  1. I would be scared if they started going through my pockets.. Are there any stories of them planting stuff ?

Empty your pockets yourself. Pull out the front ones and let them just feel the back ones. I don't allow anyone to put his or her hands into my pockets, or backpack.

  2. I am looking for a single ring cooker for condo. Does anyone know if you are allowed gas bottle in condos, I have seen small bottles about a ft high which would fit nicely with a gas burner ring attached?

If not I might give the induction ring a try as need to buy pans anyway.

Just smuggle it in, and when the gas runs out, do the same thing to get a refill. That was what I used to do back in the days.

  3. Buy a wok adapter ring that you can place over the flat burner. This will allow you to use woks and other round-bottomed cookware just fine.

I use all kinds of pots and pans with induction hobs, never had a problem. Obviously they must be flat but I don't see what the 'magnetic' business is about - aren't most metal pans magnetic?

short answer, effectively no. aluminium and copper in particular won't work, and not all stainless steel works. rather than going into the physics of it, if you're considering buying a pot just take a magnet with you to the shop (as PennyFarthing123 mentioned above).

a question: i've heard that wok-shaped induction cooking surfaces exist, anyone seen one/used one/priced one?

(dredged up this old thread as i'm considering buying an induction burner myself)

Yes, they do exist. Try Big C or Tesco Lotus.

  4. Sorry if there is confusion. Embassy was closed on xmas when this took place and her mother is Thai (living in Bangkok now), the police took her word and did not care for proof. Im sure she can prove she is her mother. i have the custody/divorce agreement with me here (at home) but did not have them during the visit in Thailand. i fought with her all day, no one even seemed concerned for my daughter.

I appreciate your reply. I am in the military, dont have the time to spend another month (ever how long it would take) for courts. If that happens to be the only way, Im afraid my daughter will be missing the rest of her school year and I will have to come back in a few months.

I was hoping it would be as simple as showing authorities my proof of custody and having my daughter returned immediately so we could come back home.

    Thanks again for replying.

Sorry man. just try to always have scanned copies of such documents saved in the cloud, or even your e-mail as draft. I use Dropbox and Ubuntu One.

  5. Never use PayPal with unknown individuals, only with companies or individuals whose name you recognise and trust.

PayPal payments can be reversed and you have absolutely no come-back on it.

Can you elaborate a bit on that last sentence.

You might think that a credit on your PayPal account is money in the bank but it isn't. It can be removed by them at any time (or indeed they can freeze your account) and you would find it extremely difficult to correspond with them about it.

Accepting money via PayPal is very similar to having Visa/Mastercard merchant status; you basically sign all your rights away and rely on PayPal to do the right thing. Unfortunately they dont have a good track record on this.

I canceled both my pay pal and eBay accounts after $1 was withdrawn from my Kasikorn account without me buying anything. I'll never use both again.

  6. There are many subjects that are taken by students all over the world that probably aren't needed or used.

Thai's are capable of learning English just as well as any other group. The difficulty is that it requires constant, consistent education by reasonably well-qualified teachers.

For Thai learners, the linguistic distance between English and Thai is rather great, different sounds, different alphabet, tonal system etc. .

Interesting.I accept these good points but remain a bit puzzled why China and Vietnam, with no British colonial tradition to build on, remain so more advanced than Thailand in English language skills. The Nation article (one has got used to the rather pointless political slant which hardly seems relevant on this issue) also seems a little confused at first accepting that better teachers are needed and then suggesting that English proficiency is less important than "knowing one's own country" whatever that means. This is just making a dubious virtue out of a necessity. The reality is that Thailand needs urgently to upgrade its English language skills not just to interreact better with ASEAN but also with the wider regional and global community.I am sure I'm not the only one who has attended international conferences where the Thai delegation has been a silent presence. At first I put it down to cultural factors, a natural diffidence.I now believe it's equally about poor English language skills (the Thai accent is not important:personally I find it rather charming).

It's very necessary for Thai students to know about Thailand. Believe it or not, I've had to teach my grade twelve students about the Chao Phraya River, and even basic Thai history. I usually relate topics in our text book to Thailand. The truth is, they really don't know.

  7. Until ordinary Thai parents value education like the Chinese, Japanese and Koreans, nothing will happen.

Until Thai students realise that just turning up for an English class doesn't make them an English speaker and that they actually have to work, nothing will happen.

Until Thai students ask questions freely without presuming loss of face by doing so, nothing will happen.

    Well said.

  8. Not a very French sounding name.

Maybe its the west African immigrants that a littering phuket at the moment skimming atms.

    Good riddance to bad trash

How come every time an European is caught here for crimes committed here or back home, there are always people pointing out the fact that the name doesn't sound European, like in this case, French? When these immigrants win medals or trophies at the Olympics or world cup, they're Europeans.

  9. Seems to me, now that to OP has asked here on this open forum and gotten no solid input about the Russian psychic, he should just pay her a visit and report back. Couldn't hurt, could it?

It is 5000 Baht for 1.5 hours so always good to ask local in the chance people have been.

I want to go, just hoping next few days someone else posts their exp. with her.

    Thanks !

What do you really want to know? It's very easy for any diviner to tell you dates to get you to believe, but I can't really go into that here. In the nineties, there were many prophetesses in Russia that were gifted. They could tell you things through prayer sessions, and those were things you could easily discern from your dreams ( in my own case and my then fiancée ).

The only person that can tell you about your future is you. You just have to pay close attention to your dreams ( that depends on if you're very spiritual ).

  10. I believe she was given the go ahead previously based on the assumption that she'd complete her grade 12 studies before graduation. Is there any chance of that happening?

Don't think so. Again it could be with this new rule in place or just someone higher/in another place saying no.

Many of my grade ten students are preparing to apply for pre-degree studies. This allows them to start studying now, but they will not be allowed to graduate if they don't finish grade 12.

  11. Yeah the nation trying to twist their cheap propaganda on all the bomb scares issues to the red shirts. Yellows and their allies are saints. We hear ya AVUDH PANANANDA and The Nation.

When have the yellows or their allies been involved in any bombings?

why would they? they are all saints...aren't they? They have never been involved in any violent act too...they fight for democracy and equitable rights for all Thais.

I really would like to know exactly when the yellows or their allies have been involved in any bombings. please do tell.

  12. I had an accident with my Proton Persona before returning it to my ex and Falcon Insurance approved everything right on the spot. And when my ex contacted the repair shop and the insurance, they agreed to follow through because the car's in her name and it's a first class insurance.

  13. I know the password for the accounts and her dad doesnt speak much english. Not sure whats weird about that.

The weird thing is that you ask questions here on a internet forum about your personal gf problems. Better you ask your parents what to do.

I doubt the parents have delt with any kind of madness which is a Thai girl. I had exactly the same problem, but more extreme with the girl cheating and smoking meth in my bathroom! I even had a new girlfriend move in to live with me 8 months after I broke up with my ex-gf but she still persist on coming around so was forced to change condo. One night I went to the security because she forced herself into the room and I couldnt get her out, the security wouldn't do anything.

Even after my landlord told the security not to let her or her car, the useless security still kept letting her in. Honestly they're useless.

Best bet is to go away on holiday, buy a lock thing to put over your door handle with pad lock and hopefully she doesn't come around and call a lock smith, talk with your landlord, they will try to help as much as possible because they want you to keep being a tenant. If you have a good thai friend, make a complaint to the police too.

I've had to start all over four times here. The same girl took all my stuff twice with the help of the landlord and neighbors. How did she know I bought everything just after one week of robbing me? The neighbors called her.
