  1. Eating cassava flour helped save the lives of four children found alive in the Amazon jungle more than a month after their plane crashed, according to a Colombian military special forces official. The children ate “three kilograms (six pounds) of farina,” a coarse cassava flour commonly used by indigenous tribes in the Amazon region, said spokesperson Pedro Arnulfo Sánchez Suárez. “Days after the crash, they ate the farina which they had carried there… but they (eventually) ran out of food and decided to look for a place where they could stay alive,” Suárez said. https://www.cnn.com/2023/06/11/world/colombia-missing-children-how-they-survived-intl-hnk/index.html

  3. History is usually taught from the perspective of the home country. It's ethnocentric in nature. I don't even recall much of anything being taught about World History in the Thai curriculum. In the English department where I worked, we did teach World History, but it was somewhat hard to make it relevant to Thailand. We also taught Thai & Asian history, which the students seemed to take a little more interest in and was easier for them but the majority of students simply were not interested in history. Western World History was a lot harder for them to understand. They had to learn a lot of geography first.

  13. Airlines have strict restrictions on how far along you can be in the pregnancy in order to fly. Immigration officers may also deny entry to a pregnant woman unless she shows proof of financial solvency. It is not illegal to enter the US for the specific purpose of giving birth. You will have to show proof of financial resources OR receipts for prepaid maternity plan. It should also be mentioned that many, many Canadians are intentionally born in the US.
