  1. My friend had a (presumed) heart attack and despite CPR by passers by was not responding.

The sad thing is that two of Pattaya's best known hospitals refused to attend to give energency aid because my friend was not in a position to pay being either dead or unconscious. I'd always assumed that even the Thais would respond in a humanitarian way and worry about money later. How wrong I was.

You should have a look at this topic - http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/index.php?showtopic=73826

  2. off topic just a tad but a friend of mine used to put a ping pong ball in the toilet bowl when they were having parties so that the blokes had something to aim for. kept the bathroom floor and the seat dry most of the time.

You mean cigarette butts weren't put there for that reason?? :o

  3. When people don't wear crash helmets, don't learn how to drive properly, drive when drunk, etc., of course highway fatalities are so common (compared to Western, highly regulated countries) that it's almost routine to briefly grieve the death or dismemberment of someone you love, and then wait for the next crash, as if it's inevitable.

When the culture or religion have a fatalism built into the structure, or a belief in a happier life after death, then it's easier to accept.

Same for health care, sanitation, even oppressive governments.

Developed countries can afford to make life dear. On the other hand, many developed countries teach their children to kill anybody who is a threat to their personal life. Then, the concept of community amounts to little more than a perverted nationalism and an insane individualism.

    In my opinionated opinion. :o

Where on earth did you get that from? I must've been away from school when they taught that, and I certainly never heard it from anyone else!

    Or did you mean "under-developed"?

  4. i have a Colloidal Silver generator a friend left here for sale for 2000 baht. It's new and is the best one on the market I understand.

It cost him 4000 baht plus import tax and shipping.

Let me know if you are interested [email protected]

located in samui but can ship it anywhere in Thailand for 100 baht

Goldenbead - please check this first (i.e. before parting with your money): http://www.quackwatch.org/01QuackeryRelate...s/silverad.html

  5. I read once, that it might be a problem to replace amalgam with gold, if you don't work carefully (your dentist has an hangover), because a little bit amalgam remains and get in contact with gold what cause a batterie.

That's OK - you may even be able to listen to Radio Bangkok from your teeth. :o

  6. The Office of the Attorney-General (OAG) yesterday ordered Independent Television (iTV) to immediately resume operating as a news-oriented channel and to pay a billion baht a year in concession fees to the government by July 3.

However, the station shrugged off the order saying it still awaits a ruling by the Supreme Administrative Court.

On May 9, the Administrative Court overruled a decision by a panel of arbitrators in 2004 allowing iTV to air more entertainment programmes and to pay the government only 230 million baht a year in concession fees, instead of one billion baht.

The court ruled that the arbitrators' role should be limited to helping settle the dispute, and therefore should not have changed the terms of the contract. It told iTV to repay several billion baht in concession fees to the government and to increase the news programme portion to 70:50 as required under the original contract.

    I agree 120% with that. :o

  7. As I sat on the floor, every time one of the workmen passed me, they stooped out of respect. The fact that I was sitting on the floor (as were they), meant that this stoop was very exagerated, almost embarassing for me!

I encounter this stooping everyday, whether it be with family members or with complete strangers. With the exception of a few important Thais, they all stoop as they pass me.

Is this something that other Westerners encounter? Should I feel honoured that they don't consider me 'farang kee nok'? Or is this stooping an automatic reaction when Thais meet any foreigner?

    Simon

Stooping as a sign of respect to you? :D

You are kidding yourself, all they were probably doing was 'airing' their opinion of you by farting to best effect... :o

    //flame removed//

Did anyone see the 60 year celebrations? There were Thais on their knees walking backwards and touching their heads heads to the floor showing total respect and deference to their elders and betters. Very touching.

  8. So many predictions... so many wrong! This is what the World Cup is all about - Ghana played brilliantly, so much energy and determination. Feel sorry for the Czechs, but they should've given Ghana more respect. Well done Ghana!! :o

  9. They are probably aware of the dual-pricing issue currently doing the rounds and are afraid they will be pestered by local seagulls (unless they can get away with looking like a Taiwanese, Chinese, Malaysian or Singaporian bird).

