  1. Bob is another one. Just haven't been able to make up my mind which one is more deluded.
  2. you may not be able to block on your phone BUT install a call blocker app that also blocks SMS messages and just add the number to the blocked list. The app will then automatically do what it's designed to. Around 6 months ago I was constantly receiving phone calls & SMS messages with Malaysia's country code. Never answered or opened any of them. Just added to the blocked list in the app and haven't received any calls or SMS messages since. However, if you at some point delete those numbers from the blocked list in the app that will actually unblock them.
  3. AQI of 174 this morning in Tambon Mae Kha, Fang District, and that's after some rain last night.
  4. This extreme heat was being forecast almost 1 year ago when meteorologists started explaining the impact the change from La Nina to El Nino would have on temperatures. What will the consequences be of the 2024 El Niño? From the start of the year through to mid-2024, Thailand will face elevated temperatures and an increased likelihood of heatwaves, these being the typical outcomes of El Niño conditions. These periodic changes to the weather are driven by abnormally high sea surface temperatures in the equatorial Pacific that then cause a redirection of the current. This begins to flow towards the east of the Pacific (i.e., to South America), while trade winds weaken bringing hotter, drier weather to the western pacific (i.e., to Southeast Asia). The most recent forecast by the Thai Meteorological Department6/ indicates that this year, peak temperatures are likely to be 1.0-1.5oC above normal, which would push these above their level in the summer of 2023 and well into the zone designated as ‘extremely hot’7/. The highest temperatures will be in the north and northeast of the country, where they will reach 43.0-44.5oC, followed by the central and eastern regions (42.0-44.0oC), while in the BMR and the south, temperatures should hit a maximum of 40.0-41.0oC. Likewise, minimum temperatures are expected to be 1oC above normal nationwide. Such high temperatures are likely to pose a danger to the environment, triggering an increase in forest fires, and exacerbating particulate pollution and health problems connected to the heat. The consequences of extreme heat will also extend to include widespread coral bleaching, problems with growth and reproduction for aquatic life, and a decline in agricultural yields. This may then trigger food shortages, leading ultimately to increases in the price of agricultural products and other consumer goods.
  5. seeing as you already mix your own, have you considered making a change from the 2/3 Arabica medium to 1/3 Arabica medium & 1/3 Arabica dark together with your 1/3 Robusta (preferably dark roast). An awesome flavour as a result of this blend.
  6. I grind my own beans and do NOT buy off the shelf from a supermarket as you don't know how long the beans have been sitting there, even more so if imported beans. I use Thai roasted beans (Doi Chang grown) which I buy from my local coffee shop as I know the beans he has have a high turnover rate which means they will be reasonably fresh for grinding. I blend my beans as follows 1/3 Arabica medium roast, 1/3 Arabica dark roast and 1/3 Robusta dark roast.
  7. She should sue the ride-hailing company & the driver for the extra air fares.
  8. why do you need a US phone #? Give whoever in the US your Thai phone # and you will still receive their text messages.
  9. That's why I use prepaid. 50 baht per month to top up, don't make a lot of actual telephone calls. Use predominantly wi-fi for internet connection & voip calls (LINE & MS Messenger). No phone bills to worry about.
  10. I guess it depends on why you need one. I have one and use it regularly instead of having to produce either my passport or driver's license as ID. I also only pay Thai prices at National Parks etc or get free entry for being over the age of 60 once they see the card. I also only have to pay Thai rates for golf upon production of my pink ID card. On one occasion I had to visit the hospital and they were about to hit me with the foreigner prices but when I produced the pink ID card I only got charged the same rate as Thais. So those that say it is useless can continue to undervalue the card, but I find it to be quite beneficial.
