  1. Seems a lot of posts are again judging and comparing Buddhism with their, no doubt well read Old Testimony of the Bible, Jewish/Christian/Muslim indoctrination, or mear imaginations. Maybe even having visions of Charlton Heston holding the two tablets containing the Ten Commandments in one hand and a rifle in the other. Buddhist monks are not Catholic monks. From what I gather he has done little wrong relative to HIS faith, especially if he uses the money as per his quote.

But when ignorance is bliss, you'd be folly to be wise.

Re The number of deaths in the Philippines. Between 30th June and 26th  August this year, 1,900 deaths by shooting and leaving the body where it was shot, along with a note to say words to the effect, "This is what happens when you take drugs".

If your interested, go to the BBC website, and search:

"Phillipines drug war: Woman who kills dealers for a living".

Theres a video, approx 5 mins, that outlines this.

What are  the medicinal uses ogovernmenthat a weird waGeneralthis... st arting with meth.

To wean addicts off a drug unfortunatly we have to use another drug and reduce that one slowly until the addict is clean.

It's called "Substance Replacement Therapy". Here are some Drugs and their replacement examples, but not limited too do so:

    Alcohol repaced by Diazipam (Valium)

    Heroin replaced by Methodone

    Hope you get the idea.

But with methamphetamine (Ya ba, or Ya maa) there is no available replacement drug that can be reduced in the minute quantities required, and therefore we use the initial drug itself, and under strict medical supervision (The reason for declassifying it so that it cann be prescribed) .

As isaid in another thread, all of this is not exclusively a Thai goverment instigated approach, but a fall in line to the outcomes of the recent United Nations Geneeral Assembly Special Session on Drugs (UNGASS).

The man shouts an Islamic san, in Arabic, that is often sho uted by Islamic terrorists as they attack and kill non Muslims, whilst he attacks and murders non Muslims.

Yep, no sign of any extremism there. Aussie cops are either dumb or totally controlled by their political masters.

Your kind pick on Thai police for hastingly jumping to conclusions when events lead to deaths. Now your picking on Australian police for not jumping to "your" obvious conclusion. Lets, be honest and admit that it's not the hast or delays that get to you, but the opportunity to have a go at criticizing others on racist grounds alone.

  6. Thailand is only following towards the recommendations made by the recent outcome document of the UN General Assembly's Special Session on Drugs (UNGASS). Most other countries, inc the USA, UK, Europe, Australia are doing the same (Not Russia). This is a move away from the War on Drugs, which the same General Assembly voted for in 1998, and towards the Harm Reduction model which has been so successful in Portugal since 2001. It takes the approach that drug addiction is a health issue and not a criminal issue. So why pick on Thailand alone, when most of our country of origin are doing the same, Thai knocking and ignorance of the Portuguese model springs to mind.

Thailand went to War on Drugs in a big way, under Thaksin in 2003, when thousands died.

President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philipines was recently elected on the War on Drugs issue, as a result, since 30th June til 26th August this year, more than 2000 people have been killed. In both these cases the murders of innocent people has been conducted by corrupt officials, who justified them, under the guise of War on Drugs.

I congratulate the Thai government on joining most of the world on combating this Health issue.

Note: Decriminalizing drugs is NOT the same a Legalizing drugs. Hence trafficking etc will still be illegal, as will having an access of drugs far beyond personal use.

They could try following the Portugese eample!

In facIMF,   recent as last weekfreee WHO and the UN cokntries which originally introduced The War on Drugs in 1998, remet for the 1st time since, with the view of adopting their example. Russia was one who would not agree to "harm minimalising". The Portuguese method takes the approach that drug addiction is a health issue and not a leagal one, and in 2001, took the responsibility away from their goverment Legal dept and into their Health dept. They decriminalized, not legalized , the use of drugs. Since Portugal have free health for all this system has worked well, but this  free health, is not the case in Russia they voted against change. I thiink, we should "watch this space", and hope that poor nations find a way to finance their Health system and make it free.

Footnote, with Portugal have to borrow, but finding it hard to repay money to the EU and imf, this system is under pressure at this point in time.

Desoxyn is methamphetamine, as you alude to, and is used to treat ADD and AHDD and would as you say be a suitable "replacement therapy" for amphetamine (ya ba) addiction. The problem is that this medication is made by the pharmaceutical companies and distributed in set tablet doses...2-5, 10 mg for example. It therefore makes it harder to gradually reduuce the addicts dosage in the fine amounts required until he/she were completly weaned off it. In most people eyes, we would say, ok supply it in powder form, the same

as ya ba , but pharmaceutical companies being what they are don't do this.

