  1. I am trying to recall where but I also saw a 747 in parts just off the #7 motorway from Pattaya to Bangkok. Seems it was a mile or two from Sukhumvit on the North side in an open field....... Just a thought that it could be the one waiting to be rebuilt for the Terminal 21 and the one in Jomtien a whole separate project.......... I did see the one talked about about 6-8 months after making a special effort to look for it...... But many times since I have driven past and not thought to look for it and I haven't noticed it for a long time...... It is not very eye-catching......

On another note...... United Airlines in the USA are retiring all their 'aging' fleet of 747's and on their site they are offering to sell parts from them to collectors at rediculous prices......

The word envelope springs to mind.

A reply like this is a waste, if you can't take the time to be more explicit and helpful then why waste your time and ours (maybe just trying to run-up your POST count)............ there are so many posts already about paying-off and then you post a 'one-liner'...... With no helpful info...... Why???????

This OP has interest in learning a bit from others on TV.... Do you really think you offered him some help???????????

What happen if you are dual citizen of two countries that both have draft military service?

YES............ A good question......... and I don't know..........

Best way to know is to talk to 'military offices' in each country............

I feel that in reality each country would have rules concerning that situation and I

doubt that any country would 'not exempt' service to another country.......

That will do nicely sir!

    Where do I pay?

Yes...... I can be done........We did it............

Not half and half.... FULL Thai ancestry...............

My Thai wife's son immigrated to the USA when he was 12........ He was in school till 18 then working in the US....... He had no intent of going to Thailand (other than visits) so my wife had her sister (still in Thailand) talk to some people in the umphur and arranged to have him declared as if he went to draw the color selection and got the color so he didn't have to go to military'.......... Thailand changes but one thing remains the same...  "money Talks".......... I don't know if you are in a city or the country (Issan) but a good start is to talk with the 'Headman' of the village...... The headman can probably learn 'where and how to do' for you (Maybe a 'Johnnie Black' for him).......

On the other hand, and mind you that YOU are the adult, If the son has a good knowledge of 'English language' he will get many promotions because of it (not being stuck in a 'trench') and land 'office jobs' and come out of the military with qualifications for the best jobs in Thailand.......... In my case the son had no intent to leave the US and no interest in living in Thailand......

By the way..... He Married a 'Thai girl' who had immigrated to (and had citizenship in) New Zealand in her youth and moved to NZ for a few years where he immigrated to NZ and now has 3 Passports and 3 citizenships, however he was born Thai and that is his ethnic origin..... So he is 'Thai'....... Not half'n'half unless you are talking about citizenship...........

    To be very frank...

No one needs 30 or even 3 years experience.

Farangs stink as much as the blacks the browns the yellow or what ever the rainbow colors - it is just their superior attitude... they are the fruits of the same tree.

Did you somehow think this post was about 'Body odor'???????

And somehow you think you can learn as much in 3 years as you can learn in 30 years?????????

And you consider yourself 'very frank'?????? .......A very self-drawn conclusion... LOL......

People can have 'pride'........ but you prefer to call it 'superior attitude'.... I have more pride than to go out in public without a shirt........... Thanks........... a bit different than 'superior attitude'....... LOL......

And I draw a clear opinion that you don't know apples from oranges when you think we come from the same tree............

Everyone has something to say here on ThaiVisa.com....... This is in regard to what you had to say.......

On these forums many times i have read about guys not getting "respect" from Thais ,well i have never been disrespected ,overcharged ,asked for a bribe (well once by a cop in BKK) and my wife and i always seem to be treated with curtesy .

but then we both dress quite nicely and speak politely .

i reckon if you walk into Tesco in a pair of shorts with your belly hanging out and with a very young girl in a pair of shorts showing her bum cheeks ,its not only Thailand where you will be laughed at or be spoken about in derogatory  terms .

Yes..... after 30+ years in and out of Thailand I draw a close comparison the these farangs you mention to the 'typical Thai driver' who is taught by the 'typical' Thai driving schools to nevermind looking in your rear-view mirrors - never mind those folks behind just watch the road in front (and never mind what is coming up behind)(or how you are affecting those behind you).... These farangs mentioned above show very comparable 'selfish concerns' and no consideration for others............

I'd like to know where this form is. A few years ago I left with about $40,000 usd. I had heard the bit about declaring excessive amounts of cash and so I was alert for anyone asking me if I had anything to declare. Then before I knew it I was being scanned at security while the shoulder bag with the cash was on its way through the x-ray machine.

A moment later I was on the other side, putting my belt and shoes back on, and nervously grabbed my bag as it came out of the x-ray scanner. That was it.

Was I supposed to grab a random screening agent and say "hey, I just wanted to let you know I've got forty grand in cash on me"?

You are just one 'Lucky' man....................... The whole amount of any excessive money can be seized and confiscated when not declared..........

    You were Lucky......... that time................

  10. I just did it last week......... Simple.............

If you like my experience just call me <removed> or PM.............

You have a good list of requirements, dependent upon your US embassy letter of income, I had $5800 per month and forgot to go to Kasikorn for Bankbook Balance letter, and no Problem..........

