  1. Its only a 300 baht arrival tax as so many people have mentioned but its in addition to the 700 baht exit tax. So the figure is now 1000 baht per person. If you fly in and out of Thailand regular its 1000 baht on every trip Family of four its 4000 baht total per visit. Its not great for news frequent travelers or local airlines like Air Asia offering cheap tickets KL, Penang, Saigon etc. If plan to travel around SE asia and use Thailand as your hub and its adding 1000 baht for every visit. You can minimize that by only visiting Thailand once rather than multiple visits but thats a negative for Thailand. Raising the tax from 700 to 1000 baht is not a smart move in my opinion. A temporary reduction to 500 baht would have been better. Any kind of reduction even a small 100 baht would have been good way to create some news and use the media exposure to promote Thailand travel post covid.
  2. You hear of hail stones every hot season in some village somewhere but they never seem to fall in CM City. Well until 13:32 on 25 April 2020. These fell close to Chang Phuak Gate. They fell for less than a minute and melted quick because it was a blazing hot day during the hot season. For the odd person wondering how i can remember the date let alone the exact time ( i can't, not even the year!) the camera records the info.
  3. The China Eastern aircraft that crashed has never stopped flying since covid began. China minimized disruption by closing the borders. Domestic flights were operating normally the whole time except to a few cities that had short lockdowns.
  4. There are all kinds of handlebar stem types and sizes and if you have a old Japanese bike made for the Japanese domestic market i would not assume its todays common 31.8mm size or the once common but harder to find 25.4mm. There are other uncommon sizes too. Rims come in all kinds of widths, sizes and number of spokes. Its best to post some photos if you dont know exactly what you are looking for.
  5. You would be very lucky to find someone who wants them and also go through the hassle of meeting up to exchange and make only 150 baht on the transaction. I would offer them for sale at 30,000 baht or equivalent to start with. It may take a long time.
  6. Go up the mountain to Ban Chang Khian and see the cherry blossoms. It only a occurs for a couple of weeks a year and its happening now. It will be cold early morning or if its cloudy. I have not been this year but you may need your double vaccinated status app/ref numbers to get in? You dont want to go all the way up there and be denied entry.
  7. Chiang Mai may still "open up" on the 1st Nov because very few tourists will be actually be coming. Thai domestic tourists will be put off by the current covid surge and the few foreign tourists that do visit Thailand will head to the beach mostly. I think the 1st Nov reopening will still happen for CM, figures of 70% double jabbed for the local population will convince the authorities to push ahead.
  8. Veg prices are up and you get less of them. Muang Mai supplies a lot stuff that is then sold at other city markets like Tanin. I didnt visit yesterday but heard that Tanin market is busier and traders from Muang Mai have moved operations to Tanin (and probably other city markets?) until Muang Mai reopens.
  9. I would get rid of them if they were on my property. If one stings you it will hurt like hell but if for whatever reason you get multiple stings you could die. A couple of years ago a local guide died taking some tourists on a hike around Fang if i remember right. How they ended up getting attacked i dont know. The farangs ran off, the guide died at the spot. https://www.the-sun.com/news/6024/horrified-tourists-saw-thai-tour-guide-stung-to-death-by-giant-wasps-which-then-feasted-on-his-body-for-four-days/
  10. Hawk moths look very like hummingbirds. FIrst time i saw one i thought it was a hummingbird. The small thai sunbirds, spider hunters and flower peckers are all too big and slow to be confused with humming birds.
  11. The new arrival tax and existing departure tax add 1200 baht to every international Air Asia/Lion Air/Thai Vietjet flight. Cheap tickets to neighbouring countries wont be as cheap. Its not good news for the low cost airlines and the boom in travel they created(pre covid). Now Everyone Can Fly.....Less
  12. Arrival tax 500 baht. Departure tax 700 baht. Total 1200 baht. I think its too much. 1200 baht is 30.55 euros / 35.46 USD .
  13. The first jab you had to print out your application, ticket info etc. For the second jab is this still required or just turn up with the paper they gave you after being jabbed?
  14. I also got my first vaccine yesterday morning at Promonada. On arrival it looked busy with queues but everything moved quickly and efficiently. Thank you to the USA for providing the vaccines free of charge even to none USA citizens like me. Good work by the USA volunteers, nurses and medical people. I am unsure of the actual organisations involved but am very thankful for your efforts and the immunisation.
  15. Its over 40's now for Monday 13th. It started off as over 50's. You have seen it changed to over 45's and i just clicked on the ticketing link and its now at over 40's. There must be plenty of vaccines available and the age cutoff is being lowered and lowered.
  16. Are these latest Promenada Pfizer jabs part of the 2.5 million donated by the USA government?
  17. Its possible just turn up and get your extension. If you have all the correct paperwork you might find its all done within 30 mins of arrival.
  18. The monks caught drinking and partying in the temple recently were fined 10000 baht, some were fined an extra 2500 baht, plus suspended 14 day jail sentence. I wonder what the fines will be for the these people? Probably less?
  19. I would try Triple Cats Cycles. Check their location on FB or Instagram because they have moved to a new place recently and i not sure where it is. They are in the city though.
  20. If they don't accept your old kor ror 2, somebody posted a while back that the ampur office at City Hall only issue kor ror 2's on Fridays only.
