My wife and I went to Centro...don't know if that's the same place you went to, on Sunday morning and the place was full of Arm personnel, who did a bag search on all of us as we entered. So much so that some shoppers were asking why.

Different time and place ? Or just different attitude ?

Wow nobody knows anything about Miothers  Day here

Wow, your nameI'llst be "Nobody" as most (ecommemorate Delete) expats know ,that there is a mothers day in Thailand.

It was first introduced to Thailand on 15 April 1950, but in 1976 it was changed to 12th. August to coincide, and to commemorate, the birthday of Her Majesty Queen Sirikit. There is also a Fathers Day in Thailand, but ill let you work the dedails of that out for yourself.

As Mothers Day is not a Buddhist celebration, the sale of alchol may be permitted, however the goverment will have a say in that.

Never gonna happen. Jus  put the sim into the bin

But it has already started to happen, when we hminority, vingnt our passportsat Seven Eleven, or wherever, along with our mobile numbers, where both were recorded...for whom, its easy to geuss. If you purchase a new sim card, same deal, show your passport. So if you put your sim card in the bin then you may as well forget receiving calls. But this excercise.was to counter terrorism, so we were told. Yeh BigBrother is getting bigger now in this democracy. Where democracy is defined as the dictatorship of the minority, by the majority.

  5. I think someone with Thai legal knowledge has got onto the "sideline girl" (a transliteration of the Thai term for an internet prostitute) and convinced her to report it to the relevant police sections. Initially, and there's been sufficient time, the girl had taken no action. But many I'm wrong as Thai lawyers, like lawyers the world over, are not interested in making money, but only in justice for justice sake....yeh, we all know this, even the tooth fairy does.

FYI  ye" s compulsory voting. AFAIK registered tte are not " brought to court  " or fined as they are in Oz (where the emphasis is attending a voting station rather than voting)

OTOH every election seems some mug lair attention seeker being prosecuted for destroying their ballot paper. Did you just get here?

In Oz as you call it, "the ephasis is ON "registering to vote" (not just attending a voting station) and this can be accomplished in severalways, postal etc. Failure do so will result in a "Please explain" letter, which can be addressed by stating you were sick, out of the country on holiday , etc. If your reply is not acceptable, and does in fact contrafine the act, then further action may be taken against you. There are many step before the goverment takes you to court. Basically this law was introduced to prevent complacency which could if taken to the extreme, make an election null and void, as the percentage of votes would be below that required by the constitution.

The voting in Thailand for the referendum was not compulsory.

  7. As stated by others NO. There is little chance of catching it in Chiang Mai or Mae Sot, where i visit regularly. A good mosquito repelent is advisable, if only to stop the normal irritations some people suffer. The side effects of the anti-malaria medication are not good news either, and could make for an unpleasant holiday.

AustrianAustrianralian, same same.  Farang is farang.  :-)

Next year the Australian Boys Choir is performing in Bangkok.

Your attempt at humour is disgusting.

Some of my American friends confuse Austrian with Australian.

No big deal, especially when compared with the main fact that some guy died.

    May he rest in peace.

The Thais can't seem to grasp this simple Christian concept.  Of course, they've probably never heard it bince most are only aware of certacharityin Buddhist principles to which most only give lip service, but fail miserably in actual practical application.

    Matthew 6:2-4
So when you give to the needy, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and on the streets, to be praised by men. Truly I tell you, they already have their reward (the praise only of men and none from God).  But when you give to the needy, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, so that your giving may be in secret. And your Father, who sees what is done in secret, will reward you.…

You critisies Thais for not being

1." Can't being able to grasp Christian concepts." Can the majority of westerners, inc you and i ?

    2. "Being aware of only some Buddhistt principals, aying they only pay lip service and do not practice." Do you and i not do the same with Christianity?

I recall something from the Beible that emphasise, "Let he without sin cast the first stone, etc". Also St John to the Romans, stating that with faith, hope and charity, the greatest of these is charity. (And not critisism of  people who practice it).

