  1. A lot of you out there are forgetting to discuss the academics in BKK who oppose the current government and explain the reasons why. And... when you are a "Farang" living in this country for a long time, I believe there is a right to discuss politics. This is standard in many other countries. I understand very well about Suchinda and Thaksin and Chamlong.......... but I bet most of you guys out there on Thai Visa won't enter a conversation with me................................... it's a man's world..................................

  2. Guys, I mean girls and guys, people are people around the world, what you are all saying here could be said about any culture, any man any woman. Sweet smiling, brown bodies, cute muscles ....... give me a break. Most of you women out there are smart enough to understand that, that is not everything???????????????? And Kat dear "sense of fun" ... personally I find mindless kidding incredibly boring and a turn off. I sort of know what you mean but...... to me real love means that you learn to live and laugh together in your situation wherever that may be. Join in with the community as a couple and learn about each other's culture. My husband even kisses me now in the quiet streets!

  3. I know this topic was from a while ago but I just wanted to say that I get the same as most of you have mentioned during this season. The slightest wind or temperature change brings on furious post nasal dripping and I spend the rest of the next hour trying to cough the crap back out! When it's not dripping down the back of the throat it's blocked sinuses and awful pain! Same as you GX - antibiotics didn't help and the Doc just keeps wanting to give me more. My only relief is pseudoephedrine HCI - present in Tiffy actuall or available minus the para in the chemist. It stops the dripping. I try to only take one 60mg tab a day as it can cause side effects if you take a lot apparently. Really depressing though isn't it?

  4. Like Pip says there are sometimes REASONS why people overstay. I was genuinely ill last week when I was due to go to Immigration for a stamp (inside Thailand) so I called the police officers there and explained. When I arrived five days late one officer was a little strong but the big boss waved it completely. I am always extremely polite when I go there (wiithout crawling) and the big boss and I have had talks on world issues at times. Just an example of how some officers can be really nice and understand fellow humans. Seonai

  5. QUOTE(robsamui @ 2006-01-30 12:29:34)

Don't forget that the Horton murder follows close behind the rape of the 26 year-old British woman at the end of October inChaweng. This was widely reported in the UK too.

It doesn't add to the long-distance attraction of Samui as a holiday desination.

Yes Rob and the 12-year-old Swede and the 44-year-old Swede - raped as well.

  6. My brother (a very safe driver) has crashed his motorbike twice - both on Friday the 13th. The second accident he lost a leg and gilrfriend was paralized. He stays in on Friday 13th now. Never was superstitious before!!!!!!

  7. I normally get AP and Reuters news on a daily basis and can see the headlines at a glance. In the last two days I have not been able to actually access and of the stories mentioning Thailand or other Asian countries. Like the story about the protesters at Government house. I went to the Nation and got it. But can't seem to access it through my international news pages even thought the headlines are there. Am I doing something wrong or have they been blocked?

  8. Johpa I think it's obvious that some posters - plus me - think your comments are out of touch. Most fishermen do not take drugs and are lovely family orientated men. Take a look around you to see this.

and about the way western women dress etc and the way they often behave..... it is certainly NEVER an excuse for rape..... but it encourages these young Thai men in ways you cannot understand........ they have never seen their women like farangs except in bars where you can buy sex

  9. Hi Boo, as far as I remember it is absolutely not air con and there are many potential masseuse types lining up for the course. It's held right in the centre of the temple in a sort of 'caged off' area..... people can see in and you can see out. The teaching is supposed to be second to none in Thailand. An intense course learning about anatomy and physiology etc coupled with practical massage experience. Hard work I'd say as you have to be good to pass.

Give it a shot you'll be great. All the mates in Blighty will be lining up!!!!!!!

  10. guess you are right Kat..... I am reluctant to use the word teach but I understand what you mean. I have met some farang women with Thai men for example who are hel_l bent on teaching them their ways in a kind of love me or leave me format. Bit heavy ya? in my personal relationship we have worked things to an understanding .... as you would in any long term relationship. I am curious to hear from people in a rel with a Thai as to whether kissing is an issue. One farang mate of mine says his Thai gf never kisses.

  11. I know I am a bit late with this but I just want to say that this case has touched me as much as a lot of you out there. What I find particularly disturbing are comments from people like JOHPA about fishermen hanging out on Lamai Beach. Do you have a brain man? This is their patch. Fishermen you know. It was their beach before.

My husband was a fisherman until five years ago.

I am totally gutted about Katherine's death...... but don't have a go a fishermen please. It might well have been two drunk or stupid fishermen who committed this awful crime. But leave out generalisations.
