As there have been hardly any international arrivals on Samui, that for the time being is most likely.
There were international arrivals with the opening in the beginning of the year with direct International flights, when quarantine were lowed to one week for vaccinated people, however a fairly short periode until quarantine again was changed to two weeks for all.
The major point in my post however is that international arrivals are tested several times and movements registered, whilst domestic arrivals have been able to pass through without any testing or quarantine, and thereby some cases of virus imported from mainly Bangkok spreading on the islands...????

Real numbers are difficult to find. Rumours are everywhere.
Real numbers from Ministry of Public Health are here, as per end of July (image from the pinned thread about vaccination on the islands)...
With the estimate of 120.000 people on Samui - i.e. (in rounded numbers) 60,000 registered inhabitants; 30,000 registered Thai workers, migrants workers and foreigners; and approx 30,000 unregistered people including workers and tourists - the fully vaccinated with 2 jabs (Sinovac) are about 45 percent, and vaccinated with at least one jab (29,000 1-jabs probably all AZ) are around 69 percent...????

Taking the Covid-situation, and timely care for others, into consideration, it seems like very bad timing for a demonstration.

We often see pictures in the news from East Asia with these deep cleans, very visual, but do they have any real significance in protection of spreading Covid-virus..?

That slogan was my favorite.
Sort of catchy.
Or was it "Pattaya Move On"?

Every attempt to revive the travel industry flies in the face of science and reason until there has been a mass immunization campaign and the institution of a digital track and trace system. Anything else is a foolish waste of time.
I've mentioned numerous times before, and it seems to be true:
The risk is not from arriving, fully vaccinated foreigners with numerous negative tests; the risk is from domestic arrivals without vaccination, or Sinovac vaccination, and often no tests asked for, or checked, but let in as long as they have an app on their smartphones.
Looking at all the recent cases with spread of virus on the islands during several months, they all originates from domestic arrivals.
Great if they finally begin to check domestic arrivals, preferably with kind of quarantine, especially if they are let out to mingle with the islands' residents...????

Does anybody know where to do a PCR test on Samui without risking to be admitted to a hospital in case of a positive result without my explicit consent ? I mean, where they just tell you the result and then it's up to you what you make of it ? The background is, that I need a PCR test for flying, but do not want to risk ending up in a 14 day quarantine paying a six-digit hospital fee which might not be covered by my health insurance.
Samui Home Clinic in Bangrak would be a possibility. You can ask Dr. Bew in advance what happens, if the test is positive. They have a Facobook page, where you for example can ask "for a friend" by Messenger...????

Source for Black Bamboo-cluster
According to Samui New Update (31st July) the cluster originates from three persons, both Thai and foreigners, who arrived on PG-165 at July 20th, but did not show any symptoms of Covid-19 at that time. They traveled on the island and visited entertainment venues, which caused spread of virus, infecting both Thais and foreigners.
Among Samui+ tourists there have been two cases of infection (one of them is dead), however the tourists did not leave their hotel, so virus has not spread to outside.Original news-post in Thai language...

I believe you don't understand what I talk about. It's generally about trust in reported number of Covid-positives vs. serious Covid-condition. It's not a comment to present daily situation in Bangkok, where so far all that tests positive are hospitalized, mainly in field hospitals and like, whilst other countries mainly use home-isolation when people are not sick.
Today's stats (31st July 2021)...
Thailand...
total cases per 1 million: 8,534
deaths per 1 million: 69
active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 2,864
vs. for example
UK...
total cases per 1 million: 85,407
deaths per 1 million: 304
active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 17,622
USA...
total cases per 1 million: 107,143
deaths per 1 million: 1,889
active cases adjusted to per 1 million: 16.233

Spot on but who believes Thailand's numbers and the bungling crew incharge ur havin a laugh
If the number of real Covic-sick were way higher then the official numbers, hospitals would long ago have been overloaded with serious ill patients, which however not seems to be the case. I've been visiting three hospitals during the pandemic, one of them monthly, they have so far not been busy at all. But there could well be asymptomatic cases that are not found, due to no sickness and low number of tests...????

If comparing today's Covid-statistics between Norway and Thailand, I wouldn't dare the risk to go there, but rather stay in "safe" Thailand...

vs.
Thailand...

One has to think of all the vaccines diverted to the populations of these remote islands instead of being given to high-risk people in the virus epicentre of Bangkok.
Mismanagement on a massive scale and with loss of human life as the ultimate consequence.
In real numbers it would not have saved Bangkok, and those recorded as fully vaccinated are with two jabs of Sinovac...

So far still "considerations", nothing firm yet. It's depending of what happens during the next few days with the so-called "Black Bamboo cluster" on Samui, apparently caused by domestic travelling from Bangkok.

To Dagbladet, he says the infection situation in the country is difficult and he calls it a bit insane that thousands of Scandinavians should fly up and down to get vaccinated.
More "insane" that he just don't stay home and follow sensible rules, and wait for a while, instead of travelling about 9,000 kilometers to Norway, where half of the population still waits for their turn in the vaccine roll-out; but perhaps he might presume that being foreign resident in LOS makes him a VVIP...????

Anyone else tired of the nonsense, and contemplating leaving Thailand?

Portugal is worth checking out, especially the Algarve area where I have happy friends living; and I've also been there, it's actually both good and relative affordable...????
I'm however not in the mood for leaving, Thailand is still as great as ever, even during the Covid-situation, because everywhere in the World it has at least temporary changed due of that. If you look at Europe, there have been numerous demonstrations against Covid restrictions; and still Thailand has statistically so far performed better than most European countries, even with the third wave included.
The baht have been strong during the military government, and some of the time thereafter in the semi-democratic, too strong baht for many of us expats, and presumable also for a number of tourists and for the export. The national dept vs. GNP lowered after the military steppen in from about 48% to around 42%, which could explain the stronger baht, and in general showed that the country is in good financial shape. However, the lately new loans, among others to cope with the pandemic, have increased the dept vs GNP back to a level before the military stepped in, and might be little more up about 50%, but borrowing money to cope with the pandemic have been the situation for any responsible government. Looking at statistics at debt vs GNP, Thailand is still doing (a lot) better than many Western countries, UK is for example over 80%, Europe in average around 70% - don't need to mention Greece and Italy - USA is over 100%. We expats might happily look forward to a period with a little bit more baht to spend, when exchanging our home-country's money.
Thailand might be different depending of where you stay, but I'm still happy, almost as ever, where I chose to settle, and I have so far no intentions of moving - but I admit that life was little beter before Covid changed the World, but when comparing to my Scandinavian home country, it's been better here...????
