  1. For a normal passport renewal, the "2-weeks" is an average time, it is not your follow-up appointment time. They will call or e-mail you when your passport is ready for pick-up and you don't need an appointment for it once it's ready, you just go in and pick it up during operating hours. You are supposed to have your old passport, however, which they cancel when you pick up your new one. In theory, you will need your old passport to enter the embassy. You should call them to resolve this.

    Wasn't the OP's passport missing?

  2. I'll feel like a bit of a goon if I get a new meter and end up paying more than I do now.

But now you're paying an amount not knowing whether it's correct or not.

Better get a new meter and pay what you actually use, even if it is more.

BTW, if the water company charges a fixed amount per month because the water meter isn't working, you can bet that the amount is too high......won't it?

  3. Booked BKK-CNX return during Songkran 2012.

THB 1780 incl. 15 kg luggage.

    Seems a bargain to me.

The only thing that's turns me off is the Insurance option.........several times they try to "sell" it to you and every time you really have to decline the offer.

There is always a seat, but you pay extra for a chosen seat and even more for a "hot"-seat (privilege boarding en more leg-room).

  4. I know how you feel. I'm a very light sleeper myself and every sound........mosquitoes, aircon, a closing door 4 houses further down the road will wake me up.

For years I'm using earplugs and it helps for direct sounds.

For vibrations........difficult if not impossible. You could try to put your bed onto rubber pads.

BTW the vibrations are usually caused by the exterior airco units. If the fan-blades are slightly out of balance you have your vibration.

  5. It does make me laugh that people are still on here talking about how you will not get a work permit, you have to work illegally and in rural areas with a poor salary.

I have been teaching in Thailand for 13 years. I have held a work permit for all of those years. I have worked in Bangkok with a work permit. I receive the same money as those with a degree.

The school that I now teach at is listed in the top 50 in Thailand. The last one was in the top 10. Does not sound rural to me.

I pay tax, get sick leave and holidays(paid). I am in the social security scheme. I also have a 12 month contract.

I am currently working towards a degree in Education. The reason for this is the TCT not the Labour office.

I have been told first hand by several different labour offices that the requirement is to show Education certificates and to have a letter of recommendation from a school and the local education office.

The answer to the original question is Yes.

Go in smart. Show them what you can do. Be polite and make yourself an asset to the school.

    Should be no problem.

    Good point.

The most perfect foreign teacher is the one:

    - with TEFL/TESOL or CELTA qualification

    - with a degree (pref a masters) in English teaching

    - in the age between 35-45

    - married and with a family

    - with 5-10 years experience

    - being a native speaker of English

in that case you will be hired blindly.

Being NOT native and/or NOT having experience and/or NOT having a degree and/or NOT having a TEFL/TESOL/CELTA qualification will make things more difficult but not impossible. It widely depends on your looks, knowledge, presentation and attitude.

  6. Thanks for that. What's the water situation there, no problem? (Don't laugh, I know nothing about Bangkok geography)

    For now......no water problem.

Using the #3 elevated tollway from Chonburi to Bang Na, take the exit "Lat Krabang" (the first exit after Suvarnabuhmi Airport).

Stay on the frontage road and follow the GREEN signs "Bang Na"

At some point you'll see: "IKEA & Mega Bang Na"

Coming from the West using #9 (Outer Ring Road) approaching the junction with #3 (Bang Na - Trat Highway): keep left and follow the green signs: "Bang Na"

You'll see the signs: "IKEA & Mega Bang Na"

  7. Is the dog ok?

    That's what I mean.........what about the dog?

THAT was the cause of the accident.............!!

In this area (Khao Talo and Khao Noi) I find every morning around 50-75 stray dogs running around, sleeping in the middle of the road, "attack" passants, etc.

It's about time that the city council is going to gather the dogs and get rid of them, but no.........Buddhism respects all living creatures including stray dogs...........huh.gif

High speed by both rider and the trucker was the cause of the accident.

Maybe I missed something.........."Mr. S’Jongers was driving at speed when he was forced to take evasive action to avoid a stray dog in the road. "

Maybe the truck driver caused the death of the Belgian, but the dog obviously caused the accident.

Since stray-dogs are an important part if this noble community.........blame City Hall! wacko.gif

  8. There's BonCafé along Naklua Road; indoor and outdoor (terrace).

There's Starbuck's in Royal Garden Plaza (I think 3rd floor). Terrace offers great view on Pattaya Bay.

    There's a Starbuck's in Avenue (central area).

Of course there are plenty coffee shops around, but those are the only ones with 'ambiance'.

  10. People get frustrated, it's natural.

Also some people would rather be in their home country but they choose to sacrifice that to be with the person they love.

That's why I'm here. Although I do have Thai friends and see where the Thai point of view is coming from sometimes I still get frustrated because I don't like being looked at as if my opinion doesn't matter because I'm not Thai.

My opinion of being here goes back and forth.

Sometimes I love it, sometimes I hate it. This seemed to be the case in other places I've lived too. I loved NYC but I hated working all the time for long hours.

I don't know why this is so hard for some people to understand and they need to start threads constantly stating "If you don't like it here, THEN LEAVE!" etc...

  11. Removed as I would probably get banned for my honest thoughts

If I am not mistaken, the victim was shot by the dealer. Either way, a man has been shot and we may never know the true story. Thus the call for respect.

Craig, the farang asked his GF to set up a deal in order to obtain drugs.

At this point no gunshot at all.

Only this knowledge doesn't deserve any respect.

Now he is shot, we have to show respect? Why?
