What happens with money in the bank when the farang dies?
TigerandDog replied to Equatorial's topic in Marriage and Divorce
Make a Thai will, then there can be no issues with who gets the money in the bank account. -
Report Thailand Tightens Rules for Foreign Drivers: Tests Now Mandatory
TigerandDog replied to snoop1130's topic in Thailand News
In a roundabout way it does apply to renewals because to currently renew your license you must watch the video online and then pass the written test. So all they're doing is extending those conditions to holders of IDP's and temporary license applicants. -
where the stores do scam people is when they package 2, 3 or 4 items together and stick a price tag on it for the package but when you check the price of the same item individually, it's actually cheaper to buy the individual items rather than the packaged ones.

I'll go you one better. Have the RTP appear at a high school at going home time for the kids and be at every exit from the school. Every kid riding a motorbike without a helmet or license is issued with a fine, the bike gets impounded and is not released from impound until a license and/or helmet is produced and the impound fee is paid. The impound fee needs to be a minimum of 5k baht. Start with the young ones as it will be the parents that have to bear the financial penalty, and the kids will soon learn they must follow the rules. Word will get out after this happens at a couple of randomly selected schools and police check points. It's the ONLY way they will learn.

we used 600mmx200mmx75mm. You need ensure that the special premixed mortar for AAC blocks is used. This way there is no sand required to be purchased and not as much mortar needs to be applied. The same goes for render, special premixed. Once the render had dried and was ready for painting we had a plastic skin applied to the render, then the undercoat and then the top coat. With painting we used Dulux paint, BUT if you use that paint you MUST insist on NO watering down of the paint, as Thais love to add stacks of water so the paint goes on easier, but that then reduces the life span of the paint. As a result of using the AAC bricks, which we purchased from Global Warehouse, we don't need to run air con on the lower level, just fans, and in the top floor bedrooms only need air con on for 1 hour before hitting the sack. Noise reduction is pretty good to and the one big thing we've been happy about is no rising damp, especially as the ground water level is only 1 metre below the surface here, and no need for double bricking on the western side of the house.

the bricks themselves are costly. However, when you look at the overall costs, viz. render, labour & time costs to build, mortar costs etc. they are overall cheaper. we used AAC bricks to build our house. Saved quite a lot of money and time in the long run by using them.

Is Your Doctor Being Influenced by Big Pharma?
TigerandDog replied to Red Phoenix's topic in Off the beaten track
Firstly that's none of your business. Secondly I've been living here for 11 years, and if you read my opening words I stated "based on my experience". That is NOT a generalisation. I will add that my wife experiences EXACTLY the same thing when she needs to go to the dr. -

Is Your Doctor Being Influenced by Big Pharma?
TigerandDog replied to Red Phoenix's topic in Off the beaten track
My experience with drs in Thailand is that they are incapable of diagnosing the cause of a medical issue, so they just treat the visible symptoms by loading you up with 3 or 4 packets of antibiotics, pain killers and other drugs. All of which they get paid a back hander for from big pharma. -
Finance Foreign Nationals Face Account Bans in Bangkok Bank Crackdown
TigerandDog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
ttb (formerly TMB) Bank REFUSE to open accounts for Americans. No link to this, it's THEIR policy because THEY don't want to do all the paperwork involved in the mandatory reporting the IRS demands for Americans outside the USA. -
Finance Foreign Nationals Face Account Bans in Bangkok Bank Crackdown
TigerandDog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
where in the article does it say "farangs"? It doesn't, it says "foreigners", and it doesn't make any accusations about "farangs" opening mule accounts. You actually blew your opening sentence out of the water when you correctly referenced those that do open mule accounts. Great job contradicting yourself in your post. -
Finance Foreign Nationals Face Account Bans in Bangkok Bank Crackdown
TigerandDog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
It's not a restriction. It's reverting to the rules/requirements that have been in place for the 12 years that I've been in Thailand. BKK bank took it upon themselves to relax/expand on those restrictions and now it's coming back to bite them and everyone impacted in the bum. My bank has never wavered from and still strictly adheres to the rules/restrictions, with one exception, that are referred to in the article. That exception being they will not open accounts for Americans because of the mandatory reporting back to the IRS. -
Report Beware of Tourist Scams: Bangkok Named Top Hotspot for Fraud
TigerandDog replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
that's right, BUT who owns & runs the airport rail link, it's BTS. Don't even try to argue with me on that point because my brother-in-law works on the airport rail link and he is employed & paid by BTS. -
Report Beware of Tourist Scams: Bangkok Named Top Hotspot for Fraud

The airport link is run by BTS, the last time I flew into Don Meung the Red Line wasn't open, so if it's open now that's even better. -

TigerandDog replied to snoop1130's topic in Bangkok News
Firstly Swampy doesn't have MRT it has BTS, and yeah that's being finicky I know. Secondly Don Meung has buses to Mo Chit where you can then get on the MRT, so there is no need to have to rely on taxis. -
If somebody wants to identify as a different gender to the one they are born with, I don't have a problem with that. We see lots of that on a daily basis in Thailand. However, IMHO transgender males should NOT be allowed to participate in female sports. In my neck of the woods in Northern Thailand there are 2 options for transgender males who wish to play sport. #1. They compete with the men #2. There are transgender volleyball tournaments and they are very popular with the transgender guys and supported by the local communities. If a transgender guy tried to participate in a female sport, even though there are no local rules to prevent that from happening, the locals would not allow that to happen.

Report Thai Schools Struggle with New Literacy-Based Curriculum Shake-Up
TigerandDog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
Not a bad idea, and long overdue. However, like all things Thai when it comes to planning & implementing, who is going to teach the teachers first, because most teachers would fail this new literacy based curriculum. -
The downhill trajectory of Chiang Mai immigration

never used to have to do that. Just this year it's been an issue. -

Can't agree with that as I would check 3 times daily and the first time each day was between midnight and 12.15 a.m. -
The downhill trajectory of Chiang Mai immigration
TigerandDog replied to NorthernRyland's topic in Chiang Mai
for the most part I agree with everything you say with 2 exceptions. #1. You could always park at Central Airport with no parking fee and walk to the Imm Office, #2. Since appointments have been available I've always made one, but this year, as usual, I started monitoring the appointments web site from the middle of December on a daily basis. Without exception the ONLY dates that would come up as having appointment times available were public holidays. So this year I was unable to make an appointment. I just checked the appointment web site again, and between today and the end of July not a single date available. So either CM do not want us making appointments any more OR the web site is down, and despite being advised that it's not working they aren't interested in getting it working again. -
Economy Vietnam Tourism Threat Looms: Could It Overtake Thailand?
TigerandDog replied to webfact's topic in Thailand News
speaking of TDAC, just had a mate return from the USA on Sunday. He had to produce his TDAC re-entry when checking in for the flight back. No TDAC and you're not issued with a boarding pass and thus not allowed to board the flight.
