  1. Maybe retirees are the most common as there is a requirement to keep 800k baht in the bank every year. All countries have similar requirements, but much more money.
  2. Part of a discussion forum is to talk about things related to the topic. This is about a top Policeman investigating bent Immigration Cops, and I and others know that the one investigating is actually taking in Billions from foreigners, many of whom think they are doing no wrong. I think this is very relevant for an expat forum to bring to light what is going on in the immigration department. When I hear people saying it's their money and they can bypass immigration requirements if they want, I would ask you what you think of foreigners doing the same in your home country?
  3. It's corrupt to the core, even the photocopying place in Khon Kaen used to charge me 7 baht per page! Also, they had a tip box on display until I complained and got it removed.
  4. Problem is that Immigration police intimidate some naïve foreigners into using their corrupt services. Rather than standing up for themselves, and defending their integrity(as well as not breaking the law), they succumb and pay them.
  5. Say it like it is - agents helping foreigners bribe Immigration police to allow them to stay in the Kingdom when they don't satisfy the requirements.
  6. Was speaking to Chinese this morning in Shenzen, Beijing and Shanghai, they are far from coming.
  7. This has to start with visa agents. I see them openly advertised, even saw a huge sign for one on the Bkk-Chonburi highway. I think that is a generous amount. If I want to retire to the US, I would have to INVEST 17 million baht. There should be some kind of reciprocation. People are happy about Thailand being a developing country on one hand, then on the other want it to be like the West.
  8. Indeed, I see many old codgers driving around town with now shirt or helmet on.
  9. I used to not believe certainly religious beliefs until I met the Dalai Lama in his home in India. I shook his hand an had a spiritual experience. In the retreat I visited, I saw Karma in action and things I never would have believed. Similarly, with Christianity and Hinduism, I've experienced miraculous things. I'm neither a Christian, Hindu, or Buddhist but I have respect for their beliefs. The person who wrote this is showing his ignorance and has never even glimpsed the realm of the Sacred, or the infinite vastness in religious beliefs.
  10. Not only do they try to make fun of Thai belief, they try to make fun of the beliefs of 1/3 of the World. Disgraceful journalism.
  11. Sia is an honorific title, not a name. He'll not be doing jail time.
  12. 1 กก 1111 Bangkok was only 25 million a few years back. Looks like that was a good buy
  13. Suspicious You can block callers.
  14. I think they pay 30b/hour.
  15. Have you been refused by Isarn girls after 2012? Where is Soi buakhao, and what do you do there?
  16. No, they won't. Despite the Thai Constitution only being for Thais, there are laws for foreign workers and they DoL usually give them equal treatment. The problem, however, is that influential people that hire them often have relatives/friends in the Dept.
  17. It makes no difference what the minimum wage is, the richer people will continue to pay below it. As usual, the Shiniwat family are focusing on the poor people for votes as the more educated can see through their scams like giving free phones to people then milking them for services. The poor will vote for the "possibility" of extra money as they are desperate, even willing to ignore the 1000s of extrajudicial killings by the clan. I used to teach this entitled brat, who arrived in a brown Bentley (bought with money her father got by crashing the economy when he was Finance minister or Dept PM to "Banhan' the most corrupt PM ever or 'Big Jew') when she was at school in Bangkok around 1997.
  18. Which why I, and many others, prefer living here. Not as bread-headed as the West.
  19. I have better things to do to! I asked Bangkok Barry if he could drive, not you. It is better to use the Quote function instead of writing out what someone else said.
  20. No, actually what do you mean 'another' ? This was simply discriminating against me for being Thai.
  21. Goons? Nothing wrong with giving limited Vaccines to local people. Actually, when the Western Vaccines came to my area, Khon Kaen, I couldn't get one as I didn't have a visa in my UK passport. Foreigners got them well before me.