  11. Not entirely correct. It's impossible to drive a cart onto the taxi ways beside the golf course as there are water filled canals (see pic #1), too deep and too steep for a golf cart to drive through, bordering both sides of the golf course. There is one section where the taxi way dissects the course (see pic #2, with traffic light) so planes can move from one runway to the other, but anyone that is silly enough to walk or drive a cart on there while a plane is taxiing deserves to suffer the consequences.
  12. You're the joke. If you had googled Kantarat Golf Course you would find that yes, it is between the 2 runways BUT even the worst possible shanked golf shot will not reach the runway. Anybody who has not played golf on this course has no right to comment as they will be talking out of their backsides. I've played Kantarat many times and have never seen anybody hit a golf shot that even remotely have an impact on airport safety. The RTAF should be telling AOT to go take a running jump, the golf course stays put.
  13. unfortunately that's the mandatory process that must be followed. First a fine of $1000.00 per breach together with a strong warning that future breaches will land him behind bars. If he breaches teh gag order again, which he will eventually do because he can't keep his big mouth shut, he will probably get put in the court house cell for a max of 3 days. Subsequent breaches will also result in being put behind bars up to a max of 30 days per breach. This is the process the lawyers who un Meidas Touch are saying the judge must follow.
  14. all this when 2 weeks ago Srettha publicly stated there was no plans for a cabinet reshuffle.
  15. see the private message I sent you.
  16. why do you think getting a n Australian pension overseas is also insane? As long as you meet the requirements for portability you can easily have your aussie govt pension paid directly to your overseas bank account. Admittedly one of the supplements drops off and the other supplement is the base rate only AND the actual pension rate is paid at full value. I've been receiving my aussie aged pension directly to my Thai bank account for the past 10 years and also receive the pension increases every March & September. So I realy don't understand why you think it's insane.
  17. As others have stated it is doable. However, don't forget that once you've been in Thailand for 180 days or more in a calendar year you become a Thai tax resident and will need to submit Thai tax returns and pay tax on any funds you bring into Thailand after Jan 1 2024 that are not savings, and that is dependent on whether your home country has a Dual Tax Agreement with Thailand. So you really need to take that into consideration as well.
  18. When the stamps were transferred to my new passport I enquired as to whether I would need to bring my old passport when doing my next extension. Was told not necessary. Just did my 1st extension using my new passport 2 weeks ago, and had my old passport with me just in case. No request for my old passport was made. So must be another one of those ridiculous things that different Imm offices/officers decide.
  19. spidermike has been anti Big Joke, with absolutely no evidence to support his negative BJ posts, for as long as I can remember. The sad thing is that spidermike's posts are usually full of common sense and supported by evidence. Can't say the same for any of his posts about BJ. Thus far they have all been irrational guilty until proven innocent comments.
  20. purely merit to the rank he held.
  21. 2 of my wife's school friends are mid ranking police and the son of one of my Thai friends is also police. I've asked them questions as to their opinions of Big Joke and they say that they don't believe he's corrupt. One of my wife's friends resigned from the RTP last month (took early retirement) because he was fed up with all the corruption his colleagues were involved in, and he was not prepared to pay 2 million baht for promotion to the next rank. They also said that BJ knows where all the skeletons in the closet are and that all this current notoriety is just another attempt to get rid of him so he doesn't become #1 in the RTP. They also made a very interesting comment along the lines of if he did leave the RTP and move into politics he would be in a better/stronger position to bring down the rampant corruption within the RTP.
  22. Sorry DrJack but your answer re arrival by air is incorrect. There is a limit of 6 times per year when arriving by air. "Those who arrive at the airport without a prior visa will continue to receive a 30-day stamp up to 6 times per calendar year." Before you start saying the link is NOT the Thai Embassy, I'm aware of that, but it's been posted to support my post correcting your comment re "no stated limit via air". 23. no puzzler. It was the reporting that was 2 days later, NOT the intervention. I had to re-read it a couple of times before I realised what the nonce of a reporter was actually trying to say.
  24. nope. If you don't want to get sprayed stay indoors.
