Hi, yes it still exists. A Thai male must reach his 21st birthday and then in April he goes to a station where he picks a bit of paper out of a bowl. I forget which way round it is but the papers are black and red. One says you go.... the other not go. Two years service is the norm. There are ways to avoid National Service - bribery!

have any of you ever listened to academics at Thammasat University?
-
what a lot of shit you men are talking. Take a look on the streets of Pattaya - the gay streets - I am a journalist and I was told I would be dead if I talked the truth about it............ young, young boys......... go see for yourselves.......

I want to know more about this. tell me the details and I'll put out the feelers. This is totally not on. I don't give a f### about the police. That is a serious crime.

completely crazy. I would go totally mental if it was my son

why don't you answer Kringle? Do you have a source from this story? If something like this happened to my son I would KILL everyone involved.

" Unregistered Pre-paid Mobiles To Be Disconnected, Today In Three Southern Provinces"
See what I mean???????
-
I don't understand this whole thing sorry. Some posters seem to be saying it's only the southern Thai provinces that need to register but others sound like it's nationwide:
"Minister of Information and Communication Technology Sora-at Klinpratoom (สรอรรถ กลิ่นประทุม ) reiterated that all signals from prepaid mobile phones will be discontinued if they are not registered by Novermber the 15th 2005."
When I first bought my SIM card 4 years ago and signed the papers.... does that mean I am registered????????
Help????

Cheers Qual,
Well it's a traditional old Thai house with multiple entry points ie the floor which has slats big enough to poke you finger through! But yes matbe I'll ask around for a snake expert! On this island we have a predominant cobra population as far as snakes are concerned. King cobras I do believe! Great!

Hey guys and gals,
I have rats at the moment and they tend to head for the area in my kitchen where I keep dried food like spagattii, nodles etc. Anyway today I saw a snake there in the same place coiling its way up the metal stand thing, when I passed it slowly sidled down but I didn't wait to see where it went. Hubby, who didn;t see it says it may have been a cobra. It was darish brown with dark green bits!! About a metre long.
We came home and bashed around with a brush to no avail. Hubby says it might take up residence in the house.
Any thoughts on this? Silly answers tomoorow okay!!!!!

Yes I agree Brit, maybe this is not the whole story. If a marriage was in trouble already... I guess it would be easier to make a move during a move. If you see what I mean. Maybe there were other issues, I suspect so. Why else would she give up 12 years of happiness?

OasisX, don't let the cynics put you off. Come to the Phuket area as someone else suggested and check it out. Plenty sea view locations, beach front apartments and I am sure the broadband thing is way on the way to being sorted. I live on a very small island and we just got ADSL and fibre optic connections as well as WIFI. S'cuse my lack of techno knowledge but we have them!!!!!
Cheers mate, say hello to London from me,

I am quite familiar with half Thai kids moving to US or Europe but to discuss this we'd need more info. Is it something that is personal to you Ray23? Do you know all the circumstances? I mean do you even know this chap who has lost his wife and child?
Please advise.

Just to tell all you negs out there that the Todd concert on the island was a fantastic success with an attendance of over 350 people. Everyone loved him and his band and I spent some personal time with Todd.... what a wonderful guy. Wish there were more men like him out there on this planet.
Sorry for swearing before but I can't stand negative crap. You show me what you have done for Thai youth and maybe I'll listen. I'm actually quite a neutral person but that made me mad!

I suggest you ask the restauranters in the Karon area, many Scandinavian places there.

Hi Lopburi,
I mean we have done the religios ceremony but I still have to go up to BKK to get the embassy and MFA papers before I can register the marriage.
Therefore, I was wondering if IMM would give me an extra month to do that?
What you think?

I'll do it! If... there's also a new law brought in that my Thai husband has to sign a document that he will provide (financially and otherwise) for me and keep me in the style to which I am accustomed for the rest of my life.
And that, that paper be enforced by law.
Traditions and all that you know.

Hi,
Right now I have a Non Imm 'O' expiring on Dec 5. I am in the process of finalising my marriage papers to a Thai national (male). Does anyone know if I can get an extention for a month just while I sort my papers out please?
Thanks in advance,

Yes Glauka,
I did not really mean the thread was silly... I just meant that a lot of us understand this stuff already. Maybe the girl (Anna) who posted first is very young.
