Samui 2022 - Whats happening !
khunPer replied to khunPer's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
Update -- More and more action in Chaweng's soi Green Mango-nightlife... Henry Africa has returned and reopened the bar... And it had to come with free cannabis - i.e. kratom in Thai language - this place is called Copper Pipe... Seems like the former reggae- and rock music pub Chica Loca in soi Sound has begun growing herbs instead... And good old Sweet Soul Café has got a new business plan, if you eat enough cannabis brownies sold by the entrance, you might be able to fly into space in Space Fly Club... All the usual places are busy as usual, and The Green Mango Club even can manage a full house early when there is a concert like here with Pongsit "Pu" Kamphee... -

They were not unlucky, they broke the law and they knew in advance that being involved any kind of narcotics in Thailand and South East Asia could result in huge problems.

In a way it makes sense to aim for "quality tourists" - i.e. high spenders - as less people makes less impact on the environment. Several popular tourist destination begins to charge an entry fee or tax, to reducere the number of visitors, and still gain financially. On the other hand - if such a change is successfully made - smaller local vendors, including restaurants and like, might suffer, as high end visitors might spend more private time inside their walled 5-star resorts and on guided tours. Some areas might however already be on that move. I live on Koh Samui - which a number of posters in this forum think is too expensive (don't need rants about that here) - and while the cheaper older hotels and resorts seems to suffer from lack of visitors already before the Covid-lockdown, the better end accommodation seems to do pretty well, even being fully booked in periods, including relative high priced pool villas, which has become popular for their level of privacy. But is Thailand ready for such a move in tourism? If you ask me, it's not really ready yet, lot of infrastructure needs improvements. On the other hand, the target don't seem to be Western tourists - which might find other alternatives, if Thailand change from the amazing stuff to become like som many other European or Western destinations - Asians seems to be the target, and there are many more of those than Westerners, and they are even higher spenders per day compared to Westerners, and the are furthermore be used to Asian infrastructure standards. Furthermore, high fuel prices might stay with us for a while together with general higher costs, so airline tickets become more expensive; some airline have already mentioned price increases. For a relative short distance - like from India, and many other Asian places, to Thailand - the price increases are not so important, while for the 5,000+ miles distance from Europe, US and "down under" the extra cost might just be enough to look for closer alternatives...????

Several people killed in Copenhagen mall shooting, police say
khunPer replied to Scott's topic in World News
The latest Danish news update says, that the three killed is a 47 year old Russian man living in Denmark, and two Danish teens, a boy and a girl, aged 17. There are four seriously wounded, but now only one in critical condition. Two Swedes, a 50 year old man and a 16 year old girl; and two Danes, a 40 year old woman and a 19 year old girl. The total number of injured people is 30; 20 of the due to injures caused during the escape from the shopping mall. According to the police press conference this morning (Danish time), the arrested ethnic Danish suspect has confirmed that he was inside the "Fields" shopping mall and done the shootings. He is known by the authorities for being psychological unstable, and he had posted on social media about death and killings shortly before the incident. The police presumes than the man acted alone. The weapon used was legal, but the man had no permission to own such a weapon. A witness told a Danish Newspaper... "He looks like someone who has enough time. Walks around quietly. And fires his weapon at random people in Field's [the shopping mall]. Unaffected by the chaos he creates." This is what 36-year-old Sarah from Vanløse tells about the young, blonde man with whom she suddenly came face to face in the shopping center on Amager on Sunday afternoon. And who has since been arrested for shooting several people. Police have confirmed that several have been killed. "He's not stressed. He walks, as if he is on a pleasant family trip. As one who has free choice. The center is packed with people", she says a few hours after the violent experience. Source Danish newspaper Ekstra Bladet, linke for full story in Danish (you can use browser translation) HERE. There is a link to a Danish news story with video the suspected had shared on Youtube, HERE. Edit/addition: One of the shot victims, the 16-year-old Swedish girl, currently in a Danish hospital, tells how she saw the perpetrator and that she is now at Rigshospitalet [Copenhagen] and waiting to have the bullet removed from her body... ‘When I came down the escalator, just before a corner, I felt heat and heard a bang. Then I realized I had been hit. I turned my head and then I saw the perpetrator for a few seconds. " Source link in Swedish language HERE, and in Danish language HERE. -

Three dead and three in serious condition, some more wounded, but numbers not given. We - i.e. the Police, at the moment - don't know details, so please don't judge in advance. The arrested ethnic Dane will appear in court Monday, probably some level of statement follows for the authorities. -
That's the Thai-way-of-thinking for many Thai ladies, I've several times heard them say: "If a man cannot provide, why should I keep him?" And they did kick him out... I believe you can get a replacement title deed, but it might however be cheaper just to send her the extra 10,000 baht a month until you get back to Thailand, take possession of the title deed in your name and sort out the future between the two of you.

Probably not. I was travelling alone with my daughter when she was 11 years old and 13 years old, we was never asked for the letter, but I had it second time; first time her mom could follow us to immigration, which the officer might have noticed. My daughter has same surname as me, which might be a benefit, the immigration officer asked her a few questions in Thai language, probably to indirectly check if she was all right with travelling together with me. I'm heading to Europe next month alone with my daughter, and will bring the same old letter, just in case. I however cannot give you a definite answer, if it's still needed.

Yes, as they probably haven't entered Thailand on the UK passport. You can get "same day-service" at many Thai passport offices, if not all, the office I use charge 1,000 baht for a 5-year passport for a child, and 3,000 baht for same day-service. If the mail the new passport with EMS it normally takes ta couple of days to arrive, EMS mail-service costs 40 baht. However, both mom and dad need to be present, when a minor needs a passport, if one parent - or other person - don't have sole custody. To my knowledge you cannot give a power of attorney, but check with the passport office, you are going to use, if they will accept that - they didn't do it in my case when my daughter should have her first passport, so mom and daughter had a trip in vain, and the three of us needed to to do a new trip together. A Thai minor leaving Thailand without the mother might often need a written permission from the mother. That's a letter issued at the local amphor-office. It looks like this (the letter used to give me permission to take my daughter on a trip out of Thailand)...

Pattaya mayor affirms vendor-free Na Jomtien Beach will not affect tourism
khunPer replied to webfact's topic in Pattaya News
Many tourists enjoys the opportunity to buy drinks and food on the beach - both during daytime and at evenings - and also rent a sun chair and umbrella. The solution is to find the right balance between vendors and available beach-sand, so it's still a beach, but with some of the benefits that many tourists prefer...⛱️ It's very clear on the quite long tourist beach where I live, where there are only a small number of places with service. Some people brings their own mat, drinks and food, but most guest flocks at the places with service, where a buying something to drink may include a sun chair, if it not just can be rented, and food is easily available...???? -
Yes, many - if not most - elder people with underlying illness. There has been a few cases on Samui with death connected to Covid-19 positive. Except one all were elder people with underlying illness, diabetes in every case. We don't know if it was Covid-19 that caused the death or they just happened to be Covid-19 positive when dying. Same seems to be the cases many places, same discussion in my Danish home country and neighboring Nordic states. Don't forget that WHO is political and might have a benefit from declaring pandemic. And WHO and various government might also be criticized if they had not declared pandemic.
