This is the place on Wualai Road- you can search it on FB, and I included the Google Maps link (note I'm no artist- my five-year-old draws better then me- but they've got loads of brushes, canvases, pens/pencils, etc):
คลังเครื่องเขียนกรุ๊ป Wua Lai Rd, Tambon Hai Ya, Amphoe Mueang Chiang Mai, Chang Wat Chiang Mai 50100

There's a good one on Wualai Road about 1km from the moat on the left hand side (not sure of the name, but it has a fancy yellow gate around the parking lot).
-
I know rainy season is starting- the internet went down for an hour last night for the first time in months.;)

My (nearly) five-year-old begged me to take her out, so we put on our bathing suits and drove around looking for a relatively 'safe' spot- I found a place with several other little ones where their parents (all Thai) had set up a small pool, and I asked if she could take part and join them for a bit- they were extremely friendly and welcoming (it was in front of a shop and I bought some drinks and food) and she had a great time for an hour.
I completely agree that it's difficult to find a good place for kids, though- I was watching her like a hawk the whole time as it was near the road and she's not in any way 'street-smart'.

In fact, it was on my list 5 years ago. i chose to relocate to cm instead because I could not stomach the crime issue in Detroit.
Detroit is a hell-hole- I thought I wasn't going to survive stopping for gas when I drove through a few years ago after visiting my alma mater in Ann Arbor and deciding to drive to Windsor...;)

Beggars and homeless problem in cm? Safety?
How's Detroit these days?
It's awesome- you can buy a huge house with the change dug out from under your sofa cushions. It might be a bit of a fixer-upper...;)

I have zero complaints about 3BB- in three years, I needed service once, and they were at my house within an hour and fixed the issue (it was actually a hardware problem on their end). Of course, opinions vary and others might have had a different experience, but I've been very happy with them.

On the subject of coffee, does anyone have a recommendation for a locally-available grind (not instant) that's really high in caffeine compared to the others? I don't like having more than one cup at a time, but I do like that cup to have some kick.;)

There's one on the left side of Tops in Airport Plaza (at least it was there last month). If you need protein powder or some gym supplements, you can try Sandy Health Shop in Star Avenue near Central Festival (there's also one near Nim City).

Shamu Shamu (they're in BKK and Phuket) has it in their catalog (though that doesn't necessarily mean it's in stock). I've ordered by mail from them before with no issues. Give them a call- the owner speaks English and is very helpful.

Yup, the sticker is still required.

Yeah- I've been using Lazada more and more lately- they do a great job, and even the one return I had to make (shoes were the wrong size) was very easy.

If you get there a couple minutes before 6am, they'll generally make you sit at the gate until the opening time (fair enough, of course).

I've got what's probably one of the nicer cues in CM- I've gotta pull it out of its case (which I haven't done in way too long) and try one of the local tables one of these days. Sadly, though, a pretty cue doesn't do much to improve ones game.;)

I like a hardcore gym with lots of free weights and no bells-and-whistles (the new gym holds no appeal for me), and I don't need any external motivation to get myself in there- some people need the distraction of bright lights and pretty colors to lure them into the gym- whatever it takes to get you off the sofa is worth it, imho.

If you can't find one in a local shop, there are dozens on Lazada starting under 100bt.

Pity the poor PEA guy repairing a supposedly dead line when that genset sends power down the line
My set-up was completely independent of the PEA line as much as if I were running stuff on batteries- it wasn't even connected to the house's circuit board. It was simple (though a bit messy with running the various extension cords), and worked great. It would run about eight hours on a full tank, which would cover major outages and scheduled maintenance when the power was cut for the day.

Curious?... How did you connect the generator to your house electric system? - Include photos if possible;-)
I no longer have the generator (I left it in the house when I moved), but I had an 'electrician' (basically a handyman;)) hook it up to an A/C outlet and circuit breaker (couple hundred in parts from HomePro) and then just ran an extension cord from the storage room to the house, and plugged stuff in. It worked great (WAY better than I expected)- I would keep adding things (nothing major, like an air conditioner, but some bigger stuff like the water pump) waiting for it to be overloaded, but it was never an issue. As I mentioned, it was noisy, but it was money well-spent.

Many choices on Lazada from ~350bt for a cheap board and more expensive for wood and other materials..
-
It's mostly cheap Chinese knock-off toys ( to that there's anything wrong with that).
I agree it's an excellent shop with good prices- I bought a faucet there the other day, and it was 10% less expensive than HomePro for the same item. Nothing high-end, but it would be tough to walk out without buying a few things.

There's nothing wrong with getting the exact dog you're looking for- I had two 'soi dogs' along with a pricey golden retriever.
Try The Kennel Association of Thailand (likely not much English spoken)- if a potential breeder shows you pics and pedigrees of dogs imported from the US or Canada, ask to see the import paperwork and contact the original breeders to check provenance- due diligence on your part is the key.

The useful Mr. DIY Shop that just opened next door to them would likely have helped their business a bit as it brings people practically to A-J's entrance who might otherwise not have known it even existed.

Does anyone know if the lot for the cargo terminal is OK for overnight parking? It's a bit of a walk, but there are usually spaces there even in the afternoon.

That's close- the map makes it look like it's on the main road, but it's actually a couple hundred meters down the small soi.
Leather jacket

You can try Chang Moto- https://www.facebook.com/changmoto
Helmet2Home usually has a small selection of leather jackets- https://www.facebook.com/Helmet2home/?rf=1497587383790250
Panda Rider is in BKK, but they ship all over LOS- they're an authorized Rev'It dealer and have some really good prices- I believe they're affiliated with Chang Moto and you might be able to order through them- http://www.pandarider.com/Revit/index.htm