Alternatively, maybe they cannot find a nominee Thai seagull to assist them in the purchase of land for nest building?

Apologies for having a brain smaller than a seagull...I will get my coat

    :o:D :D

  10. This is new.

A week ago, June 8th to be exact I received, this time only one TOT bill, the one that informs me I owe nothing. :D

True to Thai efficiency, the statement was mailed on the 12th of May and the amount displayed (nothing) due on the 27th (of May).

I am not about to drive 70 km (round trip) to ask these morons what and if anything is due. With their constant ADSL outings and 2,5 kb/s speed, they should actually pay me for putting up with such nonsense. :o

    may pen ray.

How would you say it in Thai: "Get real people, this is the 21st century". :D

Hi Aviador - I think what might have happened is that you paid twice one month, or somehow got out of sync with your bills. Hence you get the bill that says you owe nothing. Now you appear to have gotten back in sync.

And also, I think the reason for your late bills is the postman. I used to get my post only when there was enough to make it worth his while to deliver it. One of the penalties for living "in the sticks" I'm afraid.

  11. When we talk about it!

Google Earth HAVE updated their photos!

Not over Phuket, but other parts of Thailand (and Laos)

But it seems like they have "deletet" Phi Phi islands!?

    Or I'm blind?? :D

    /sunem

No, you are right! If you turn on "Borders" you can get the outline of Ko Phi Phi Don, but the detail has gone. I know the tsunami hit Phi Phi pretty hard, but that's no reason for Google to delete what detail they had from the database. :o

  12. PM blames police for failing to prevent bomb attacks

BANGKOK: -- Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra today blamed police for failing to prevent a wave of bomb attacks in the deep South

Excellent leadership, Shinawatra - blame it all on someone else. Keep it up, we may get rid of you yet.

  13. Surprise, surprise, when my 'phone was active I checked the balance and it also had about 100 baht credit remaining.

    Isn't life wonderful!

    Cheers,

Been there, done that. Good innit!

As Astral says, you normally have to get the police to complete a form which you present to the Dtac shop and they give you another SIM.

  14. Been watching the late games in Patong for the last few nights/mornings with no problems no signs of the BIB

They were bought off then. Please supply the name of this establishment so I can inform the authorities and get this bribery and corruption halted immediately.

  15. The Sun newspaper on-line is doing live streaming audio on all the games at this link:

    http://www.thesun.co.uk/article/0,,2-2006260665,00.html

Just follow the link and you'll get there. No good for todays England game because it was delayed viewing, but should be OK for all games that are shown at the correct time.

It's crap! Apart from the commentary being useless, there's a 30 second delay - so anything that happens on-screen is commentated on 30 seconds later. Pathetic!

  16. QUOTE(Neeranam @ 2006-05-31 16:36:58) *

I can't wait to see England fail miserably.

I'll be cheering a much better team - Spain.

dry.gif Did you inadvertently forget to add a smiley or are you really that sad?

Of course I'm only joking. :o But being a Scot, it's a nightmare every Thai supporting England.

Scots do love to see England let's say, not win.

Yes, he's very sad. But he's a Scot.

We English, on the other hand, tend to support Scotland especially in the World Cup because we hope to meet them later in the competition. And of course we remember great goals such as Archie Gemmel's goal against Holland in 1978, and great defeats such as 0-1 against Costa Rica in 1990.

  17. There ain't nowhere on the net that is streaming English. I've been looking for weeks.

My last hope was the BBC broadband, because I couldn't see how they could block it. But they have - I tried to connect and got a message that it has been blocked because I'm outside the UK.

I'm mega pissed off as I planned to go down the road and watch the S. African telecast, but the wife's pissed off on the piss and I'm left looking after her son. (she was supposed to be home at 8.p.m!!)

    Pissed off ain't f..cking word. :o:D

No man should be treated like that! Get rid of her!

I'm watching with "khrap, na khrap". <deleted> crap.
