  1. If you get an unlimited Sim from TOT or True, AIS or DTAC they are round 700 -900 BHT for 30 days unlimited download maybe even cheaper now they all launching their 3G services. It only a 100-200 THBmore per month the the 599THB ADSL services and you stop worrying about download amounts and topups etc. that way you use the sim until you days run out have one in the draw and you back online again. I started like you on 1gb/2gb for 100Bht but soon go sick of them running out.

If you don't want to spend that much just shop around especially at the moment on the web sites and at Markets looking for the best deals.

  2. As long as the router you purchase has support VPN you’re be ok. If you looking at a permanent VPN tunnel set up from the router most domestic routers do not do this if it is VPN from the PC or Xbox setup then that is ok. Check the Box for VPN before handing over your cash. Everyone has the petlikes and dislikes. I like Linksys I was using a Linksys WAG160n on TOT 6M ADSLand it was good. Just moved and have one of the ZyXel Router that True supplyand it ok too a bit more fiddly to setup I prefer the Linksys but I not put iton the True ADSL yet as I not called to get the password yet as router comesall loaded for you from true. Others you talk with Will say Netgear etc etc. There a lot of the TPlink routers here in theshops it Chinese copy some like it I not so sure I think there a bit slower.Sorry this is a bit like buying car.

If you going to be streaming look at some test ofthe routers you like on the internet before you buy you may get some cluesthere of comparison of models.

No idea who god or bad I just did some research using Google

The equipment is really low cost so really depends what you want to watch and how much tech stuff you want to install.

As I could not put a dish up in my condo I only had a choice of True Vision (expensive) 1000 -2000BHT to set up and 1500BHT /month

    or STV 300BHT

    Because of Condo restrictions

STV BranchPhranakorn T.02-6756055 No web site

    1.Analog 56channel

    Pay permonth 350 THB.

PromotionFree setup / free 1 month

    2.Digital120 channel

-Rent the Box(first time pay 1,500 THB)

    Deposit forbox 1,000 THB.

    Openchannel 500 THB.

  4. Figures look ok to me if i am reading them correctly S/N is 33db is good and attenuation is good as well but I am no expert.

Is this the only phone on the circuit in your Condo, if there are any otherextensions unplug them? Just plug the modem into the phone socket no phonehandset. Try this is it any better? It still could be in building wiring asthere is a MDF (the termination point) in the building which can get noisy oraccidently another wire connected to it. Then there is circuit back to theexchange, and then there is the DSLAM equipment. Unfortunatelythe ADSL technology has a few points of failure which the carriers here are notthe best at tracing down the faults. The age of the cables between you and theDSLAM in the exchange can be the problem as cables deteriorate over time andbecome noisy. Some time you can get the carrier to put you on a new cablepair. Just keep trying don't give up.

  5. There are some very low cost set top boxes around some less than 1000BHT unless you want HD and PVR facilites, so you could mix to save costs. are you actually going to have 8 TVs or just installing for 8 just in case for latter. If you google Sattelite TV thailand and do a bit or research you will find a solution I am sure.

  6. The company I working for has a 10Mpbs/10Mbps Business service with TOT on Fibre on the Amata City industrial estate Rayong we have only had it 2-3 months. Very very fast and reliable except when a car crashed into a pole the fibre was strung from and it broke fixed in a 3-4 hours. Fibre is not in many part of Thailand like in other countries. Not sure about availablity to Consumers yet.

  7. I have used Voice Services SIP/VOIP on ASDLinternet here and sometimes on 3G Aircards but on 3G with air card quality definitelynot so good but it will work. Big issue will be does it time out back to your USoffice. I have mainly worked into Australia so the distance is smaller dependingwhich part of US you connecting back to. With the VPN it will make things worsebecause you have the overhead of the VPN incription as well as the internetSIP/VOIP traffic to cope with so avoid VPN if possible. Issue with Hotels and providedinternet services are they can have the necessary port blocked for theseservices to work. Skype will work but often nothing else does.

Is this a serviced office your working from if soask them what works and does not?

  8. Forgot to say True are currently offering Free phone line installation if you re not got a phone line already (even if it a TOT line) and Free Wifi Router on the 599 Bht/month plan no install fee at all. You only pay the monthly fee which ends up just over 700 BHT/month for 7MBps so it not too bad a deal at all. no i have nothing to do with them just work in the IT industry.

  9. You seem a little confused between 3G/Edge internetvia mobile Network on an air card and ASDL internet on the phone line.

AIS do not have 3G just yet (coming very soon).True and TOT do have 3G working in most place in Bangkok and DTAC also.

If you staying here in same condo for 6 -12 monthsit is worth getting the phone line and ADSL 590-599 BHT plus about 100 BHT permonth for phone line. The speed will be much better than 3G, downloads areunlimited and much less variability (Jitter) for Skype or other VOIP servicesif you’re calling back home etc. I have used both TOT and True in Bangkokin the last 12 months and I say their much the same in performance. You willfind some times your condo has done a deal with one provider or the other.

  10. I am use BitTorrent in Bangkok on TOT ADSL and itis not blocked but I keep seeing post from ops that say it is. Do you get thesame slow downloads with BiTorrent if you try to us it? Please remember also there has been aninternational gateway routing performance issue with TOT since about Friday maybe longer which may also most certainly be affecting your Torrents speeds. Ialso have changed my primary DNS to not be TOT's I found using 8.8.8.8 (GoogleDNS) and TOT as secondary and tertiary you can get different results but I not reallysure why!

  11. What is available will depend on the area you live in but I think the TOT 6M ADSL at 590THB/month is hard to better for value for money you need to pay a bit of 100THB/month for a phone line as well if you not got one. I have read bad things about True internet in this forum so I check if that the way you want to go. Most of the issues you hear about here are more about the age and quality of the cooper cabling so if your in a good newer area it wil be fine if it an older area ask around as you may find it less than 100% reliable. I am in Sathorn in a new part so it very good other part could be bad.

I think there are other ISPs doing 590THB a month for 6M but I have not used them so maybe other OPS can give us their options on those ISPs as well.

  12. Your Aircard is OK for 3G at 3.6Mbps better cards are 7.2Mpbs or Faster.Happy are DTAC so they do not have 3G (It not you aircard that is the proble it DTAC) throughout Bangkok DTAC only GPRS andEdge (slow) same for AIS/12call. True also as yet do not have 3G did have somesort trail in some areas. Only TOT or a resell has 3G in Bangkok as of todaybut coming soon if they get politics and infighting get sorted.

I have used www.iec3g.com, www.mojo3g.com, www.365.co.th and there aremore but I don't know their names. They are all TOT resellers. I was getting 2GB/30day for 100THB or unlimited for 890THB/30days but it looks like it got moreexpensive now from quick look on the web

I have put TOT 6m ADSL on for 590THB/month much more reliable faster andunlimited downloads if you got a phone line In a TOT ADSL Area.

  13. Sorry did not realise this was on the CDMA network in fact I had not read the post properly and realised it was Chiang Ma or not within the 3G "trial areas". Interesting to see what will happen with the CDMA network in it current format once the carrier have rolled out their 3G offering mind you it could be a long time!
