I have no idea about motorbikes but if you have a car then you get (I think) two hours free parking if you spend more than 100B. You have to take your receipt to the information kiosk on the second floor and they will validate your parking card. Not sure how it works if you are only going to Foodland as the kiosk is a long way from there.
All this is a complete pain and must put a lot of people off going there. It certainly discourages me from going there unless I am certain that I will get what I am going for. So that means that I now only ever go to the Royal Garden to eat at Sizzler, and for every other sort of purchase I go elsewhere. Window shopping is completely out of the question.
We used to go there too (Royal Garden), to eat at Sizzler, but now we switched to the Sizzler at Central.

I think life with a hooker/prostitute whether in Thailand or any country rarely ends well.

I have recently read good things about tumeric. Have any TV members tried it and if so your opinion? What dosage do you take?

75 and never a night in a hospital , I think your at the top of the list now .
How about Genetics , do you think it plays any part in the scheme of things
Probably so. Neither of my parents were ever hospitalized. Mother died relatively young at 62 and father died at 76.

I will be 75 in July and have never had to spend a night in a hospital. Came here in 1967 and did a lot of drinking/whoring around but I stopped both when I married my Thai wife 30 years ago. We live in Bangkok. Staying healthy, a lot has to do with your lifestyle and a bit of luck. I think exercise really helps and I get out for two hours a day of brisk walking.

My Thai neighbor here in Bangkok bought a new car about a year ago and he still has the red plates on it.

It looks like this will cover my questions about payment. This is item 8 in the Will.
I authorise that any administrator, executor or trustee of this will shall be entitled to be paid all reasonable charges for the work done by him or his firm in providing my Will and any codicil to it.

Sent my last post before I saw there will likely be a sizeable Thai bank account involved. That's a whole nother set of questions for Joe. The bank account should be in the will. Is it? The will should also have the bank details--bank name, branch, account number. Does it? Is dealing with the account part of your executor duties? Who is the beneficiary? I assume it's the beneficiary of the condo but the will needs to state this. Does it? Where is the bank book kept? Etc.
The bank account is listed in the will and the beneficiary is his sister. Where is the bank book? That's one of the questions I have for my friend as well as several others as noted in your post #42. I assume I will have a number of expenses associated with selling the condo. How do I get reimbursed? My guess is that when the condo is sold I deduct my expenses from the sale? Also am I entitled to a sales commission?
-
The condo is in his name. It's a nice place and would probably sell for around 6 million. Thanks for the info.

I understand that. But you haven't answered the question: does he ONLY have a condo here? No bank accounts, no car, no motorbike, nothing else?
Yes, only the condo. He does have a bank account but very little cash in it. For his visa he used the Embassy letter method. He will now use the B800,000 method which means he bank account will be considerably larger. Next time I see him I will talk to him about that.

Do you know if the US beneficiary would want to have the condo or the value of the condo? This could make a difference to the amount of work involved, and also the cost. Condo inheritance is treated pretty much as a sale in Thailand, so if she only wants the money you would need to arrange probate and then to sell it, so as to avoid paying more transfer tax.
Then you have the question of repatriating the money. You should probably get copies of FET forms now to help with that.
She is not interested in the condo and would want the money from its sale transfered to her in the USA. What are FET forms and where do I get them?

I dont understand. Someone else in the US will be dealing with his other Thai assets/estate under a US will? Or are you saying that he has no Thai assets/estate at all apart from the condo?
He has two wills. One covers his assets in the US. The Thai will covers his assets here in Thailand, his condo.

If it is only one Pattaya condo and nothing else then very little work. It would be unusual however for people to have only one condo and nothing else at all. Most people might also have a car, a pension, savings, bank accounts, other investments .......
He does, but that is covered by his stateside will, which I have nothing to do with.

I think most people have no idea the amount of work involved in being an Executor. It's not something to agree to do without some thought, in my opinion.

An old friend recently asked me to be the Executor of his estate here in Thailand, which consists entirely of his condo in Pattaya which he is leaving to his sister in the USA. I am one of those people that have no idea of the amount of work involved in being a Executor. Maybe you can expand a bit on the amount of work involved?

My wife and I are off to the USA for 2 months. When we return on 27 May who must complete the TM 30? Her or me? She owns the house where we live.

I am concerned with these proposed changes but will take a wait and see attitude as I just renewed my 1 year visa last week using the B800,000 route. Next year I had planned to go the married route so hoping their will be no drastic changes.

Well if you have a wife (Thai I assume) and kids then why not go the married route for your visa which only requires you to post B400,000 and can be withdrawn 30 days after the married visa is issued?

What happens to your assets if you die in Thailand with no will? For instance I own a condo in Pattaya and have an account at Bangkok Bank. If I were to die before getting a Thai will made I assume my Thai wife would eventually be able to inherit the condo and account? I intend to have a will made, it's just I haven't yet gotten around to it.

Any recommendations for a translations service in Bangkok. I need to get my USA marriage certificate and US consulate affidavit translated for MoFA. These documents will be used for renewing my 1 year visa.

Go to View Talay 2A. There is a pizza shop on the ground floor that has excellent pizza. It is run by a French guy and his Thai wife.
