  1. "Not so polluted," 5555555

Just a few tons of garbage washing up on the beach daily! If you want to go native, they maybe you can survive in bangsean...boring as anywhere else in Los for a farang but at least only 40 minutes from both pattaya and Bangkok. You sound like a newbie so I guess it's all still good to you...so why not BS or Nakorn Nowhere for the gai yaan 5555

Yes I will probably go half native or find my own things, joining the fishermen on their trips "fishing up trash" or something smile.png Los? BS? What does gai yaan mean?wai.gif

Newbie as suspected...only such would agree with GF to live in BS...but like I said, it's all new and interesting to you but old and boring to the rest of us.

It will be easier for her to get rid of the corpse in BS than in Pattaya.

  2. Unfortunately, I too am an investor in the LM MPF and I am based in Chiang Mai. I would like to know of any group concerned with discussing where we all go from here please.

I am also based in Chiang Mai and my (English) IFA is from the area.

I see LM boss Peter Drake has moved on already to insurance now.

  3. Thanyaburimac, I have friends fathers here in Australia who served in Vietnam. 1 in particular has real trouble with Asians in general since the war particularly the Vietnamese here in Australia, let alone living in SE Asia. Now I assume you live in Thailand mac?I'm curious, What made you come to the decision to live there? I know Thailand isn't Vietnam and war affects everyone differently, but I would of thought living far away as possible from the place that would seem to remind you of the war and I know Thailand was an r and r location, to me it seems like the last place I would want to live besides Vietnam itself. Doesn't it remind you of the war?

In fact this question I'd like to put out there to anyone that is in the same situation...

Letting go of the past is the only way to enjoy what is going on right now. Just because something was true then doesnt mean it is true now. Wouldnt the best way to "win" to be to turn your attention to something productive now?

"...the 2nd best time to plant a tree is today." Sent from ThaiVisa app (Galaxy Note 2).

Im curious why they have problems with Asians? I mean it's not like Vietnamese people came into their country and bombed and murdered them for no reason is it?

  4. And I love Thai stocks. Guys you sell and I buy from you. Thailand is growing for the last, how many years? 50? And will continue to do so. Buy now and check your port in 5 years. You should do well.

what about asking those who bought Thai stocks nearly 20 years ago when the SET was 1,753, checked their portfolio 4 years later and realised that the SET dropped 88% and the Baht dropped 50% what they think of "50 years of growth"?

If you had done the Walen school of investing class you would have done fine.

  5. come see thailand..the land of smiles the lure of a cheap vacation, with a free parasail, and endless seafood buffets...all run by children..who dont have a clue how to be hospitable or professional.....such a sad sad tragedy...

If all activities in Thailand were suddenly regulated, tested, insured, approved, fully trained, complying with all health and safety requirements as in the wonderful democratic western countries, then Thailand would be as boring and unaffordable as the countries most expats have run away from....

You are saying.........Come at your own risk......................It's all cheap here BUT, come at your own risk...............sad.png

That is part of the charm - if you want safe go to Switzerland...

I doubt the ladys Husband sees it as "part of the charm"

  6. Complete stupidity on part of the driver! Should have never happened in a million years there is no excuse or defense for this kind of accident. When pulling anything behind a boat you kill the motor at the first sigh of any trouble. Probably won't be any repercussions from city hall as the Indian consulate usually does not represent their nationals well. If this was a Chinese or Korean you would have seen the Mayor at the hospital already.

The Indian Consulate is based in Chiang Mai, so this would be dealt with by the Embassy and not the Consulate.

Furthermore, I disagree with your statement, as the report in the Pattaya Daily News states that the Indian Embassy has said that they will take over all the costs to take them back to India.

I doubt that most Western Embassies would make this offer for their own citizens.

The British Embassy for instance offer very little in the way of support for its subjects, they don’t even Issue passports or visas any more.

spot on. horrible event but the Embassy is doing their bit.

  7. Wow, most of the ideas presented here, other than cash, seem weird to me ...but it would depend on the person/relationship. I'm not clear if you have several g/f's, or you are into many rental g/f's or you are talking about tips for workers, or g/f workers ...or what.

If you have a real g/f, or a few of them, then I guess something you think they would like, as an individual ..which would not be a crappy key chain from an airport. I guess if you want to give something like that as a tip to a hotel worker, or some person like that, but I think they would rather have 100 baht. Even poor people recognize cheap crap as cheap crap though. Kids, okay ...crazy pencils or something, yes. Adults, I think not.

A name-brand make-up, that they won't use, but they like the brand?? I am a female, and if I don't like/need that exact color, or product, it won't be used, and if it won't be used, I don't care what brand it is, it will be a waste. And I would be a bit miffed by some guy who has a supply of lipsticks to give out! Acutally I think the makeup idea is quite bad unless you know EXACTLY what she likes and uses (or hopes to use).

Perfume can be good and a more normal gift to give a woman, and is expensive here, if it is real. If your g/f would rather wear fake perfume for 200 baht, and pocket $35 as well, or would rather have $45 of real perfume (which actually that won't be perfume per se at that price ...let's call it fragrance) who knows?? It also doesn't last long here, I mean, it is really ridiculous, due to the heat. So, small quanties would probably be a better bet, even if it isn't as impressive.

Also, I guess it would depend a lot on the type of person you give the gift too, and mostly how poor they are, or are not. Cheap Seiko watches? If they are really poor, they might prefer a $5 fake, and money. They might not know how much that watch is worth if not fake, or might not care, because everyone will assume it is a fake. And how much are those? I have no idea if they are $25 or $200. But I am not sure that is really considered a stylish watch, especially for ladies, maybe men don't care as much. I think a watch is a piece of jewelry and quite a personal choice. On the other hand, if you hand out watches for tips to waiters, maybe they would like that, but it would be weird!

I think, maybe you should just forget bringing gifts unless you have a few specific people in mind, and know what they would like, and you can get it cheaper in the US, then okay, do it. But otherwise, I think you are just wasting your time and money and luggage space, and could better use the money to give cash, or buy people things they want when you are here.

I appreciate your generous and thoughful nature, but I think looking like a Santa Claus, won't come off here as well as you may think.

You sound like such a nice person, I would address your obvious personal issues before having a go at others. :)
