  1. 6 months tax free - 3.00%

    12 months tax free - 3.25%

A lot of banks will offer higher rates but ask them if it is TAX-FREE of not. Big difference.

Apparently you can claim the tax back, depending on how much I suppose !

Might be more helpful to the OP if you divulge which bank it is offering these rates.

    Agreed. Name of bank please.

  2. Ok, after a bit of looking around I have located a stud/electrical current/metal detector. The one I saw is in Home Mall which is a little ways out of town, think Mae Jo and youre getting close. If you need better directions let me know

Its a Bosch bit of kit and they are normally pretty good. Model GMS120

A bit expensive at 3795 baht (Approx. US$116) but still quality is seldom cheap.

    Cheers for that Kiwi

  3. What date to fill in the spaces asking: "Entered Thailand" or " Arrived in Thailand" on immigration forms 7 and 8.

Do I fill in the latest arrival date, or the one after using the visa for 1st time ??

  4. I got mine from saraphi, no dramas at all, but my wife did most of the work, although i don't think it was a hassle in any way.

But what i've not really understood is when it can be useful. So far in over a year or two i can't recall using at all.

What are the advantages of having it?

Once having a yellow book, there is no more need to get residency letters. Just show a copy of the yellow book.

So it saves time and money too.

  5. I've got mine yesterday.

My condo is behind Big C extra on the super highway and my Amphur is the Amphur Muang which is located in the old city in the block behind (west) of the 3 kings monument and museum.

As I'm not working (retirement visa), I was given a list of 7 things to bring in.

    1. residency letter

    2. copy of passport

    3. translation of passport into thai

    4. 3 photographs

    5. chanote of property

    6. blue book

    7. 1 thai witness with passport and a copy

When submitting the documents, I also got interviewed about this n that and then was given an appointment for 8 days later to pick up the yellow book.

Upon receiving it I had to pay a 100 baht fee.

So obviously, there are differencies depending on the Amphur one goes to.

Hope this is of any help.

  6. I use the letter of guaranteed income. I take the papers in with me in a manila envelope. They just look at the signed affidavit from my conciliate and don't even bother to ask for any thing else. Mind you I do have the letters of proof but I feel the chance of being asked is less if I look prepared. My first extension I asked them if they wanted to see them and they said no. Since then I have them but I don't mention them.

I think appearance is a good looking thing. If I have the manila envelope it looks like I have every thing. I shower and shave and wear clean clothes. I do not dress up for it I just wear my every day clothes. Not sure I understand dressing up for it. They might get suspicious and think I am working.

Agreed. you certainly don't want to look unkept-

  7. TBH Beng, I've never been asked for either in all the time I've done renewal extensions.

Others might have a different experience

Can't really see the point anyway, we report our address every 90 days and if they accept that as truth why ask for more?

    Is this your first?

    Nor have I.

But a while back there was a thread where some one said they had to have one. So I took mine in with me the last time I extended and nothing was said about it.

Thanks. That's what I gonna do.

    Thanks for the reply uptheos

Yes, it is my first extension. I'm here since1989 but always was on a non imm B visa and doing border runs to Malaysia.

Now first time on a O visa and as i have this appointment at the immigration next week, I just try to have all the right documents with me.

You won't be changing your blue tabien bahn for a yellow one. The yellow tabien bahn is issued as an addition to the blue one, so if successful you will end up having one of each colour.

    Sophon

I don't have either the blue book or the yellow book for my condo.

Can someone please explain the reasons I may want to make the effort to get either or both books.

I do already understand that the yellow book serves to prove residence (for those instances when one would otherwise need to obtain a certificate of residence).

I think you answered your own question. Instead of fighting the crowds at the Immi every time you need a proof of residendence, you just have to do it once at the Amphur. smile.png

Can you provide a list of documents needed to get yellow book please ?? Where is the Amphur ??

  10. A truly professional and cheap place is just outside the moat, about 100 meters north of Chang Puak Gate. Where the food market is in the evening.

The shop features six cabins separated by curtains, fully airconditioned and you get the full treatment incl.welcome drink, hot towel and a massage to your neck and arms.

I normally have a simple clipper cut for now 100 baht (went up from 80).Still good value.
