1. You should try not to change your address so frequently on a long time visa.

Did you know that you are required to inform immigration or the local police within 24 hours of any movement within or outside your local province. Fortuntatly the authorities have not cracked down on this yet, but if they wanted to, they can cause you inconvenience for not following their rules.

They do crack down on and enforce that Hotels, Guest Houses, apts etc are required to report your stay there to immigration and or Tourist Police within 24 hours or face a stiff fine. Hense the copying of your passport required when checking in.

It would be mush easier on you if you did go ahead and make your move to your new residence before you apply for your new visa. there are no applicable extensions to a retirement or type O visa.

  2. Nothing says you have to stay and work. But you will have to leave Thailand and re-enter on a new non working visa.

I would not worry about cancelling the work permit since your company has refused.

If you hav a hard copy of that or in wrighting, keep it for legality sakes.

Just exit Thailand and go to a Thai Embassy and get a Tourist Visa.

  3. How far is it to the Maesai border?

If you take The "Green Bus Company" Bus from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai continue on to Mae Sai. Looks like the most comfortable bus going that routing. About 200-300 each way first class or vip.

180 Kilometers from Chiang Mai to Chiang Rai thru the mountain pass is less than a 3 hour journey.

Then Mae Sai is about an hour trip or less from Chiang Rai.

The bus probably stops at the Mae Sai bus station. From there take a songtow taxi to the border and back.

  4. Not doubting you Pomchop.
If the sign is on an inside wall and not so visable to the passing traffic, then the misses would not be able to see it.
BTW, I am out of the country at the moment, and I did look myself at some pics on the Plazza's web site of construction posted recently and was not able to see any signs even from aerial views.
But thanks for verifying Pomchop. Chiang Rai is due for a McDonald's.
Was also unable to locate McD's as one of the on-line listed vendors.
Will probably be other suprise vendors there. Says they are targeting the Mall opening April 1st.

  5. Ms Taco said she did not see any McDonald's signage or logo's anwhere at the new Central.

Only a sign Central Plaza, and some signage on the outside wall for Tops and Robinsons.

Where are the signs for Mickey D's ?

Don't think the quotes of facts about McDonalds was a true study and report.

Appears as if just an opinion of the source of the so called facts.

Anyone that has ever been to the States knows that McDonalsd does not have a 60%-70% share of fast food outlets there. Probably IMO more like 15%-20% maximum.

Bugger King, Subway, Wendy's, Taco Bell, KFC, Weinerschnitzel, Del Taco, White Castle, Pizza Hut, Domino's, local greasy spoons and roach coaches.

BTW America is not the only fat country. Look at the European's, many Latin countries, most western countries are over weight and that is because of lifestyle an lack of disipline in schools and Physical Education requiremtns that many of us ol folk grew up with.

  6. Wedding and Photography businesses are plentiful in Thailand, and they can do a job far cheaper than you can.

It would cost you several Million Baht in guarantees and depost to even venture into a business here as a foreigner. That is even if tehy approved your business and business plan to meet the Thai regulations for doing business as a foreign company.

Forget about doing business here or working. Too much hastle.

Just come here, enjoy your holiday time, and work until you can afford to have an annual income or money in the bank to support yourself. Otherwise, you will fall into the idea that you can just live here and work a little bit to support yourself. Bad idea.

  7. If you apply for a Retirement or Marriage type O Visa outside Thailand, your money does not need to be in a Thai Bank. it should be in your home country bank or proof or afidavit of Income Notorized by your Embassy, Counsular office, or a Notary in your country or show proof of income to the Thai Embassy or Consulate.

Trying to just skate by to live in Thailand is not desirable nor a good idea. Either you have the money or annual income or retirement pension to support yourself, or you don't.

Never use a Visa Service to try to do it for you. I know many people that went to jail and had to appear in court costing them hundreds of thousands of THB for having a supposed Fraudulant Visa Stamp in their passport in the early 2000's.

If a person does not have the money to properly support themself legally in Thailand, then best not to try to stay here indefinately on Tourist Visa's.

Not saying that all that want to be here and don't have income or money are bad, but we all know the stories of a few that makes it bad for the rest.

Get a proper Visa for your proposed stay here and no worries. If not, then go home, work, save money, then come back as a Tourist.

Or "learn" how getting a proper Visa is done legally and do the leg work yourself.

Beware of counterfit Visa Stamps. You won't know until you are in the Grey Bar Hotel with mother and father rapers sleeping on a cold floor without bedding.

