sound silly but they are there for the chance it might happen regardless of how small.

In Pattaya I don't know how many times I have stopped short of the railroad tracks only to be told by the police to move up! Each time I refuse and I explain to them why! They just don't understand the basic and the basic is this...

This isn't provided in any driver handbook but a former truck driver with a teaching certification the rule is this..

    1. Never stop on the track... the reason is obvious

    2. Never shift gears while crossing the track.. this is so in case you kill the vehicle while shifting!

Both of these rules are a automatic failure in a driver test for commercial vehicles!!!

Not surprising since Thais have no idea what to do if a emergency vehicle needs to get by?

  13. As noted at that age and carrying 16,000 baht? Did he just get a ATM withdraw at that hour? His ATM card was given no mentioned if he was stupid enough to actually give the ATM pin number? Regardless, Thai aren't rocket scientist when it comes to crime but rocket scientist aren't BIB too? If he actually gave his pin and they got money? they can check the video from the location of the ATM or nearby banks to see the videos during that time frame. But in the end don't expect that to happen from the BIB since they are too busy giving out tickets to Farangs for not wearing a helment.

  14. I was stopped in the country for driving my sidecar. I had paper and even wearing a helmet. He checked everything and everything was in order just looked at me speaking Thai, I finally told him I don't speak much Thai but do understand more than I speak. He was surprise and told me I look Thai I told him I American, I believe then that he started to lecture me that I shouldn't drive a sidecar and that being an American should have a higher standard

for myself. I told him this is my Toyota Vigo convertible and you should see what I drive at home.

I open my wallet and showed him that I only had 20 baht and a 10 baht coin... . He bent his head slightly down so his dark sunglasses slip down so I can see his eyes and then wave me off. Got off again? I never pay!

  15. It happens in many under-developed countries where police need to supplement their income.

Would you rather pay a 'spot fine' or go to the hassle of a trip to the police station to pay a much larger fine?

Some posters need to get off their collective high-horses. We who pay the spot-fines exacerbate the problem but the solution may be found in paying police a decent wage. I say 'may' bacause corruption is so endemic in Thai society that increased salaries may not fix the problem.

Best to always keep a few 100 baht notes in front of the car.:jap:

    I agree and disagree somewhat?

In the States where I live a rookie cop starting salary is $75,000 per year and that doesn't includes the other benefits like Medical and pension. Yet in certain departments like Vice and Narcotics there are many still on the take. As for Thailand the biggest complaints from many posters isn't whether they are paying the fine on the spot or not its that they are being stop and as soon as they see you are a Farang whether you have done anything wrong or not they have their hands out because they know 100 baht on the spot than having to come back is a drop in the bucket to Farangs.

As long as you don't have enforcement and a honest method to hold officiers accountable in this country things will never change no matter what they pay you. There is lots of lip service being given but as long as the politician neither have the well or fortitude to do enforcement things will continue as is even if you pay them triple. See human nature is the more you make the more you spend and as long as one knows this is the system and a honest person can't do anything himself to change it they have to go along with the system.

Can you imagine, if they triple the income gave them a motorcycle and car and even a place to live and everyone including your boss is out on the road taking bribes and you don't? In Hong Kong, the police make a good living and many get allowance for cars and housing and still corruption exist.

  16. Bribe? Since this was brought to light now the BIB decides to get one big bribe at once 50 million baht now that is going to be one big legal bribe. This statement is laughable just like the one I read the other day from the head police guy regarding the rebate for new cars buyers. Statements against this project suggested the traffic would be worse in BKK, and the police said we can handle the traffic? I'm still laughing and its amazing they actually say it with a straight face.

  17. Single Entry Re Entry permit will cost you 1,000 Baht.

Multi Entry Re Entry Permit will cost you 3,800 Baht.

    That is a fact.

    Mr. Lite Beer,

" That is a fact " My apologise! You are correct in your accessment. I went down to Immigration to prove you wrong but it turn out to be the other way! It is in fact 1000 baht for a single. I must have gotten it confused with the 1900 baht for the 1 year visa, bad eyesight mistaken the 0 for a 9, either way in the future being wrong has it advantages of saving me money so I can get my eyes checked?

  18. Stay on Topic of the original question?

He is living in Thailand already! He is already married a few weeks ago! He is in Pattaya!

Decide what type of viist you want first that will determine how much you will keep in the bank?

    A. Make a copy of all your marriage paper

    B. Make copies of all the pages of your passport, they will need the front page, they will need the arrival card copy, they will need page of the entry stamp, they will need page of the visa being used to currently stay in Thailand, if you are renting ;or own they will need a copy of rental agreement or utility bill or a copy of ownership of the house or condo and of course the bank statement no more than 3 days old ( Pattaya ). If you have monthly income you can use that income to apply for your 1 year. For example: You are suppose to have 800,000 baht in bank, but if you have verify income like $1,115.67 per month that equals (30x1) = 33,470 baht x 12 = roughly 400,000 baht per year, they all you need is 400,000 baht in the bank. They will put the two together and reach the 800,000 mark.

