  1. Unless you are a big beer guzzling, large western food food eater and sexpat, 12,000 per month is plenty just for sustenance. Most Thais do it on 150 baht per day, but for them pizza, big macs, kfc and the likes are considered a rare treat rather than a daily thing.

I can live without pizza, big macs, and kfc all the year long, and I definitely would not call this junk food a treat at all.

  2. I have a limited company in Cyprus and since I stay most of the year in Thailand, I would prefer to have a local bank account in here, too. Would this be possible? Would the money wired to this account be subject to any taxes, or is this considered tax-free since the money are not earned in Thailand? Any help is appreciated, I have already contacted HSBC, will post their reply, too.

  3. You can do by exit/return at any border or take a flight out and return. Both will get a new 60 day stay if visa valid. You can also visit immigration to extend stay 30 days without leaving but will cost 1,900 baht.

You can extend by up to 30 day's as you say but some office's will only give you anything from 7 day's for 1,900bt up to them. It's all in the new rule package. So you could be unlucky if you pick the wrong one.

you get exactly 30 days for 1900 baht

  4. Once in Myanmar, Dollar bills are easily accepted. The exchange range varies from 800 to 900 Kyats per US Dollar. They will only accept new crisp notes.

both statements are highly "exaggerated". last january each of my non-crisp notes were accepted at a rate of 1,400-1,450 Kyats.

Options for getting a visa without going to Bangkok? I'm in Ubon, keen to go later in the year.

any Myanmar travel agency can do it for you (I have used Magado Travel <[email protected]>). A little more expensive ($60 or $70, I do not remember already, it was lsat year) but well worth it + they can make a reservation of the hotel. Good thing is you can pay by Paypal.

  5. The gov't there does not give a good exchange rate-- it is better to exchange possibly at your hotel or guest house, or at the market.

best rate in shops owned by ethnic Indians. changing at hotel = :bah:

Central Hotel provides a pretty good rate, though.