In my view if you do do qualify for extension....... Most important..... Take Money..... first step TM7 1800 baht......... Second step-0---- Re-entry TM8----- (multiple in my case) 3,800 baht......... Money and photo most important........... I was unsure and sloppy with filling in forms (my first renewal also) and no problem...... Just money and photos (i needed 2 ---- one for TM7 and one for TM8) But go with too much better than not enough........... Shop on the left just outside front door on left side recommended for copies and help.....

Proof of where you stay is important also (in your 'copies')............

Very simple, the girls at the front desk will check you in and look at your papers, anything missing they will tell you and you go outside to the shop to the left and they will help you to fulfill your requirements......

    Good luck................ Mine so easy..............

  11. I am through customs every second month usually coming from the US. I carry 3 full-size suitcases, a roll-aboard, and a stuffed computer hand carry bag (I have many Thai friends who want to send things to their families, and I carry a lot of donated 'old clothes').......

I been checked about 3 or 4 times since Swampy opened. Normally I will stand at my baggage carousel blending in with the others and watch the green lane for a couple minutes.........

Sometimes the customs people are active and other times they are just sitting and watching........ If I see they have a lot of carts headed toward the door then I will try to go out together with many people. I usually try to avoid eye-contact with the officers and have my passport open, in my hand, as if I am looking it over, watching out the side of my eyes..........

Me, appearing as a foreigner, fairly nicely dressed, I rarely get singled out even though I don't have much to worry about........

My experience is that foreigners with 'typical' bags aren't bothered near as much as people with cardboard boxes..... so keep that in mind........

If you can pack your 'old rug' (as in small value) in a duffel bag or similar travel bag it will be best (inconspicuous)(not eye grabbing)........

Lastly, do yourself a favor and not talk about 'Antique Value'......... tell them that it is just an old rug 'that your mother loved' and left to you and now you want to bring it to Thailand........ Not much real value but big sentimental value..........

Sawadeeken, there is no train connection and has never been to songkhla, ja99, as phuketjock wrote, crossing the border is and has never been possible at night. OP, you may have had a bad feeling or impression, but that doesn't mean that it's generally bad. I have crossed this border many times and am living now between Hat Yei and Pattanti, the only problem are ordinary criminals and traffic as everywhere in Thailand.

Then maybe it was Hatyai...... LOL..........

Long ago.......... But the part about the guy leading me to the hotel and then entering my room to steal my TC's was the meat of my story....... Probably worked together with the desk clerk........

  13. Maybe 20-25 years ago I took a train to many stops in the south. Not sure i remember correctly but I think it was Hatyai or Songkla where i got off the train and was greeted by a local who offered to show me to a hotel......... I gave it a try and booked in to the hotel.... that time not carrying much cash but Traveler Checks which I stored in my carry-on bag left in the room.......... During my first several hours I got in my bag for a TC and thought some were missing........ the next day they all disappeared.............

Thank goodness I was able to get them replaced by American Express at a local bank......... I contacted Tourist Police who weren't much interested to help......

1 And are you aware whether this is in effect currently?  2 Or is this from Pre-2004?

3 Also were you given entry stamps upon arrival to US that allowed you to stay 9 months on a 'Tourist Visa?

4 And didn't your entry stamps 'Prohibit Employment' ?

1 yes, still in effect and that since many years. link to the IRS website:

    https://www.irs.gov/individuals/international-taxpayers/substantial-presence-test

    2. no

    3. no, we always got a 6-months stamp. but we rarely stayed 6 months at a stretch and spent in summer and winter a month or two in our house in Germany.

    4. only the usual stamp "admitted till..."

I am just guessing..... But the Federal Income Tax was filed for income other than working..... If so I can understand that.......

Also, in an earlier reply you sounded as if you lived in the US 9 months most years for 15 years......

    Quote your statement below....

"your impression is wrong. we lived 15 years (1989 - 2004) in the U.S. about 9 months a year (paying taxes). questions such as "who are you, what are you" and "why are you" came up only after the 9/11 terror attack."

Now you sound like (reply to question 2 above) you you didn't stay there so much......

Maybe you can see why we have questions........ Just trying to figure out how this applies to the modern times and what changes have came about.........

whether you can see it or not is irrelevant, we both had (still have) social security cards marked "not for employment". Florida has no state taxes but we paid a bundle of property tax for our home and of course federal income tax. for the record: even tourists are liable to pay income tax if they meet the "substantial presence test".

And are you aware whether this is in effect currently?  Or is this from Pre-2004?

Somewhere in the past I got an impression that you CANNOT stay in the US more than you stay out of the US, interpret that as you cannot visit the US more than 6 months in a 12 month period, which sounds likely the part that got you only 30 days. Once you start a new year (without exceeding 6 months total in a previous year) there likely will be a 6 month stamp...

your impression is wrong. we lived 15 years (1989 - 2004) in the U.S. about 9 months a year (paying taxes). questions such as "who are you, what are you" and "why are you" came up only after the 9/11 terror attack.

Sorry, But lets analyse this........ if you don't mind.........

you say...your impression is wrong. we lived 15 years (1989 - 2004) in the U.S. about 9 months a year

I say... Is this post pertinent to PRE-2004? or now?   You may very well have done that in 2004 but can you do it now?

