  1. You could start your own company. I know someone over 60 that did that. I never wanted to work for a meagre salary too, but I wanted to get citizenship. It was well worth it.
  2. I could be wrong, but white expats are not called Immigrants.
  3. It was a piece of cake in the 1960s. As a boomer, maybe you didn't go until 70s, when it was still easy. Get with the times! I enquired around 1993, when I was 28 and although white, Master's degree in Material's Science, it was too much hassle for me. Maybe you are a tradesman and they wanted to put you down a mine? How many years were you on a PR visa? You make it sound much simpler than it is. You are off topic with your bashing. Married to a Thai, no language requirement - does Australia have a language requirement? I know the UK does, and a test about British culture.
  4. Getting a job for 3 years is hardly insurmountable. What other country would allow a retired person to get citizenship?
  5. Indeed, much easier in Thailand than Australia.
  6. Why would they cancel your visa? 10 years is a long time, or is it a year to year thing? I guess naturalized citizens could be revoked at any time, but unlikely.
  7. There are no preposterous requirements for citizenship, that's a bar stool myth. Not even a requirement to read/write/ speak Thai now, if married to a local. Easy if married to a Thai. I applied Dec 2017 and got it Dec 2020, with delays for Covid. I worked as an English teacher for 3 years, paying tax on 40,000 baht a month. Anyway, I call myself an expat, not an immigrant, but won't go into why.
  8. To put things in perspective. 40 million 'poor' in the USA with 500,000 homeless. Very few homeless here. When visiting the UK, my Thai wife was shocked to see all the homeless people.
  9. I'd bet Brits gambled a lot more than Thais. I read somewhere that Australians are the biggest gamblers in the world.
  10. I am neither and don't find it the slightest bit interesting.
  11. I can kinda grasp how bored Thai housewives find this interesting, but foreign expats?
  12. I'll check it out later, thanks. I need a taxi to Bkk soon.
  13. Many people who haven't lived here long, or haven't integrated into society don't realize what can happen when the power changes. I've developed 'relationships' with head police, who move on to be Senators, then when a coup happens, they're out and all that work/money has been wasted. Similarly, have known high-ranking army officers who lose their business when the police took over. illegal immigrants who hide behind the fact that their bribery was done by an agent and the criminal giving their visa is an immigration policeman could be out at any time, when a new boss comes in.

  15. It's very similar to the Mob in NYC. In certain areas, most people pay protection to the mafia btu how many cases do you see in court?
  16. Is that free?
  17. I bought a fancy new TV to watch the WC final but there was a storm last night and I can't use it. Is there any way I can watch on my laptop? Frre online, maybe betting app? I can screen share to the TV, too late to get a technician to come out.
  18. It has to start with not 'forcing' immigration police to buy their position; I know one who paid 10 million baht. Most pay around 1 million.
  19. Most don't actually lend the money, they pay the IO 10,000 baht to turn a blind eye.
  20. There's one agent I know of in Pattaya who has a bent immigration policeman at the bank!
