  1. I had one of these when I was a kid:

    677fb811.jpg

"Hey Dad, where's Delhi?" ask I.

    "Here son." <points>

"Hey Dad, where's Timbuktu?" ask I.

    "Here son." <points>

"Hey Dad, where's Bangkok?" ask I.

"Who told you you about that place?" <smacks head>

  2. :D I'm not laughing, it is at least two hours out of my busy day(!) but I refuse now to pay the BIB a satang for something that is wrong. I will not get on my high horse about it but it is wrong :o

Why fight it. If you paid 4,000 baht a year in "fines" that would be an expense of less than 10 USD a month. Petty cash and much simpler than the potential problems of not paying.

There is something so inherently wrong with this attitude of condoning and supporting graft and bribery - so very wrong.

    Right!!

Its better if you just pay it, you will probaly be better off

    Wrong!!

  3. Just an "I'm curious" poll, of the posters who think this is a shameful act on the govt's part. What have you done to help poor people? Do you give them money? Do you buy them food? Do you drop a coin in the cup? How many of you have no homeless people in your own country? What have you done there to help them? Seems to me, if they are relocated for a day or so, they will get a few good meals, and it would be like a mini vacation.

Is this another "Do you give to beggars?" topic? Last week at one of my regular street markets there were 4 brand new crippled/disfigured/non-walking beggars. Never seen any of them before and this particular market is one that I go to at least once per week.

So who brings them there? Why did they all turn up at the same time? Did I give them any money? Bloody right I didn't.

"Rotor Ron" :o What yarns are you spinning now? :D

  5. In the meanwhile , I keep renting here really cheap, bring in the minimum amount of money for my needs, keep my money invested abroad.

Me happy , they happy. all good!

That's the way to go unless you're lucky, like Madsere:

We have been married for close to 15 years now, she own the house, our daughter will inherit, her family leave us alone, basically no problems :o
  6. ... I am sure not all Thai people are cowards ...

    Kuhn Alexander[

Alexander, please try to not let this eat you up inside. Accidents happen, and some people run away when they are to blame. You'll probably never see him again and it won't make your life here any happier here searching every face in the crowd trying to find him. If he is Buddhist, then "Waen Gam".

Try to forget him and move on. Best wishes for your wife's recovery.

  7. My idea of retirement is not knowing what day or time it is and not caring. Getting up when I feel like it and not HAVING to do anything I don't want to do. I do very little and I do it well. :o

Same here. I know today is Monday - WAS Monday - because there was an F1 Grand Prix yesterday. The only other clue I get is which street market is open.

  8. Can someone translate into English please? I'm trying to access www.airlinerlist.com...

I got there without any problems. Try again, maybe they've unblocked it. :D

... a Pat Pong pole dancer blush ...

    I've never seen that. :o

  9. I bet if you looked asian you wouldnt be paying local price, unless the people at the gate are just morons

I think you've hit the nail on the head here. The rules and regulations were probably formulated along the lines of citizenship and nationality, i.e. regarding whether the person has contributed taxes or whatever to help towards the upkeep of the park, but the guy on gate just looks to see if you are Thai or not. He can't be bothered to ask Thai-looking Asians (who are not Thai) what nationality they are, so they get in cheap.

Try getting a tan, die your hair black, lose some weight - and height- you might get in for 20 baht.

  10. Before we get the "Hounds and Flaming Torches" to go after the carriers, look carefully at the handset you are using.

Old Handsets and handsets with OEM equipment (O2, Blueberry etc) seem to be the most prone to trouble. The next handset problem is the new ones.....

...So please be careful before we go after the phone companies on this one. I know as a fact the links are very closely monitored, and their utilization is not as high as claimed in the media.

    :o

  11. CONGRATULATIONS MONTENEGRO ! After ninety years this brave country will regain its independance after a national referendum.. Taken over by the Austrian army, King Nikola was not permitted to return after the end of the First World War and his country became incorporated into Yugoslavia.

Well, unless we have been indoctrinated, we know of another state nearer home, taken over by an invading army after a carve up with the British Empire.

Let us pray they may also be permitted a referendum to decide their own future even though its been nearer 97 years since they had their own government.

[sorry...due to political censorship unable to name that state]

I wonder when the civil war will start and how long it will last.

  12. These coils are wonderful things. Just one tiny problem. Getting the two apart. Usually they end up in pieces over the other side of the room. Anyone else have a problem with these. :o

There are just some things that separate us "old Thai hands" from the others. Separating the coils is but one of them. Other actions are washing your bum Thai style without walking out of the hong naam with a wet spot on your behind and walking into a home and leaving your flip flops in front of the door without missing a stride.

Well, don't keep it all to yourself - tell us HOW! We all want to know! (Not the flip-flops thing, the other one).

  13. ColPyat

From another thread, I quote you:"Wrong. I came to Asia when i was 20. No degrees, no marketable skills. I am still here, on a workpermit, selfemployed, and rapidly approach middleage. "

As we are all aware, Asia is an immense area, where in Asia?

Now enlighten us....... what streets exactly have you walked aside from Bangkok to come to your grandiose conclusion as to how dangerous this city is in comparison to the rest of the world!

Do you really know what danger really is? Do you really know what uncontrolled violence is really like?

PLease enlighten us with YOUR experiences................. somewhere aside from Thailand that is!

Oooh! Diablo Bob - obviously an accurate nick - knows more about "danger" and "uncontrolled violence" than you do, ColPyat! What have you got to say about THAT, then! :o
