  1. Yes it was dumb but if it was on Miami Beach or a Greek island would we thing twice NO

The Thai media however knows that these things outrages the Thai populace, because of course they have been told to be outraged. They have been told this disrespects Thailand. As such you really cannot blame them for anything they do to Farangs after you see that those farangs disrespecting Thailand.

Works really good with the Thai system of morality to justify all things done and to not have to be concerned if tourists get stomped and killed on a regular basis. They deserved it NATCH ! thumbsup.gif

Quote: "The Thai media however knows that these things outrages the Thai populace....."

    And,

This website, ThaiVisa, knows which "things" outrages the farang populace.

  2. Neighbours or ex wife, police must as always tell us who did it or was it "self inflicted" Tuicide?

Why should the police "always' tell us, English speaking, visitors to their country. Do visitors to your country demand that they be told, in their own language, about every crime that occurs in your country of origin ?

I think police in most countries operated on a "needs to know basis", and therefore we should get used to the fact, that we don't fall into that category for most of the time.

  3. If they give you an envelope invite you give them the envelope back when you arrive with some dosh in it. Up to you what you give, but 1000bht is fine, less is fine too...thumbsup.gif

Yes agree. You may also find that many Thai families keep a book/ledger on who gave/received how much, for or from another family, for a family wedding, house blessing, funeral etc. This is so that any amount given equals or exceeds the respective amount received. To give less than received is a loss of face.

  4. It's time for the Army to sort out all the police in Thailand, major cause of crime itself. When I see the Police, I see mostly corruption dressed in brown.

I take it that you already know of the relative recent history of competition between the Thai Army and Thai Police, and who the heads, and ex training buddies, of the respective forces are/were ? If so, then you must also know why it is the police, not army, that get caned and named today. A reversal of days, and leaders, gone by. Facts far outweigh fiction.

  5. It is not rocket science to see that addiction to serious drugs, like yaba, will lead to mental illness.

It is not rocket science to see that addiction to serious drugs, like yaba, will lead to mental illness.

    And visa versa.

In the country I work, the interaction and relationship of "mental health issues" and "addiction" was termed "co-morbidity". The problems arrived in the duel treatment of them as such. Addicts were detoxed and rehabilitated, without being diagnosed with a mental health issue. They would be very prone to relaps into addiction. eg, a clinical depressed person would drink alcohol to alleviate the depression. Only to end up being an alcoholic/alcohol addict. They'd get treated for the alcohol addiction, only to go home with their clinical depression and relaps into drinking. Visa versa is also true. The major problem at the time, was not having enough sufficient trained professionals in both these fields. Things are picking up, but very slowly. Mainly that many governments throughout the world, refuse to recognize them, and/or underfinance these areas.

  6. You loosing your temper, control of your own mind and behaviour, is all down to you. It is not down to your job, the country you live in, the people you work with or your family. Being angry is a natural emotion, how you handle is a matter of a previously learned behavior. So if it bothers you enough to write about it on here, then it has reached a stage where you should consider relearning it.as it's not helping your health, let alone other things Note, anything that has been learned can be relearned. Thailand is a great place to make people who are initially short tempered become aware of it, and with time change it.

Alcohol etc, as we all know, exasperates this negativebehaviour... So watch out for other like minded, short tempered people knocking all this and try justifying not changing, with easily predicted rants such as; "it alright for you to say this, but have you ever been in a situation where .....blah, blah and more blah".

    Well that's up to them.

You've realised a problem, therefore your on the way to rectifying it, you just need the tools...being mindful is one. In short practice "mindfulness". Best of luck.

  7. To make it clear, the room type is all the same in the building. One big room with king size bed. So I wouldn't be keen on sharing my bed with another guy unless I'm gay which I'm not.

So the question is reasonable, isn't it?

How many Thai homes have you visited? Many Thai families,, if their lucky sleep, on the same bed/mattress with a separate blanket, again if their lucky. Other family member have to do with what they can on the floor, in the same room. I refused to do this, as I felt the western stigma associated with peadophilia, which the families were all innocent of. Hence I slept in a chair in another room. Next day the village head man came to see why I was being insulting to the family. He explained the traditional background, but I still felt uneasy about it.

This culture is not just villages but also city apartments, where finance also reinforces it.

So it came as a culture shock to me initially, maybe to you when you visit a true Thai family.

It also is a bit of a shock to our farang systems when we first realise how hard the mattresses are.

  8. My one visit to Chiang Mai made me realise how good Pattaya is. Some nice old temples but won't bother going again.

Please tell you're friends not to come too...

Friends ? Don't think he has any. In fact he seems that grumpy that he doesn't even like himself.

  9. ...never a mention of charges when a Thai is arrested with a quantity of drugs.....puzzling....

Not you again ! Read the full article. He's been charged with "possession of category 1 drugs with intent to sell". Maybe you should take something to help you from opening your mouth to change feet.

  10. " Those using the degrees can face the same penalties though just having one made does not actually constitute a crime."

Having a fake degree isn't a crime if you don't use it?

    Brilliant.

If you use it, such as getting a job, you are committing fraud. Having one hanging on your wall at home is just ego and no financial damages. smile.png

But having a fake degree hanging on your wall for ego sake, is technically still using it.

  11. Dont think it's a smoking law, it's a driving law, no eating, drinking, smoking, on the phone etc. anything which can impede your driving.

Don't know about if Thailand have followed other countries, but Australia and recently the UK have both banned smoking in a car if there are children in it. With Australia a total ban of smoking in cars. The laws are based on health not driving, as the law, re children, applies even when the car engine is not running and parked.
