Which beach could be better for that?   Bo Phut?   Maenam?   Lamai?

Bang Rak, Bo Phut, Choeng Mon or Maenam in my opinion, Lamai or Chaweng if you want to be statist in a dystopian movie set.

Bang Rak don't have much beach but a nice view and some action with open restaurants.

Bo Phut have a better beach and next to the cozy Fisherman Village where Coco Tams by the beachfront might be open.

Choeng Mon is an excellent quiet beach.

Maenam is a 5 kilometer long bay, some few resort and a number of restaurants are open.

That Tesco stuff must be getting pretty old now and well past the sell by date.

Some of it was just about that last date, last year, when I bought some of the stuff for next-to-nothing on sale - I'm normally polite and leave one item on the shelf for someone else to buy - the only things that seems to last without a "best before date" are unfortunately the wine in "Tesco Finest", which I would love to get hand on for half price or less...????

There is a mention at the bottom of this that says it doesn't apply to Samui or Ko Phangan...but apparently the police were out last night enforcing the no alcohol policy...to be clarified...

In other social media it's asked if anybody has knowledge about Samui and this confusing info, i.e. especially the alcohol selling part  i.e. "No Alcohol sales in shops and restaurants".

It's valid from 5th August, i.e. yesterday, and yesterday I saw that they opened for alcohol sales in Makro at 5 pm, and I bought some in Tesco after 5 pm.

Edit/additions: Comments in other media says that police last night (5th August) have been telling restaurants not to sell alcohol in Fisherman Village, and in Lamai, and some places on Koh Phangan. One poster says that alcohol is allowed to be sold in shops, but not in restaurants.

Opinion: Not good for Samui+ if tourists cannot have dinner and enjoy a glass of wine or two, or beer.

This was what I quoted from start:

I do not see any kind of group represented. Just a way to drag all Thais into one negative box. Things that seasoned posters in this forum have perfected up to a professional level.

"Group" is a generalization, not specific to the case reported in the news, group is the kind of conflict seeking Thai males easily loosing face for whatever reason...????

I am unable to understand where I even as much as inferred 5 million Baht is "rich". But to clarify what I would consider those with "significant" offshore  wealth would be more in the range of $5 million and upwards.

Nominal deposit rates in Thailand were generally under 1% before the pandemic.

I am not denying the pandemic and resulting ramifications is having an impact of concern but with regard to the long planned implementation of this reduction in Bank Deposit protection it is less relevant than is being made out to be.

If money are moving out of Thailand, it's not because of a bank guarantee is lowered from 5 million baht to one million baht, and that's my point, as 5 million baht is pocket money for rich people...????

It's all relative.   Surely you want to preserve your nest egg/reserves/etc. whatever its size.   So even if you only have 500 Euros or dollars in some checking account somewhere,.... you have an 'offshore stash.'   ????

Luckily €500 are still within the one million baht guarantee; and even "rich" is relative - I fully agree, 20,000 baht can be a relative fortune - the normal expression of rich is way above 5 million baht, you might be considered a bit "loaded" at that level, and some Thai chicks might consider you as rich enough for a shorter period of time...????

My experience is that I over more than 10 years in Thailand many times confirmed that the news control how people see the world. We all know that if you read things  too many times you start to believe it stands for the majority. In reality the bad things you read about does not even represent 1 %.

If it now is like you say, that you seen a lot. Yeah, it´s probably same there. First it seems like you happen to be where it happens, and then you chose to remember the bad things you see, and forget that you see more good things. It´s a common reaction, but you have to remember that you should see the light instead of darkness.

I have almost 20-years experience (20-years next month), and we are talking about the conflict seeking group of Thai men, in general don't challenge them in any way...????

We probably all meet lots of polite smiling Thais...????

Total numbers since first infection make no sense at all when looking at the present situation.

That's why the active cases are also shown for each quoted country for comparison - the total shows how well a country so far have been in handling the pandemic, which is quite relevant, especially when looking at "active cases" - by comparing numbers, the present situation in Thailand is not as bad as in some other well-known countries. The major difference might be that both asymptomatic cases, and mild cases, have been hospitalized in Thailand instead of home quarantine, making the news talking about that hospital capacity is running out. It seems to be mainly the Delta-variant everywhere now, so quite similar risk...????

    Anyone else having a problem?

I've just traded on Lazada a few days ago - I often use both Lazada and Shopee - never had any problems, but I use the bank option, where I get a code and transfer the money from my Thai online banking platform. My girlfriend also buys a lot, she use the bank's smartphone app to pay...????

Kasikorn Wongnakhon from Sisaket, aged 24, had entered the SCB Chotana Road branch in Muang district, Chiang Mai and handed a deposit slip to the teller.

It had a phone number and a chilling message scribbled near the bottom:

This translated as: This is a robbery. I have a gun. Be quiet. Hand over the money.

    Kasikorn fled with 20,000 baht.

20,000 baht - SCB's stocks are traded low on SET, I realize now that they might have no money - perhaps khun Kasikorn should have chosen a Kasikornbank instead...????

Would my thinking be so wrong  to consider that given the Thai Baht has fallen quickly and is likely to continue to decline that for those very wealthy who probably have significant offshore holdings would be inclined to now buy back into Baht to utilize property purchases at a time of a depressed local market combined with the advantage of the exchange rates?

For the vast numbers who possess nothing but debt the insurance providers to Banks will dictate more stringent criteria for further loans to minimize risk.

The Government protection level has been progressively reduced over many years and although this latest final decrease has been deferred more than once it is unlikely to impact on the majority even now.

The guarantee is lowered from 5 million baht to one millin, is 5 million baht that what you consider as "rich"..?????

The for many of us farangs - and presumable also the tourist industry, if there were any tourists - little weaker baht is rather caused by the national dept has increased from 42 percent of GNP to just over 50 percent of GNP due to Covid-loans, and that the interest rate was lowered from 1.5 percent to 0.5 percent, and in general the financial situation due to lockdowns; i.e. the Thai stock market is also declining at the moment. Last time we had nice "cheap" bahts was under the former more democratic elected government, where the national dept was about 48 percent of GNP...????

It says so right in the name "total cases per million". That is just the total amount of infections ever recorded divided by the population to get 'total cases per 1 million'. Same goes for 'deaths per 1 million: 439' The total COVID-19 deaths ever recorded divided by the population (2552/5.814458).

The point other commenters are trying to make is that these numbers are not a reflection on the situation right now. It mere shows how well or badly countries have done over a period of roughly 14-17 months. It could be a total sh#t show in a specific country right now but if they did well initially the numbers would still look favourable compared to others.

Active cases and daily infections would probably the best indicators to compare countries by right now.

Active cases is what is shown in the last line under each sited country for comparison...????

Thailand was the first country outside China to record a Covid-19 case in January 2020, so the total numbers makes great sense, since the Covid-virus might have been longest time in Thailand apart from China. Total numbers is how it's compared if you check the official sources, the numbers originates from WorldOmeter, where all daily updates are recorded...????

    Looks beautiful romantic place, thanks.

    Which restaurant is that one?

Santibury on Maenam Beach, it's closed at the moment, but have been reopened a couple of times during the Pandemic, so perhaps, but only divine beings know what the future might bring...????

Edit: They seems to have unique different settings for every couple, I often snap a photo when I pass a dinner set being made ready on the beach.
