Hi Gonzo,
I don't know why I came across as only wanting "hoity-toity" places .
I am actually invited to some of the restaurants, but I do not mind spending money on food.
Having said that, I eat in an amazingly wide range of eateries, from street food to up-market.
I will make certain to pop in next week; whilst no vegetarian I do like the odd break from meat.
Regards,
Hanno
Hi Hanno,
I like many many places in Chiang Mai, My favourite is by far Pun Pun restaurant the food is organic Thai and is fantastic. They have 2 places one is inside the grounds of Wat Suan Dok ( hard to spot) and the other further up Suthep road.
The food is first class, seriously the nicest Thai food I have had in 7 years here - the price is ridiculous., main courses are around 60 baht - I am sure anyone who has been will back me up on this.
For foreign food I would have to say Dukes are hard to beat - great quality and not expensive, there is one at the night bazar, one over the river (iron bridge) and one opening soon in the promenade mall I think.

some of these critics are harsh. To live through life without ever trusting anyone is not my idea of a decent life. My Thai friend cheated me and my wife out of milions but the fact that he was a long time good friend hurt more than the loss of money. Everything is in my wifes name. If you can not trust your wife then you should not marry her . Unfortunately in Thailand it is the man's conciet that is the problem. He thinks he is so hansome or a desirable husband that his wife is marrying him for love and not his money. He should first look at his future wife and ask him self would a similar girl in his own country would marry him for love. He is too full of himself to admit that he could not find a young or desirable girl in his own country to marry him.
You see so many young girls married to old men here who obviously married them for thier money and many are anxiously waiting for them to die or perhaps are conspiring somehow to get rid of them.
That is sad about your long time friend cheating you. Life really does not play fair sometimes, I do not know about the people involved in the story posted but they are of a similar age and on the surface does not perhaps look like a bargirl story.
It is a bit pathetic that people post crap about something without any info. I hope the prick of a friend who cheated you gets what they deserve.

<deleted> sake - what a bunch of <deleted> have posted here. You have no idea what went and are quick to slag of the guy and basically laugh at him. Lets hope you have no misfortune in your life. Grow up.

get it on ebay and have a friend post it to the buyers, or send it to a local auction house - again ask a mate.

Kathoey or katoey is a Thai term that refers to either a transgender woman or an effeminate gay male in Thailand. While a significant number of Thais perceive kathoeys as belonging to a third gender, including many kathoeys themselves, others see them as either a kind of man or a kind of woman.[1] Related phrases include sao (or phuying) praphet song (Thai: "a second kind of woman") and phet thi sam (Thai: "third gender"). The word kathoey is of Khmer origin.[2] It is most often rendered as ladyboy or lady boy in English conversation with Thais and this latter expression has become popular across South East Asia. Some English sources gloss kathoeys as non-males.
I know how they would be viewed in Presbyterian Scotland lol It's good that Thailand is so open and has a live & let live attitude.

I think there are a few bars in town for gays only - not sure where but I guess google can help. I know they are a lot of gays in Chiang Mai so they may be able to assist you.

I'd personally rather have one rough, relatively timely (12hrs that far is good here) journey (just down some sleeping pills, or summat) than tatty connections that won't save big on time, and if the guy's on a budget... Also, flying partway really isn't all that quicker when one factors in taxi/waiting/transfer/baggage/waiting for bus/bus journey. If you have money, fly to DM and take the Cesna to HH (no direct flights from CM). But if you're a travel buff, you could train it all the way, or fly to DM, waltz over the bridge, take the 11 bahter (?) to Hualamaphong, then the service (sometimes five hours) to HH. It has a cute station and is walking distance from hotels. Just avoid messing with the bus to M.chit, then to Sai Tai Mai, then to HH. Yuck!
I don't think I would recommend the train just now with the 13 derailments already this year!

The crash and the painting out of the logo and bad treatment of passengers afterward make this Country look like a joke - and as for the railways.............

I flew up yesterday from Bangkok and did notice a problem with getting a taxi, To be fair it still only took 10 minutes till I got one of the silver ones. hope they manage to sort it all out to everyones satisfaction.
It does sound like more revenue raising tactics from an overspending government

Remember... YOU HAVE TO WAIT 3 TO 6 MONTHS to take the test. If you had unprotected sex yesterday and were exposed to HIV and took the test today, it would come back negative. So go get the test now, and again in three months and to be totally sure again in six months. And please don't have sex with any anyone (bar girls, whatever) while you are possibly HIV positive.
We had a thread like this about a month ago, can you describe the type of sex you (whoever) were having? It is important as some types of sex lend themselves to HIV transmission more than others.
It is not the poster who
hasmay haveaidsHIV it is his "Friend" -
Just heard a friend of mine also has Dengue - it seems to be rife. Has it got worse recently than it used to be?

Can only be good news for Chiang Mai, as Chinese tourism grows, if they can be diverted here, rather than heading straight down to Bangkok.
Yes but the Chinese prefer Singapore airlines so they can steal the cutlery on board

Could somebody advise me which banks pay 3% in the UK or alternatively offshore accounts paying a similar amount in GBP? The best I can manage is 1.95% with Barclays, but for 12 months only. It then reverts to 0.5%!
NZ banks are paying 4% p.a for a 1 year term. Tax free if you're a non resident.
Poor return, you can get over 9% here
and lose 22% within 4 months!
probably lose it all in a few weeks.

I had a friend last year from Iran who was (jokingly) telling us to buy government bonds - he said 27% lol. Even better that Syria

Roller cover for Ford Ranger pick up in Chaing Mai?
in Chiang Mai
Posted
I have a 2013 Ford Ranger Wildtrak and have been trying to find a supplier of a roller cover for the back - I have found one in Bangkok and Rayong but nothing here in Chiang Mai.
I was hoping someone might know of a supplier in the region?
thanks
