To be honest, I think you need to higher the salary, if you wish someone with a DL - minimum wage with Sunday off is close to 10k a month now - domestic work is considered low status job. As others have mentioned, get your wife to ask around, might have better luck that way, or find a migrant worker, for example from Lao; your wife should be able to apply for a 2-years work permit for a migrant maid.

I'm supposed to be a Viking - my genetic profile says I am - Iceland is warmer than Scandinavia and from old time, there is a reason why Greenland was named green land - try northern Scandinavia instead...???? -
Thai child with single parent leaving
khunPer replied to ndreamer's topic in Visas and migration to other countries
To my knowledge, both parents needs to give permission - actually be present - to obtain a Thai passport; it's the same procedure for my home country where I need to bring the mother when renewing passport for my daughter; and her mother needs to bring me, to get a Thai passport for our daughter. Depending of age, you might be asked questions when a minor is leaving. You will need an authorization from the mother, an official letter issued at the amphor office, same department as issue ID-cards. It looks like this... If the child only has a Thai passport and leave by air, it might be a problem, if there is not a proper visa for the destination country, if a visa is normally required for Thai nationals. -

How to become a Samuian (Girl version)
khunPer replied to slabejmarek's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
When I came to Samui in 2001 - yes, I know it's late for an old hippie to arrive here, but unfortunate that's the facts - expats talked a lot about old time, which was 10-15 before, and that Samui had changed so much...???? Now I meet people that arrived here later than I, talking about "old time", which was 10-15 years before, and that Samui has changed so much, which it has; especially since I came here first time... I recently visited my home country - for a few days only - it had changed so much and too much for me, it was better in good old time, so I happily returned to Samui that had changed less... -
I'm an old hippie and retired early..., and moved to Thailand, so I didn't waste my life by staying in my home country and later being dependent of the old age system there. I've been partying here - i.e. Land-of-Smiles - for 17 years now and never regretted my decision for a moment...????

You have no rights after three years. You cannot have legal written agreement on consecutively 3-year rental agreements. Any rental/lease agreement running more than three years and up to 30 years shall be registered at a Land Office and a smaller tax need to be paid for the whole registered period, the registration will be written on the land title deed as a servitude. In my opinion, if a long term rent/lease is not registered as servitude: Don't. You can find the rental/lease Law in English translation HERE...????

Suspect Held In Extortion Of Cryptocurrencies From Russian Couple

I'm not wrong, I'm referring to the costs mentioned in the article... A quick glance at the prices of solar rooftop system installation in Thailand started from: 83,500-85,000 Baht for a 1.5 kW system which would be enough to power 5 LED lightbulbs, a refrigerator, a television and an air conditioner Your 3-4 units a day for 1 kW fits nicely with my calculation of efficiency...????

Remember to change your passport number everywhere it's used for identification, especially bank accounts, remember all bankbooks and both passports - Bangkok Bank might also need to change your bankbooks, as they are paired with your old passport number - furthermore your Driver's License might have your passport number, if you don't have a Thai ID-number, so it's advisable to get that changed also (costs about 200 baht). Furthermore loyalty cards might be linked to passport number - for exeampel Central's "The 1"-card, so if you need to get loyalty discount some shops might ask for your ID, i.e. your passport, and if that don't fit the card, no discount; so best do it all in one go...????

As @DrJack54 says; however, you might not need an agent, if you are just little efficient into paperwork. If money is not an issue and you can afford it, deposit the 800k baht in a fixed deposit - i.e. 12 month fixed - for best interest, and never mix you extension-of-stay-deposit with other bank transactions. Keeping the fixed amount all year round makes you sleep well without thinking about about balance, topping up at correct time and maturing period. Withdraw interest annually the day after it's added to the account, so you keep a clean 800k balance, it's easy for the immigration officer to check. Use another Thai savings account for foreign transfers and daily transactions for expenses etc., so it's not mixed with your extension of stay deposit. I've been using this method for about 15 years now and it's easy, also the paperwork at the probably most strict immigration office in the Kingdom. You annually need a statement from the bank when applying for another year's extension of stay, I include both my fixed deposit account and my saving account for daily transactions, so my total is over 800k baht, and I show that I have foreign or other income for my living expenses. For re-entering, you can apply for a multiple re-enter permission at the same time as applying for annual extension of stay. It will cost you 3,800 baht and with that stamp in your passport you can exit and re-enter whenever you want within that year, without need for any other paperwork...????

Calculated on a circa 85,000 baht 1,5 kW system, it seems to be about 8 years payback period - without interest and maintenance - if all electricity is used at a 5 baht rate and the system is in total 50 percent effective of it's rated capacity during all year round daylight time; or around 12 years if generated electricity is sold for 2.60 baht per unit (kWh)...????

There might well be more to this incident than revealed in the news story... From the article: The duo operate a real estate business on the island and arrived last in Thailand earlier this year. [...] The men demanded that the couple pay them $3 million in cryptocurrency or the equivalent of ฿112.5 million but Mr Evgenii suggested that he did not have that amount of funds to hand. [...] Mr Abdullin told Ko Samui police that he agreed to pay over the money as he felt intimidated by the men and feared for his safety as well as that of his wife and family.

Taxi from airport to Lamai Beach
khunPer replied to jim hayes's topic in Koh Samui, Koh Phangan, Koh Tao
There is an official transfer counter in the arrival area just after you get your luggage. There might be metered taxis - don't expect them to drive on meter, expect instead 600 baht to 1.000 baht to Lamai Beach - waiting just outside the airport gate at arrival area. -
Thai eVisa website for OA visa, or other options
khunPer replied to ibjoe's topic in Thai Visas, Residency, and Work Permits
As @DrJack54 says, enter visa exempt and change to a non-immigrant O-visa when in Thailand, if you wish to stay for "extended / indefinite duration". I will recommend - if you can afford it - to deposit 800.000 baht in a fixed long-term (i.e. 12-month) Thai bank account, making both change of entry to non-O visa and later extensions of stay very easy. I've been using this method for 15 years now... -

A Westerner can have a will certified by a notary at the local amphor district office and it can be kept on record there, or you can bring it home. A last will can be legal even it's not signed in front of a notar - but preferably signed in front of two witnesses - and is also legal if not kept on record by the district office. You can write the will in your own language, but it needs to be translated to Thai if it's going to be handled by a Thai court that will also appoint an executor, if not stated in the will. The court handling a last will will be a court in the country where the deceased lived when dying and thereby follow the rules of that country, if not another country has specific rules, which is mainly in real estate cases. Children under the age of 20 will inherit under guardianship. It's best to specify exactly in the will how the assets are going to be divided and any restrictions. There are very good information about last will in Thailand in the book "Thai Law for Foreigners", page 78 to page 81...

5k baht to 10k baht would probably be fine contribution that can help a lot, but as @Crossy says, check with your partner. A ceremony and cremation can easily cost 30k baht, but a number of envelopes with some level of financial support should also be expected...????