  8. Well, that's a nice thing to say but it isn't exactly as it seems. Per my guidance to my wife, her shop always sends the bill to TacoBoy to make up for it.

But you know you're always welcome here. We're on the pinned Google map.

Sorry KD but with the recent strength of the baht lately, I treat PO's the same as Don's foods treats his.

    Like Tissue Paper

  9. I had a fancy of a Cigar and was directed to inquire at Porn's Liquor store next to the Old Dutch.

They do have some assortment of Cigars, smokes, various imported beers, some wines etc.

Seems to be a good place to look for hard to find liquor and smoke items.

Their stock seems to change so check periodically

Don't think they have Skool or Copenhagen Chew Tobacco or Snuff.

  10. Hope Bugger King and Subway will join the group of fast food outlets.

Any truth to Sizzler and Fuji restaurants coming to Central CR ?

More locals have been seen dining at these two restaurants than tourists.

Love the Salad Bar at Sizzler. Sorry to say that CR has no selection of Salads on offer. The best we can curently get is a half arsed single serving small plate assortment at the ???? Pizza Company.

I notice the locals seem to love the salad bars more than the expats.

  11. 9pm, toward the beach from the Dolphin Round About (lots of traffic and eyewitnesses that time of evening). Could there have been a prior or instant confrontation betwen the involved parties ? Thai boys and men are not known to take insults from anyone lightly.

If the gold ornament was the object, one should not wear expensive trinklinks out in public in Thailand. Especially while in a vulnorable position while riding a motorcycle or strolling back alley ways.

Should wear proper helmets to prevent head injuries. But the helmets provided by the motorbike rentals are not sufficiant.

Even Thai's get robbed just about everywhere in Thailand when they go down on motorbikes.

This could have been a case of robbery, or an instant confrontation gone bad and the non-injured persons snatch and grab.

Not a good idea to always rush to a conclusion based on the limited information provided in the news reporting.

A good idea to not provoke or get involved in road rage or confrontations with locals.

Not a good idea to wear expensive jewelery or advertise "I have Money".

Wear proper protective motorcyle helmets and gear. And remember anyone is vulnerable when down and defenseless.

Don't carry large amounts of money or valuables that one is not prepared to lose (just in case always wear clean undies)

  12. Have only recently heard of "Dexter". Next on my list of box sets to get.

"Sons Of Anarchy" is a great series. Just ended their 3rd season.

Fictional Motorcycle Club with lots of action and drama.

Katey Segal stars as the Mob Mom. She was Al's wife Peggy in married with children.

    Sons of Anarchy Trailer Video

"Southland" is another good newer series. About the LAPD

"1 Adam 12, See the Woman"

Southland Premier Video (now in it's 3rd season I think)

  13. Some nice Cured sliced Ham or a juicy Ham Hock could float my boat.

Along with Hard Pepperonie, Salami, and Jimmy Dean style breakfast sausages.

Where to get Corn Beef Briscott for St Patties Day ?

Missing Corned Beef and Cabbage Stew with a hint of Horseradish in the stew sauce :licklips:

Just Corned Beef Briscott, Onions, potatos, carrots, and cabbage simmered for a while in hot water............. Yum Yum. Just add Horsey Sauce, salt and pepper......... I am fainting now................ :P

Please tell us the Sausage Lady can make dreams come true :D

All you gotta do is get the Corned Beef briscott :jap:

  14. Kandahar, Try these. They are/were working where I am at work in another country. shhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh.. secret stuff

But they do change availability from time to time of choices. I noticed Conan TV had gone off line today. It went off before and came back a day or so later on the same or another incognito listing.

    http://www.soccertvlive.net/

Pretty dependable source here for lots of stuff KD may be interested in

  15. I don't know what shade of Red, Green, or Blue.

A Whiter shade of Pale maybe !

Don't know if things can happen for sure for anyone, but at least help to find a direction and not pessimistic answers.

Things can be made to happen, even quickly. Especially in Thailand.

Money always talks and BS walks. If a dream, it can come to be.

Answers to the Million Dollar Questions can be had by contacting the persons renting and promoting these and other properties. I only supplied a way to find these places.

I am not involved in their business, nor do I get anything. I simply answered a question.

Never professed to be a mind reader of another's stature in life, finances, desires, dreams, etc.

"Money talks, they could even rent my place if they want and I will book into the Dusit for 2 weeks."

A bit late on the offer mate. ;)

  16. Western Food is always more expensive than Thai food. But the Ms's said the western food stalls menu's were not too high priced.

