  1. Did anybody consider the recent flood up Bangkok way? The worst flood in 60 years with all that trash built up and flushed out into the gulf. Taken awhile to get down here. Sounds about right to me.

That must be the case, because Koh Larn is usually considered a clean beach

  2. Papa David II along Soi Khao Talo opposite the Bank of Ayudhya has re-opened since one week now.

The new and attractive thing is, that the menu only contains THB 99 or priced less items.

The restaurant opens Mon - Sat at 9 a.m. and closes at 8 or 9 p.m.

The food is great although the portions are somewhat smaller.

Did enjoy 2 sausages, mashed potatoes and gravy (THB 99) and added a portion of baked beans (THB 25). So for THB 124 a nice meal.

I'd say, give it a try.

  3. I was looking for a night arriving on 23-2, 1 night, cozy package + wifi (1 device).

To be short.........they will charge me THB 1200 for a night in a hotel with a towel, toilettries, 24 hr wifi for 1 device, 12 hr A/C

You can see that they are a sister of Air Asia........low basic fares, but if you would like to have something "extra".

  4. "I dropped the 4 THB 100 notes before the lady onsite could grab them, so at least she had to work for it."

Those notes have the image of the King. Dropping them on the ground is offensive (possibly seen as lese majeste) and secondly, the lot cashier is paid to do her job, not put up with cnuts like you.

This might not be over yet.. Upon returning for R&R via Emirates Airway, and making a few acquaintances while inflight we agreed to share a Mini-Bus to Pattaya.. six of us now. While waiting in the lobby and securing a taxi-bus, we noticed we could not account for one person. Further inquiring with the Airport Police had us speaking with Immigration.. Four of us left and agreed to meet up later on Soi 6 Foxy or Roxy Bar. The one person that stayed behind waiting for his Pal relayed this story to us... Carl was detained as a result of Lese Majeste incident that had occurred 8 months earlier. He apparently wodded up a 1000baht bill when settling a dispute with a bar manager, after calling to police..After wodding the bill up apparently he dropped it into an empty glass. The BIB asked him to make a copy of his passport and was allowed to leave....

Upon arriving this time his name had appeared on some system that flagged him as a person of interest.. He was detained for a period of 16 days which had him back on the flight back to our duty station..

I then discovered that 98% of all Lese Majeste incidents are found guilty. Most of them are released on Christmas Day by a The King's Pardon. This person could be lucky or maybe just waiting for the hammer to fall and does not know it...

Unlucky for the OP is that Christmas this year is another 11 months I should say.

Haha........the "OP": that's me. I know that the Dutch are always a few steps ahead, maybe you can predict a bit more. Anyway, as far as I know I'm still at home I should say.

  5. "Vientiene on South Pattaya Road towards Sukhumwit." - used to love the old Vientiene on Second road - how does the one on South road compare - I didn't even know it was there.......do they still do Vietnamese, Issan and all the rest??

Still the same food but the setting is not as nice as the old one on Second Road.

Uhm......there is a Vientiane Restaurant on Soi Nueng Pleb Waan.

If the waiter understood me corect and I understood the waiter on my turn, it seems to be the same owner/concept. Thai-, sea- and "farang" food are excellent.

  6. warning to BIB.. never try and separate a Dutchman and his money....

OP we bitch and moan as a community when we see blatant disregard for the law here in LOS but as far as i can see you parked illegally.... was the lady who collected the money really a filthy a'hole or just some lady doing her job.

did it make you feel better swearing at her in Dutch and showing disrespect for her by throwing down the money...

Im not 100% sure Thailand is for you..... perhaps going back to Friesland for a while and try parking your bike illegally could be the answer....

Just grow up.....Im not sure if your post was supposed to spotlight you as someone lacking in mental capabilities but if it was, you succeeded beautifully

Monty, I'm glad to finally meet one of the übermensch creatures. Sadly enough you didn't read my posts completely.

  7. Thanks for letting me know what I exactly am.

    3 things:

    - If I actually complaint for no reason the young copper wouldn't have walked away, but put me behind bars

    - the red-white and yellow-white marking is situated near the entrance of Aksorn School.......in order to keep the entrance safe and clear during opening and closing of the school. On a Friday night at 10 p.m. the gate is closed and 2 cars were parked AT the entrance where of course are no markings; completely legitimate.

    - the option for getting a receipt for THB 100 extra was for me enough proof that I was dealing with a scam and NOT with a proper way of law-enforcement.

IF I am wrong I'll be the last to complain about law-enforcement and I'll be "happy" to pay my fine.

  8. Visited a friend in one of the buildings adjacent to the Thepprasit Nightmarket.

I parked my bike opposite the market on a free spot on the side of the road.

After an hour or so..........I found my bike gone, in fact........a lot of bikes has gone missing.

