Has anyone noticed how much coffee has increased in price at 7-11 over the past 6 months.
A thai brand 45g pack of freeze dried coffee was 44 baht just 4 months ago, the same packet is now 58 baht. That's a wopping 32% increase ..... and many other items are similar.
Is 7-11 pricing regulated ?
who sets the price increase on items .... is it CP ? the factory ? or the farmer ?
have you noticed a sharp increase in stuff you buy ? I realize Makro & Tesco and others have increased slightly, which is indicative of inflation, but I'm wondering why some prices have really escalated.
Have you not noticed that there is a major war on in the Ukraine which pushes up fuel and fertilizer, eggs hitting 14 dollars per dozen in NZ and fertilizer doubling in price pushing up vegetables globally, it's not just Thailand but is world wide. have a look at Macro and market village imported foods they are dearer than in the country they came from, not counting that the Thai govt is Taxing them to death as comfort foods as well.
The situation in NZ is so bad for pensioners that they are selling their homes , taking out reverse mortgages and moving into rest home villages as they can not afford food and petrol, rates, power and internet charges.

Borrowing rates to fall to one %, house mortgages are about 5.5% does this mean they will drop to 4.5% or what borrowing are they talking about.
And yes the currency would normally devalue but this probably wont or never happens in Thailand as they want to milk incoming tourists.
And keep import costs down.

Had to wait until paragraph 2 to get the 'this must be the visa free system' nonsense.
If anyone thinks that this behaviour is connected to the length of stay allowed, then let's only let people enter the country for 3 hours in the afternoon or from midnight until 11am.
You cannot blame the visa for idiots flocking to a Phuket and Pattaya

A guy from my country lived here with his thaiwife for years He decided to devorce her and in my country its easy because we can divorce in the government website.Log in with bank ID and sign electronic. His wife went back to Thailand and they agreed to meet there to get their marriage annulled in Thailand too. They agreed to meet in Pattaya.2 days after he arrived Pattaya and disappear and after that nobody found him again. His exwife was takes in to police for questning but they didn't find any proof that she was involved.Im sure she knows where his body is after he get killed.
Many deaths in this country are due to lost face, you can get attacked just by driving your car and peeve off a Thai who wants to cut in front of you, then rams you if you don't comply, lost face is probably the biggest caused of violence from Thai people

It's been more than 30 days since the earthquake, so it seems very optimistic to call it a rescue effort. Perhaps some families are still holding out hope. Thailand could use a miracle right about now 🙏🙏🙏

I believe the refused outside help, very stupid and it will be a miracle if they find any one alive now, the pile looks the same , not much different. It's going to take some time to clear that lot.

Sad state of affairs , " must be true as the mail and s*n said so " ... Free press eh .
Maybe pensioners overseas should petition the govt, because they have got plenty for Zelensky to blow up in smoke. And its your money!!!

Picture of Christopher Lee courtesy of the iPaper
A British expat's sunny retirement in Thailand has turned stormy as his UK state pension remains frozen, leaving him counting every baht. Christopher Lee traded Wrexham for Thailand in 2010, drawn by the warm climate and relaxed lifestyle. But, his pension is stuck at its original rate, unlike UK counterparts who've seen increases of up to 80%.
At 70, the former banker relies on a weekly £137 (6,150 baht) after a SERPS top-up, opposed to the current UK basic pension of £176.45 (7,880 baht). In Thailand, one of many countries on the UK’s 'frozen pensions' list, Lee and others see their pensions diminish amidst rising costs.
Over 450,000 Brits in countries like Thailand, Australia, Canada, and New Zealand share Lee's plight, battling constant inflation. “The extra cash would be most useful,” Lee voiced, pressing for a policy reversal as financial strains increase. Adding to his woes is a modest private pension that fails to deliver the retirement he envisioned.
Groups of British pensioners in Thailand are pushing back, urging government reform as pensioners face poverty—a plight highlighted in The Thaiger's coverage of Brits struggling in Pattaya and Chiang Mai. The UK government, however, maintains that adjusting overseas pensions would cost nearly £1 billion annually.
The Department for Work and Pensions reported it would take an estimated £940 million to unfreeze pensions in 2024-25. While officials insist information is clear on retirement financial impacts, Lee and others find this unsatisfactory. "We've paid in, so we deserve annual increases," he argued.
For expats like Lee, the reality is stark—a life of rising prices and tightened budgets, far removed from the warm retirement once imagined under the Thai sun.

So, you can´t call your bank, and check what phone number is connected, or maybe you know that. Most people do. Same do you know if the phone number is in your name? If not, can you call the phone company and check, or log in to app and see? If you know all is okay, you don´t have to do anything. They check, and if ok you will pass.
My sim is in my wifes name, she does all the internet banking on her phone, no need for me to worry, I can transfer by internet from NZ to her and she give to me, when I asked BK bank to set up internet banking for me they were not interested, I think this latest move may also have something to do with tax

The six A380s owned by Thai Air have been scrapped.
Yes, the service provided on the double deckers by the likes of Qatar and Emirates is very impressive. Thailand doesn't have the workforce, English skills or culture needed for that same level of customer service. Nor the passenger demand or business efficiency.
Thai Airways is now simply a regional flag carrier, a disgraced one at that, with no ability or aspirations to be an international transit airline like the Middle Eastern carriers can do.
I spoke to a friend of mine who flies 747's regularly around the globe ,he said many hostess's on these airlines are Thai.