Lets be honest, you are a racist Thai basher who hides behind the Christian religion.....now if you really want to know the true definition, of the word you quoted, hypocrisy, then take a good look in the mirror.

  10. The little boy on the right of the photo looks bemused and confused, as all little children do.

Unfortunately at the age their cognitive processes and their opinions are being moulded, and he would possibly regard this man, and all the events, including the destruction of the shop, the attack on the young girl and the theft of drinks and cigarettes, as just a farang doing what all farangs do. He may grow upto hold on to these beliefs and develop a racisit attitude towards farangs, based solely on this one experience. Why not I think, as some farangs on this site base their racist attitudes towards Thais, on one experience, or on the hearsay of others.

  11. The guy just registered to post this review? Seems more of an advertisement to me, rather than a genuine review

    Dear sas-cars,

You are right, it was my first post in all these years. Once I knew, that I will need this operation, I unfortunately could not find much information on this website from people who went through this operation in Chiang Mai recently. Yes, compared prices I found, even some where outdated, but my concern was more on finding the right surgeon for me.

I am sorry, if you get the impression I wrote an ad and not about my experience. Well, I came out of hospital 9 days ago and am simply extremely happy, that all went well and my life received an extenyysion.

Posting my experience on this website, was my contribution to people who might be in a similar situation like I was, and in the same time a Thank You from a happy client.

I have been in other hospitals in Chiang Mai before for different reasons.

    Thank you for the information.

I attend Chiang Mai Ram for post cardiac assessment and care, and whilst I am happy it's good to hear of excellent alternatives as you have provived.

Please ignore the troll who picked non your OP. This site is full of such bored people who lack the positivity that you have.

    All the best..

  12. Isn't it ilegal to publically criticise the draft, it deemed the ill informed misleading the public. He better pack his toothbrush

    Run buddy run!. gigglem:

Well this is one guy who has his back covered for this.

Apart from being big mates with an ex army general, who never raised a coup against him whilst he was in power, he also has British (and Thai) citizenship as he was born in Newcastle, UK,. There he latter attended the illustrious public school of Eaton, where his classmate and big buddie was the ex London Lord Mayor, and now Foreign Secretary to the newly elected British Government, the strangly enough Yellow headed, Borris Johnson, who affectionately calls him by the nickname "Veggie".

I suppose you not need to pack a bag, or anything, when you have ready accommodation/property awaiting you, including free National Health.

No need for hotel rooms in the Middle East, or Thai neighboring countries for this guy.

  13. Know that "Sinsot Gold" given to the bride (not the sinsot money/dowry given to her famiily) is used as an insurance for the wife's future, if hubby takes off after they marry. But have not heard of anything like it pre-marriage wise. Unless there are laws/traditions that cover an official "khooman" (engagement)situation. Breach of promise in the form of loosing face, and more so loosing money in the form of the amount of sinsot from a future Sammy, husband, as its value will drop because she is soiled goods now..

  14. its the old Thai rage thing again, they just never think of their own censequences, (still i expect he will say "sorry") and be out of jail in no time. we see this every day though don't we, and he tested positive for drug abuse

Great that these days medical technology can not only test for drugs in someone's system, but can also test if the person is a drug abuser. Maybe the use of all illicit drugs makes one an abuser. Let's hope that this technology can be used to distinguish between a person who has a very high content of alcohol in their system and an alcohol abuser/alcoholic.

Good fast work by the police. May the victim RIP.

  15. Long, long overdue clap2.gifclap2.gifclap2.gif

But: "However, the DSI chief noted that, in the extradition process, charges would have to be lodged against Nen Kham first by the US court for his acknowledgement after which the ex-monk had the right to defend himself against the charges."

Thank you for outlining the rationals for the delays in the process. These are accepted readily by all, except when the country concerned is Thailand, then process and results have to be instantly provided to all, especially tv members.