Sur place......2 coppers with big smiles explaining that I shouldn't have parked my bike along the red-white and yellow-white striping. Of course they were right, but who cares the striping along the side of the road, especially if there are no alternatives.

Anyway, I asked where my bike was and they answered: "Soi Korpai"..........yes, I know Soi Korpai, but where in Soi Korpai (my tone got slightly more agitated). "Soi Korpai, here is motorbike taxi can take you"

I answred: "I rather walk" and the reply was: "Long way mister..........."

My reply: "Is that your problem or my problem?" (now really agitated)

The younger one of the two coppers got as agitated as I was at that moment and his smile has changed into a nasty grin. Thai surrounders told me to: "Chaa yen yen".

Anyway, I phoned my friend who sent someone on a bike to take me to Soi Korpai, following a motorbike taxi-driver who has just picked up 2 victims. I was about to ask if it was allowed to have 2 passengers on a bike and if I was allowed to be a passenger without a helmet, but my driver sped away (smart action).

My bike was impounded at a remote area in a Soi of Soi 1 of Soi Korpai..............hundreds of bikes were parked waiting for a re-union with their owners for the "small" fee of THB 400 each. Of course it was possible to get a receipt.......but then I had to pay THB 500. I dropped the 4 THB 100 notes before the lady onsite could grab them, so at least she had to work for it.

I immediately drove back to the site along Thepprasit Road and got to the 2 coppers. The younger one immediately left, so I asked the older one: "Khun phood passaa Neteland, dai mai"........."Phood mai dai, khrub" So I put my friendliest face on and said: "Stelletje gore vieze teringlijders" and off I went. [bunch of dirty filthy a**-holes]

Conclusion: Do NOT park your bike or car there where they painted red-white or yellow-white marking along the board walk, not even if there are hundreds of other bikes parked. During my second (short) encounter I even saw them loading bikes which were parked at 'blank' spots and there is parking allowed. Just beware.

  9. The easiest thing is to apply for a non-B abroad, and because it is the easiest way, most immigration people will advise you to do that.

In a lot of cases and under certain circumstances it IS possible to convert permissions of stay from ED-status to B-status.

Please visit the nearest Immigration or even better, the Immigration HQ in Bangkok and yes, take someone Thai with you.

  10. Either you obtain a letter from a future employer stating that he will employ you or you get a letter from a lawyer stating that you need a non-B for business-investigation-purposes.

Attach resp company registration and the paperwork is ready, apart from your personal documents: passport, application form, bank-balance-statement (well, that's what I needed last time I applied for a non-B in Amsterdam - NL)

  11. My main reason for wanting a cc is the online purchases of air-tickets and hotel-bookings and having some amount of money as a back-up while travelling.

For the online purchases you could use for example the KBank Webcard......a debet card specially for cyber-use.

I used my regular KBank debet card in a parking-meter in Amsterdam (AmEx cc wouldn't work) and see...........it worked. THB 430 or Euro 10 deducted from my account :)

I tried to get a KBank or SCB cc, but I ended up with an AmEx corporate credit card.

  12. What those companies do is:

    - they guide you through the process of obtaining a visa or an extension of stay. They'll tell you what paperwork you need and prepare the application for a visa or extension. It's nothing more than a filter between you and immigration or an embassy/consulate. It's completely legal.

    - same as above, but now they will also take care of immigration visits; seems to me that this is on the edge and some tea-money is involved.

    - now they obtain a visa or arrange an extension without you having the correct paperwork or comply to the requirements. This is illegal.

In fact; I think that it is even impossible to obtain a visa in Thailand...........visa's are only issued by Thai Embassies and/or Thai Consulates abroad. So, if there is a company that states that they will take care of your visa.........where does it come from?

  13. Will this be built before or after the mono rail, just The Simpsons have already done the mono rail but not too sure about a tunnel episode yet.......

    Me a Cynic?????

Christ.....forgot about that lunatic idea.........I'm afraid that all projects will be initiated before the current Mayor will leave his seat; of course he will charge the budget with a few millions for consultancy fee.

  14. The problems with falangs and motorcycles is that many have never ridden motorcycles and when they come to Thailand they start doing it without really knowing what they are doing. Thailand is a miserable place to learn to start to ride a motorcycle. Like start off learning in a country where people actually obey traffic laws. The other problem is once they develop a little experience, they have too much confidence.

The maneuver he did was an extremely dangerous one. A more experienced rider would not have done it. A more experienced rider would also know not to do it on a little scooter that does not have enough power to pull off a passing maneuver like that. Even on my CBR1000RR I wouldn't do that.

I hate to criticize the dead, but he is gone (RIP) and the only benefit to it is that others learn from his mistakes.

The only reasonable and sensible post so far in this thread.
