  1. I get very frustrated now using the Air Asia site and have frequently binned it and flown with another carrier. The latest thing that was annoying me was there is now a check in charge if you are unable to check in online - I avoided that by flying with Bangkok Air.

I am not saying they are super expensive or anything and the fleet is in good shape, I just get pissed of at their site sometimes - If I book with Nok it takes about 2 minutes but AA it takes 10 minutes dealing with their site

  2. I've met pretty much all of A Squadron SAS at one time or another over the years, mostly in or around Nana, there was a time there when I almost started to believe that Nana really was a secret SAS base

A few weeks ago I met an Aussie who told me he trained the Aussie SAS to box - he was a pot bellied arsehol_e and not a super fit athlete.

  3. I find this extraordinary. Thai people are so gentle and kind with their young kids (in fact over protective in many occasions) that to read of such a shocking event is unusual to say the least. Whatever the circumstances may the poor lad RIP and the perpetrator of this shocking crime get everything that he deserves.

Extraordinary? Really? I have always had the opinion that child abuse runs through many societies and the only thing that should surprise is how far the adult criminals go. As noted in the article, the first hospital she went to, with her battered child in her arms, sent her to another hospital. There is your gentleness to young kids. I guess money rules even for broken children.

horrible story, The Hospital should be ashamed of themselves as should the mother for letting it go on so long. As for the piece of garbage who beat the child - I hope he gets what he deserves

  4. As tourist in Chiang Mai the only hotels we used in the old city were Top North 2 and Karenthip village; simple, cheap and clean hotels with pools near Thapae gate.

Feeding your kids to a python, I mean getting there picture taken with one, sounds like a good idea.... :shock1:

Just got back from Wangburapa hotel also very near Thae Pae gate - nice and clean with pool around 750 per night through agoda -

let the kids drive round in a tuk tuk while you drink in the bars in Loi kroi road -

  5. Does anyone know of someone or some company which, for a fee, will chip wood you bring them?

That's what the machine in the photos was being used for. If I see them again, I will get a phone number for you. Hopefully other TV members can recommend a service as well.

would my Wife fit into one of these?

    • Haha 1
  6. I have my best experience from Queen Sirikit hospital in Sattahip,

referred to here as navy/military hospital i assume.

I agree - fantastic place and not just there to screw you and send you home with bags of overpriced meds.

  7. Had a burger at Mikes a few days ago and that bad boy was sitting in my stomach 6 hours later. But it did taste good

I tried "Mikes" twice before - could not believe the grease on the burger - disgusting, I thought it might be a one off so did try again and it was the same greasy mess - never again.

  8. It is surprising people just don't recycle the plastic bottles they use and fill them up at the Iso water machines. I have yet to buy one bottle of water in this crisis we keep 60L worth of storage 6LX10 plus another 15 in 1.5L bottles. I keep the 6L's filled constantly cost me 4 Baht(4 x 1.5L). To all those people raising their prices what do you expect? They have a lot more to lose. Its cruel but they pull this kind of stuff on us everyday. The flip side of this is the huge number of people helping. I have been helping at the stadium in Bang Kapi and it is amazing how many people are bringing in 10,000's of baht worth of food, water, medicine. Businesses are incurring a lot of extra costs I am sure those brick walls don't come cheap and they serve no other purpose other than flood protection. They are a preventative expense and hence no financial gain only financial asset protection.

Well done, I think you are correct and I have seen it myself in times of crisis here in Thailand, I think the vast majority of people are decent and help each other more during problems. I have been sponsoring 2 children at an Orphanage for years and I am amazed by the generosity of people who contribute to the upkeep of the place. The amount of times I have seen normal Thai people arrive and give food / gifts and time to the kids is heart warming. Farangs are also involved and donate time / money and food also - there are decent people everywhere don't let a few people cloud the big picture.

  9. It should say some people are gouging! We are open and free to all affected at our Inn for as long as it takes in Pattaya! All rooms are 2 room suites and comes with 15 new Thai friends. New Slogan: Pattaya City of Angels wink.gif ( We have been full since yesterday.) They were falanged in a good way!

Good for you, where is your place I will happily drop in and buy a few drinks. I am sure you will build goodwill with your actions and make some new friends. superb

  10. "The prime minister must show leadership. This is an opportunity for her to showcase her abilities for problem solving, and to act decisively," he said.

    This is a great quote!

As they have refused any help from other sources I would be surprised if they let the opposition help out.

I am prepared to be surprised though.

sadly a true statement - get over yourself and accept help where offered

  11. Hi, I am also a newbie and not yet living in CM (still waiting on completion) but have some good friends there already,It is I think one of the finest places in Asia to live,

I can highly recommend Chiang Mai properties.

    http://chiangmaiproperties.co.th/

I have found them to be thoroughly professional and a fantastic help in many ways - hope you get settled soon and enjoy the City, best wishes

  12. uh..I would hang out in Pattaya and enjoy yourself there.

Make a beeline for Suvarnabhumi and clear out.

Heading into central bangkok might be dry, but where is the festive mood?

I had a buddy in Pattaya want to take a 4.5 hour bus trip to Buriram. I told him to head to U-Tapao and fly to Buriram.

He took the bus...trip ended up taking 14.5 hours! Egads.

I sit still, then make a beeline to clear out.

    My song satang (2 cents).....

I think this is probably excellent info - hopefully you can do Bangkok next trip, safe travels

  13. Check out mealsonwheels4you

    That's the best choice.

I know you said 'decent' delivery places but in an emergency...

    KFC - Phone 1150

    Pizza Hut - Phone 1150

    Pizza Company - Phone 1112

Yes I realize I will be shot down for even considering those options. :D

Ha ha - thanks I must admit to eating pizza hut and company and I quite like it ! I used meals on wheels and it was ok - thanks to everyone, any new updates appreciated

  14. I am a expat who has retired here because I like the country and the people. The money is not a issue. I put in the time and th effort to get here. I don't complain about the exchange rate and I certainly don't want to meet you.

Life is to good here to wast on narrow minded people. Ulysses G had it right on for you.

    +1

  15. There's also a tasty one behind CMU (Lang Mor) up Suthep Road, probably opposite soi 5 or so, a good 75 m before the final entrance gate to the university. I forget the price, 49 or 59 B, and the guy there shakes on a very aromatic blend of pepper and other spices. You can hardly walk by without wanting one. he sets up about 5 pm every day.

Are you saying there is a tasty guy who gives you a shake for 49Baht?

  16. I'm probably guilty as charged, every other farang I meet seems to be ex CIA or SAS or trying to sell me something so I tend to avoid them. I've met some good people out here but it's hard seperating the wheat from the chaff sometimes.

Saying that if someone offers me a hello, I'll return it :)

LOL - I have also met a few "SAS" guys "Millionaires" and "gangsters" what a bunch of wanke_rs - Now as soon as I see a ponytail or who dares wins tattoo I exit.

  17. Hi,
