  1. Too much longer travel time - at least two hours more, even with a bridge - I would rather pay little more for excellent service, and I know many that says the same. And what do you think the taxi-dare will be from somewhere on Samui to Surat Thani Airport?
  2. The Thaiger writes that... All 18 passengers jumped out of the vessel and into the sea and were saved by the rescue team. A 30 year old man suffered burns to about 50% of his face and is being treated in Chumpon Hospital. A 20 year old woman had a wound on her chin, and other passengers had mild injuries like bruises and burns. Source link "18 passengers rescued after ferry explodes off South Thailand coast" HERE. 3. There has been an engine explosion and fire on "Lomlakh 18" en route from Chumphon to Koh Tao this afternoon (Wednesday 20th July) at around 2.30 pm about 3 kilometers off the coast of Chumphon. It's mentioned as a Lomprayah ferry but is more likely a speedboat from Lomlakh-Khirin. The boat was carrying 18 passengers and 2 crew members, all were rescued, but some passengers were slightly injured from burns. Thai PBS-news video on their Facebook feed HERE.

  5. Thai rules seems to be different. No big deal, the local government hospitals issue the yellow wax passport after you have been vaxed. It normally takes a day or two before you are recorded in the system and the yellow wax will be issued in a few days, some places charge 50 baht to issue or update a yellow wax passport...????
  6. From the article... Those that can afford a 40 million baht investment to own 1 rai of land to build a house will likely not compete with those that can afford only to but cheap land. Another questions is how many that wish to invest 40 million baht in Thailand to obtain a long term visa, the 40 million baht investment visa is already available with the option of 1 rai of land ownership, the difference is 3 years binding period in the new proposal compared to 5 years bonding period in the existing terms.
  7. They are, same old plan as for many years...????
  8. Bangkok Airways probably won't care, cutting an hour or two from a long transportation time around 15 hours means nothing compared to 65 minutes flying time, people will still fly from Bangkok, which is the by most major route.
  9. The Lease Law says... You can read the full law text in English translation HERE. Your contract may however have special clauses like 50/50...????
  10. However, this is not UK but amazing Thailand...
  11. Keep on doing this excellent work of protection...???? (Please read the comment with a bit of irony...????)
  12. Euro is weak compared to the dollar, so baht is not weakening at all...????
  13. I have for many years been wondering where they file all these papers...???? When I apply for something as simple as an annual retirement extension - and I've been doing that since 2007 - I have to supply: Application for extension of stay with a passport size-photo (I'm also photographed, when I receive my extension) Copies of all pages in my passport Copies of all pages in my bankbook with deposit for my extension of stay Original bank statement and confirmation letter from my bank that I have enough funds Copy of my house book (if I didn't have that, then rental agreement and owners ID card) Print of Google Map showing where I live with address and coordinates printed in a white square box next to the place Hand drawn map of where I live, so someone can find me Medical certificate from a hospital Signed statement that I will follow the rules for extension of stay in the Kingdom The older my passport and bankbook becomes, the more copies; and all need to be signed and as portrait format - so the officer can flip through as pages in a book - if copied landscape I would have been send out to make new copies...
  14. If you have sufficient funds and a ticket out of Thailand - as the regulations say - then you won't need to pay a VIP-fee to enter, simple as that...
  15. Quote from the article... Ferry companies did not immediately release a public statement to explain the delays, but traffic remained heavy to Samui over the weekend. Yes the did, last Wednesday... Due to keeping the old ferry-fares by decree, Seatran Ferry need to reduce fuel-cost by changing schedules to fewer departures from July 14th, suspend membership cards and discounts, and suspend advanced ticket sales, including fares for all vehicles...
  16. It's normal, it happens all over, even in the least corrupt country of the World where it's called "bones", which the politicians can gnaw, i.e. make extra income, sometimes even with an very low meeting attendance like 30 percent, because they are busy in another chair...
  17. Not to my knowledge, but I know a luxury hotel charging non-hotel-guest 1,500 for using one of their sunbeds on the beach, I dare not to think of the fee for both sunbed and pool...
  18. You are absolutely right...????????
  19. Samui is an island and prices are higher on islands due to transportation costs, i.e. ferry, it's general Thai knowledge that living costs are little higher on islands than mainland, so not much help to OP talking about northern Thailand...????
  20. It was Lent day yesterday, no alcohol sales before midnight, so the places that have major business before midnight - like Henry Africa's Bar - remained closed. There are still not enough foreigners for full opening of The Green Mango Club except when there are concerts, but be happy that the front part is crowded instead of a huge more than half-empty boring club. Space Fly Club is brand new and with an so far unknown business plan, i.e. music stage. Perhaps their business is based on eating enough cannabis brownies sold by the entrance, so you can fly high enough up into space to enter Space Fly Club...???? However, I saw a larger group of young brownie-loving foreigners entering Space Fly Club last night, but later it was almost as empty as I'm used to see it; empty as in "empty" and "used to" means the last few weeks...????
  21. The sand moves swiftly at coasts of the Samui and Phangan islands when it storms, so together with high waves and low tide it's probably difficult.
  22. Easy, all closed for 48 hours, midnight to midnight, so all of July 13th and 14th. Some, if not many, may reopen at 00:01 on July 15th...????
  23. Billionaires stay in 5-star resorts, they don't stay in small hotels...
