Safetywing travel insurance appears to cover everything a regular health plan does -- worldwide (except home country), not just travel but also health issues, outpatient as well as inpatient, Covid cover, etc. Or am I missing something?
I'm thinking about getting it for several months, then perhaps switching to regular plan.

I just realized -- If in my plan to eventually convert to Non-O, if I don't get a re-entry on my OA extension when I go abroad in July (family matter), then I take the risk that I may not be able to return to Thailand as planned in December if Covid still keeps borders closed to all but Thais and holders of long-stay extensions. Correct?
By any chance could I get a re-entry just in case and have the Thai consulate cancel it if it turns out I don't need it to return to Thailand?
Thanks.

As he wrote it is needed to apply for a 90 day non-o visa entry at immigration unless the 800k baht has been in the bank for a long time (but some office may still want the proof).
Does CW require this proof? My 800,000 has been in bank for several years for OA extension, but I doubt I could get documentation that it was originally transferred from abroad. And if proof required, what kinds of proof are accepted? This is what is meant by Immigration Non-o requirements document clause 5.3 -- "evidence of foreign currency fund transferred to Thailand," correct? Or is that a separate thing?

Is it easy to change booking if needed and change at any time? Is there limit to number of changes, etc.?
Since it is a booking, it should not matter what time you book, correct? I had been going (walk-in) in morning, but prefer late afternoon.
This for Non OA extension if that makes any difference.
Thanks.

Same requirements as getting one at a immigration office. But no need for a TM8 form, passport copies and a photo if you pay a 250 baht service charge.
The re-entry permit desk is after security before the departure immigration desks in departure zone 2.
You have to get one before departure from the country. There is no place to get one outside the country.
The 250 service charge -- that's so that they fill out the form, make copies, take photo for you? And on top of the regular re-entry permit fee if get at CW (1,000 single/3,800 multlple)?
How much time should I allot to this at airport? Usually what's the queue like? And it's open whenever airport is?
Thank you for your help.

I hold US passport and live in Bangkok.
I'm doing my annual OA extension next month and in August will be going to Hong Kong before returning to Thailand in December. Is there any reason at all why I shouldn't return visa exempt and convert to O when I return? I'd need to decide before my trip because I'd have to get a re-entry to keep OA active or not get one in order to nullify it and enter visa exempt. (BTW, Hong Kong does not issue O for retirement.)
I know O has the no-insurance-needed advantage. But does it have any disadvantages compared with OA? Last year, when I returned from Hong Kong, they allowed OA holders to enter Thailand weeks before O holders. That made me uncertain about switching. And could we expect OA-type insurance requirement added to O in near future?

Would someone who has recently done non-OA based on retirement at CW pls confirm if they wanted to see your latest 90-day receipt?
And if so, if they were satisfied when you showed postal tracking proof and explained you hadn't received approval document?
Thanks.

It is now almost 2 months since I mailed my 90-day report and still no receipt received and no answers to my emails, calls, etc. I'd prefer not to go to MTT due fear infection, long distance. I have tracking proof I sent it and they received. I am doing OA extension (based on retirement) at CW in a month. What if I still don't get approval receipt by then? Do I need to show it when doing extension?
Thank you for advice.

I read about this proposal from Public Health Ministry a few weeks ago. Has anyone seen any development since? I am abroad and planning to re-enter the country in coming weeks and wondering if it is worthwhile to wait -- I assume shorter period would significantly reduce cost of ASQ.

The clerk issuing queue ticket will sort you out.
BTW what date does your insurance policy start and what date are you applying for extension.
I haven't heard back from insurance co. yet re my (just-sent) application, so will apply as soon as I receive the policy. They said they can start policy on day it is approved. My stay extension expired a couple of weeks ago; I assume it will be not be problem to extend under the amnesty.

They will do it at immigration.
Did you receive letter along with pp
Yes, US embassy letter asking Immigration to "bearer's immigration stamp" from old to new passport. I'm wondering, for that, do I need to go to a different counter at CW to get this done before going to Non O-A stay extension counter? Or do I just show up at Non O-A counter with both passports?
-
I just got a new passport. will be extending my non OA based on retirement at CW. Wondering, do I need to do anything such as transfer anything from the old to new passport before I head to the counter for extension? Or will they do that at extension desk? Thanks.

Passport.
Completed form TM7.
Copies of photo page and any other pages with a Visa or stamps.
Copy of TM6.
Proof of address, such as signed copies of the house owners Tabien Baan and ID card, rental contract.
Map pinpointing house location.
2 x 6x4cm passport photos.
Proof of meeting the financial requirements.
Would someone who has just done extension of Non O-A based on retirement, that this list is complete and no TM30 anymore? And proof of financial requirements the same as last year -- copies of bank book pages showing seasoned 800,000 over the course of one year and letter from Bangkok Bank downstairs?

Thank you to all for helpful advice.
I will try to extend my O-A. (By the way, to respond to one question, it would be my 5th or 6th annual extension.)
Thanks for pointing out that leaving with no re-entry would invalidate the stay permission. I had the impression from other forum posts that it was with a single re-entry.
However, I'm wondering if I should get a single re-entry to keep my stay alive after I leave Thailand for abroad in a few weeks -- just in case in future (in my case, in December) people with valid retirement stays are allowed in and visa exempt not. (I know they are given no preference currently.) Though that would delay my plan to convert to Non-O.