    C. Now keep all other pages from your passport in page order in your hand ready to give if he or she points out that you need to copy this or that page. Every year I have been doing this the required pages always seems to be a bit different. So instead of getting all upset and bent out of shape having to run outside to make copies I have them all in hand and once he/she request I fling them out. OH! MAKE SURE YOU SIGN YOUR NAME TO EACH DOCUMENT JUST AS IT IS SIGN ON YOUR PASSPORT! DON'T THE THE EMBASSY LETTER THAT VERIFIES THE INCOME!

APPLYIN FOR THE 1 YEAR VISA DOESN'T REQUIRE A POLICE REPORT NOR A MEDICAL CERTIFICATE! ONCE AGAIN THAT IS IN PATTAYA (JOMTIEN). Doing it in the U.S requires these documents.

    D. Now once you finish applying they will give you a number and ask you to return the next day to pick up your passport. You now will see the stamp and now you must decide if you want to apply for a Multi-Entry this stamp will cost you a additional 1900 for 1 entry or 3800 for Multi entry. While staying and living in Thailand, if you like to come or go as you please out of the country or need to go back home once or twice a year then you should apply. If so, in Jomtien try to pick a slow day and go early in the morning or late in the afternoon. you will need a copy of front page of passport and a copy of your 1 year visa stamp, again sign the copies.

  19. The letter from the bank can't be older than 3 days. When you get the letter it will have a xerox copy of the most current page this if read by the officier is self explanatory as to how long the money has been in the bank. The first year they look at everything but now they pretty much seem to care about the letter from the Embassy but you still must have the bank letter? I say this because I know a idiot that was told this same thing so he just went down to Immigration filled out the form and didn't have the letter or anything? They laugh at him and threw it back at him. Like I said this guy was a idiot because he called me and scream that I gave him the wrong information! I hung up on him and haven't heard from him again.

If you have a monthly income like a pension, Social Security for example as noted you can get a letter from the US Embassy for I believe now is something like 1300 baht if not more or less, I remember last year it was increased. If you are in Pattaya the next time the Embassy will be in town will be December 1st, which they will announce the time and hotel and you can get this letter. I stop going to these announce location since they seem not to get the message. It seems that 90% of the people there need this letter but they only have one waiting list instead of a separate table for this letter. The guys that need help in other matter slow down the whole process so just waiting for the letter could take hours? I expect more common sense from the Embassy but I think they have been in Thailand too long and now think and operate like Thailand? I take the bus into Bangkok, to the Embassy and get my letter and make a day out of it, but now starting September 1st, you got to make a appointment with the Embassy just to get the letter.

  20. You can always depend on Amazing Thailand. When things are bad rise the prices. I guess someones got to pay for all the promises made by the new government. Another example of shooting themselves in the foot. I just can't wait when inflation hits and the housing bubble burst here in Pattaya and everywhere else in Thailand. They deserve the outcome for their big swell head and arrogants towards foreigners.

  21. Bad driving bad maintenance and not reinforced driving laws, also busses have high gears thats why the struggle up hills and the opposite when they go down , The breaks get hot and you get brake fade , if the air goes the brakes come on, but if they are to hot they do nothing. The driver should know that feathering the breaks allow them to cool a Little between braking. Also it should be mandatory to have a maxi ret system , it is a system that has no actual touching parts, You have an Electro magnetic magnet around the prop shaft to slow the vehicle down , many busses in Europe have them so why not Thailand. But then again maybe the driver had a heart attack and it was beoned his control, we will never know now but a tragic loss of life,

The report on this accident was the driver was over taking a vehicle going downhill. He was unable to complete the overtaking because another vehicle was coming in the opposite direction the result the vehicles collided head on. There was no time for the breaks to get hot or to fade. The air would deplete if a driver use feathering technique as you noted in a vehicle with airbrakes this is a technique use in passenger cars but never in a commercial vheicle for the fact the air can't refill in the tank fast enough. This accident doesn't have anything to do with brakes the driver put himself and others in a position that only could result in a accident. As a commericail driver and trainer when driving and testing one of the rules of thumb is " Never create a situation to happen because it will sooner or later happen " there are never been a device created in the past or future that can counteract the wreakless behavior of a human which was the case here.

Based on the health makeup of Thais and with no control on checking by the government on driver of commerical vehicles many are driving with heart problems and high blood pressure. In the western world a license commericial driver must get a physical every two years which is non-existent in Thailand. This had nothing to do with signage, the road or its condition or how many people use this road and how, nothing to do with his health, nothing to do with the vehicle it is plain and simple like so many accidents in Thailand. IT WAS THE HUMAN! I have been there and if this guy had a heart attack who wouldn't? Tons of steel and no where to go and nothing one can do " there is no out " If I was the driver and did this the best thing was to die or have a heart attack so I wouldn't have to live and see <deleted> I did!