You say:      we lived 15 years in the US

I question: is that proper use of a 'visitor visa' or 'tourist visa' or is that the abuse of it? But apparently you got away with it....... good on you......

    You said:   (paying taxes)

I question: did the party with the 10 year Tourist Visa 'pay taxes' even though prohibited to be employed during their visit?

You say: questions such as "who are you, what are you" and "why are you" came up only after the 9/11 terror attack.

I reply: a lot has changed since the dinosaurs roamed this earth and a lot has changed since 9/11 (and 2004) as far as US Visitor Visas (and a few other things) are concerned.....

You claim that  "your impression is wrong" (or MY impression is wrong) and you may be right..........

But you could be wrong and I am very sure that - that is my present impression, as I stated until I am convinced to believe something different.........

My impression could certainly be wrong, so I did not state it as a fact, only as a matter of trying to be helpful........... Just the same as your info from PRE-9/11 may be helpful......

I hope that the OP has been enlightened and helped by both or either of our posts..........

    Regards............. sawadeeken

  17. My 'older' ladyfriend was also given a 10 year US Visa......... She stayed 5 months on the 6 month stamp and left....... We are under the impression that she can re-enter and will get a 6 month entry each time.....

BUT....... Somewhere in the past I got an impression that you CANNOT stay in the US more than you stay out of the US, interpret that as you cannot visit the US more than 6 months in a 12 month period, which sounds likely the part that got you only 30 days. Once you start a new year (without exceeding 6 months total in a previous year) there likely will be a 6 month stamp....

You may find the answer on the Website or by calling.........

My ladyfriend (for 21 years) is now 57 year old and got the visa quite easily. She owns 4 homes and has 300,000 in the bank But at her age she wasn't asked much........ We went thru an agent in Bangkok who has pretty good luck.. and not very expensive and contribute a lot of credit to her for her guidance.........

Young women (Working age girls) rarely get approved because to many of them overstay and work illegally....

you said all hotels, now you say one?  Besides it smells great.

As an outsider I can tell you that a warning is posted in many hotels I have stayed in.... Just go along with it.................. If you enjoy Thailand......  I have found it in Malaysia as well.............

  19. May cost you the price of a beer............. I spend about a month in California then a month in Thailand.......... I'm back and forth almost monthly, My next trip is June 6 to BKK............

I have a home in Pattaya on the 'darkside' (east side of Sukhumvit)............

I live in California. If you want my address I can give you then your party could mail Your credit card to me and I hand carry it to Pattaya........

I have a lot of friends in Pattaya. I could give you some Phone numbers for them so you could talk to them to know I'm real.............

My phone in California is (909) 800-5458 if your friend here wants to call me.......... I'm flying out early on June 6............

So you are holding the funds in US dollars?

Look at the exchange rate page of the bank.

    http://www.bangkokbank.com/BangkokBank/WebServices/Rates/Pages/FX_Rates.aspx

The rates change about twice daily.

Use that Bangkok Bank chart and then add 30 satang to it if you have any money changers like we have in Pattaya........

Today that chart says 33.97 THB for a dollar. Today I changed 800 USD and got 34.27 THB....at a Yellow and Black colored Money Changer which is called 'T & T'...... I see about 20 or 30 of them on the sidewalks all over Pattaya.....

If you actually will change dollars to THB then it will be worth looking around and find a money changer other than banks........

If the money comes to Bangkok Bank by Money transfer you may get a much better exch rate..... Ask the bank......

And learn to use that Bangkok Bank chart...... The best rate for changing cash is the left hand column... There are 5 different columns and the fourth column going to the right side is called TT Rate and usually about 30 satang higher than changing cash..... that is likely how much the bank will give you for wire transfers on the day the transfer arrives.........

Additional Note...... I use a Credit card at Big C, Tesco, PTT Gas Stations and any Restraunts that take it. Because the credit cards will give me the TT (higher rate).... But CAUTION--- Many credit cards charge you a 3% Foreign Transaction Fee and I have several that don't

Ok. I was thinking that too. We will be there a week only. Thai passport are visa exempt for a month and French passport exempt for 90 days.
But i was wondering what would happen if:
He show his French passport on arrival in Japan without "exit visa" from Thailand.
He use his French passport when he enter Japan and then also when exit Japan but then when re-enter Thailand they might question why there are no entry/ exit stamp from Japan on his Thai passport...

Just think about what the 'Immigration' where you are going will be thinking........... never mind flashing the fact that you have other options................

Sorry to jump into this post.
I am going to Japan next week with my son for few days. He is 17 years old, was born in Thailand from Thai mother. He has 2 passports (French and Thai). Both of his passport a valid and blank (did not use since renew as he didn't go outside Thailand).
I assume he will use his Thai passport to exit Thailand and re-enter Thailand.
When enter Japan, should he use his Thai passport or French?
Both passport actually visa exempt for Japan.

Depends a lot on how long of a stay .......... If the stay is qualified for the Thai passport and he is arriving from Thailand........ then it seems beneficial to use the Thai passport.............