  12. A life style change means that whatever you choose to adapt, the you stick to your routine religiously. There for choose an exercise program that you enjoy,....if you don't enjoy it, irrespective of the cost, you will not make it par of your life. From your OP it seems to me that cardiovascular training is your objective, and there is no easier way to do this than walking. It needs no training as it comes natural to us all. Your rout can vary, as can your distance, hence adding variety to ward off boredom. It costs very little, just a good comfortable pair of walking shoes. If your in the countryside then taking a camera with you may lead to some nice photos and add interest to your walk. As does walking with family and friends.

Cardiovascular exercise, for promoting/recuperating from heart disease does not encourage resistance training, such as weight lifting, so joining a gym restricts you to the treadmill, bike and possible swimming, which is another good form of cardiovascular exercise, but take longer to achieve the same results as walk-in, but their combinations have pleasant outcomes.

Whichever exercise program you chose, may I wish you health and happiness from it.

60/70A per-phase or total? Is that taking diversity into account?

Don't forget Thailand is 220V so your 60-70A is 13 - 16 kW! (assuming total from the above question)

Any way of reducing that requirement, gas water heaters perhaps?

You're unlikely to get anything bigger than 45A single-phase so yes, if your load is correct you need 3-phase.

1.5km is a long run at 220V so you may have to factor in a transformer too (assuming 25kV is available nearer) :(

Your best bet is actually to head to your local PEA office armed with a map and a Thai speaker, you should come away with a ball-park figure.

EDIT But do try and do a proper prospective load calculation if you haven't already. Use the northern Aussie diversity calculations (close to what we have here), you may be surprised just how low you can go :)

You could considean off grid solar system. and tan be  ecconomic is a long way from  PEA connection.

A solar system supplying 60 - 70 amps (Remember Solar systems supply D.C.) so a large inverter woul also be needed as well as a large battery bank for dc storage Z for night. This sounds impractible and very expensive excercise.in Thailand

Take all your detail, as suggested by Cross #5, to the PEA . The distance will also determine the cost, cable size , transformer etc. So dont expect a fast inexpensive exercise. Best of luck.

  15. My wife works up north, two kms from the Myanmar boarder, she felt the tremors at approx this time. She stayed in her office and phoned me in Chiang Mai to tell me. She decided to wait in her office until no aftershocks were apparent, before driving her motorcycle home. At the time she had no idea where it had taken place, but thought it may have been Myanmar.

Charoen is a big no, no,no. The eye test is very basic, no glaucoma etc.

They seem to have many polite people to open the door for you, and lovely ladies smiling in their droves, BUT the prices are well over the top if you decide to test and buy totally from them. The advice given re taking your own frames if complex lenses are required, is good. Also for simple reading glasses, take the advice on China Town. Just make sure you check each pair in turn for the correct prescrption, and for mechanical sturdiness.

In Thailand .very possible, sw occ and each beingfauls from a diffbiasederent Caucasian (Western) country.

In the early days (fifty years ago) lived in single house in the country but when the locals started crowding in decided to move into a complex owned 50% by foreigners (Westerners) I have nothing against Thais but that is not always  how it is with Thais and a Farang.   The word Farang comes from the word Francais.

The word “farang” the Thais bastardized from the French word “Francais” which they heard the French speak when the French controlled Indochina and the Thais hated them. Which word the Thais pronounce as

    Fa‑rang‑sed

Which the Thais then shortened to “farang”.

If Thais are polite they refer to the country of the person i.e. like they do with a person from Japan, "Khun yipoon, China Khun cheen, English Khun anglish, American Khun sahalat and so forth.

Unfortunately nearly all Western foreigners think the word Farang is a honorary title bestowed by the Thais on Caucasians.

Have a nice time in LOS.

You seem to take some well known facts, but then, unfortunately you let your own biased thoughts and interpretations mould them into something that you wish to have others faulsly believe. Hence it became misinfomation. I think you already know this.

    Totally agree with your remarks.

From what i know of the area, Suan Dok Rd, in Suthep, has many fine facillities inc hospitals, government and private, a large well equipped modern dental complex, all of which are served by highly qulified experts and serve as the training/internship facilities for the Chiang Mai University medical students. The area is a far cry from the one assumed and degrenigated in earlier posts.

Also, assumed by pervious is the nationality and general make up of the perpertrators, who have yet to be announced by the police. OK, maybe the odds are in v fafvour, re the nationalities, but the outstanding ommissions in most replies, is the lack of remorse and compassion towards the victim, his friends and his family. This is recurrent on tv.