I hold US passport, live in Bangkok. my Non-OA year-stay based on retirement expired early this month and I did not extend it, since I need to depart Thailand in early August anyway and planned to come back in December visa exempt and apply for Non-O at CW. Now I'm having second thoughts and wondering if I should extend the Non-OA because of all the uncertainty around flights and borders in the future -- people in this forum say CW will extend expired Non-OA under the amnesty. One thing I'm wondering: would I have a better chance of being allowed back into Thailand in December if I'm holding a Non-OA extension than if I came in visa exempt?
And if I extend:
-- should I get single re-entry so I can convert to Non-O when I return. Or in these uncertain times, is it safer to get double or multiple? If single, the Non O-A would be invalidated as soon as I pass immigration upon arrival, correct? If I changed my mind because of new COVID circumstances, could I get another re-entry at overseas Thai consulate before flying to Thailand, or at Suvarnabhumi arrival before going to immigration?
-- For the cheaper LMG insurance recommended in this forum, what day should I have the policy start if my stay already expired? Would it need to be backdated to the expiry date (is that even possible)?
Pls excuse me, I posted related message on my situation earlier but am now asking new questions. I appreciate your advice.

Hi Almin,
I will PM you some additional information of relevance with tips/caveats on how to apply for the LMG Insurance Plan 1 (with 200K deductible) policy.
Dear Peter, Pls also PM that to me? Thanks.

Immigration does not transfer visas.
Since you apparently only have a entry from a your OA visa you can leave the country by showing both passports. They will transfer your entry stamp to the new one and stamp you out of the country in it.
The new passport came with a US embassy letter to Immigration requesting that it "transfer the bearer's immigration stamp from his/her cancelled passport to the new one." What does that refer to then? Thank you for your advice. By the way, if makes any difference, I have in old passport a Non O-A visa from 2015 that I have extended every year since except this year.
Also this in embassy website Q&A:
"Thai immigration law requires entry/exit stamps and Thai visas be transferred into new passports. After receiving your new passport, please visit any Thai immigration office to have the visa transferred. The letter to facilitate visa transfers comes standard with all passport renewals and is provided without fee."

I just got a new passport (renewal). I have an Non-OA based on retirement in my old passport. The permitted stay on it expired this past week. Making use of the amnesty, I did not extend it because I am planning to fly out soon and convert to non-O at CW when I return in a few months. In this situation, do I need to transfer the expired stay/original OA visa to my new passport?

The will do it under the amnesty. In normal circumstance they will do the extension a few days late after you pay the overstay fine.
You use the standard TM7 form to apply for it. They are done all the time when you do not qualify any extension.
Have you seen reports here of anyone whose OA stay expired but they still got their extension at CW during the amnesty? If I do this, I would need to buy the qualifying health insurance first. Do I get the health insurance backdated to start the day my OA stay expired? I don't know if insurance companies even do this.
About the T7 -- is extension granted for any stated reason whatsover, or do you have to have an "important" (medical, etc.) reason? If amnesty not extended, can I apply before July 31 (giving me extension till Aug 7, the date I plan to travel abroad), so as to avoid huge crowds on July 31?
Thank you.

Thank you for all your replies.
1. Maybe you're right that under the circumstances I should have extended my OA stay, which expired today. You say CW may still extend it since we're under amnesty. Has anyone here actually been able to do that after their stay expired, during this period? The problem is I'd need to pay several thousand baht even for the LMG insurance first -- and then may find CW won't do the extension.
2. If I don't do the OA extension, and the amnesty is not extended, is the 7-day extension of stay routinely granted? What are the requirements? Where can I find the form online?
-
I hold a US passport. My Non-OA stay based on retirement expired today and, making use of amnesty, I did not extend so I can later get a non-O, to avoid buying bad health insurance.
My questions:
1. If amnesty not extended, must I leave country on July 31 or Aug 1?
2. I had planned to go abroad Aug 7. If amnesty not extended, is there some way I can stay in Thailand that one more week? I see mention here of getting a letter from US embassy requesting immigration to extend stay. Has anyone ever done that, what does that involve?
3. I just got a new passport (renewal). I don’t need to have the now-expired Non-OA visa/extension transferred to my new passport, correct?
4. When I return to Thailand in December, I just enter visa exempt and go apply at CW for Non-O using the 800,000 I already have in my account as Non-OA requirement, correct?
Thank you for your help.

Embassy website says they have indefinitely suspended passport, etc., services. Is there any way other than via embassy I can get new passport, such as directly through State Dept? My passport does not expire until December, but my O-A stay is up for one-year extension in June. So if I can't get new passport by then, CW will only give me extension till passport validity in December, correct? Or can they give me one-year extension that can transferred into new passport when I am able to get the passport? They wouldn't deny me the extension if my passport does not have one-year validity, would they? I suppose there are others in my situation. Thanks for advice.

Should I definitely convert from OA (retirement) to O?
in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits

I am not sure about now, but consulate issued entry certificates only to Thais and long-term visa/extension holders when I returned from Hong Kong late last year.