I had not been in Chiang Mai or Rai for a while (busy making that dinero to pay for my Leo beers) but I hear things are a changing quickly there.

In regards to the "Old Dutch". I had heard it was expensive, but Ms Taco said not so.

A medium pizza was only 150 and an very large was 200.

She and her group of western food loving Thai girl friends last week had a large pepperoni pizza, pasta, small salad for only 375 pus water etc. So their prices apparently are less than I had been told.

They even tried the strawberry cheesecake 90 or 95 baht for half or 150 for whole (she said it was enough for 4) small servings.

They didn't much care for the crust, but said it was ok. Probably would have been better with grahm cracker crust, but where to find that in Thailand.

I am gonna have to try the Old Dutch my next time off. :licklips:

  17. The last one pictured is currently rented. I was there for a party yesterday. It should be available again sometime next month. But, you made your point.

It was not I that was contradicting and trying to make a point.

I made a reply that was contradicted more than once and replies that it is impossible to rent short term unless a person is rich even after I had posted a link to all the info.

I had to later supply pics and the info for Holiday Vacation Rentals in Chiang Rai to clarify once again that a "Dream Home" is possible in Chiang Rai. :D

One only had to open the links supplied and explore (easily) for Vacation holiday Rentals.

The alternative, is to contact and ask regular rental landloards about short term rents.

IMO, This post did not need to be drug thru the mud with speculation and inaccurate replies.

I like the look of the rented property. Looks like maybe in the Mae Chan Area with a view of Doi Thong (reclining lady) Mountain ?

Kandahar, Were you and the family able to enjoy the pond and or swimming? :D

  18. The amount of western food at the Night Bizzare apparently has increased. Chiang Rai is becoming Cosmopolitan.

Last night Ms. Taco and friends had gone to the Chiang Rai Night Bizzare after attending Makha Bucha festivities at Wat Jed Yhod.

She said she was walking in circles with her friends. :jap:

She said there is now a WCH Hamburger (Barry's Old Airport Golf Restaurtant) at the night Bizare Food Court Area with a limited menu to include hamburgers, fries, and sandwiches etc.

They told Ms Taco they were open from about 5pm until closing about 11-midnight.

Kae's Mexican food also has a food stall there. Open from around 6-6:30 to 8:30 or 9 pm.

Tsunami Chiang Rai also has a Japanese Food stall in the food court serving Sushi and Sushimi.

There is also another Japanese place selling Sushi and Sushimi in the same food court. Don't know what other Japanese food these two places offer, but I like their sushi and sushimi

Some nice Tempura items and lots of Thai Dishes. I particulary like the Hot Pot Soup that you cook yourself. Don't know the name, but delicious.

Thai Bugs are also available as appatizers or an after meal snack. :shock1:

Just across the street from the entrance of the Night Bizzare is ( ????? ) Pizza Company and Swenson's Ice Cream.

Up the road a hundred meters or so is the Old Dutch Restaurant. Nice varitey of menu. They also have thin crust Pizza, Pasta, and bakery Deserts. Various breads and meats are also on offer in their deli.

Some people also like the other restaurants that are located in or near the night bizzare.

  19. Le Meridian CR currently quotes (on their website) 3,531 to 4,119 for Standard Deluxe Garden View Rooms with Breakfast for 2 per nite.

Same price per nite quoted for 1 nite or two weeks.

So that is about 25,000 + per week.

That is a little less than a 3 or 4 Star Hotel Rates around the world of about $120 per night.

Altho a high price for Chiang Rai and most of Thailand, 5 Star resorts worldwide are a lot more expensive than this price.

  20. I had to use the "Braille Translator" to find this hidden gem of a Hilltop Country Mountain View Vacation Retreat "Log Cabin" with at least 2 bedrooms, Air Conditioning, and ADSL Internet.

There is another of these "Log Cabbins" with Mountain Views, 2 bedrooms and A/C in the master bedroom for less money without the Internet connection installed.

Prices and web are not quoted. But between 8,500 and 25,000 per week, with price reductions for longer stays.

Think the daily rate at some of Chiang Rai's finner resorts (Le Meridian, Dusit, etc) would be about the same weekly rate.

  21. Holiday, Vacation, and Short term Rentals are offered thru various sources and peoples. I am sure the OP is smart enough to be able to explore from the information provided for the dream holiday resort he/she is thinking of.

I do not advocate or endorse any person or property.

The info I gave was for a referance and starting point for the OP given the short notice of the request for Holiday Accomodations.

Good luck and have a happy holiday Mrkrabs
